I don’t remember too much around the time I went here due to my mental health crisis, but I will never forget how I was treated in a place intended to help the mentally ill in a time of crisis. I am a Bipolar I who lost access to my medication a year ago. I went to the ER when I was in crisis and was instructed to go to PES asap and get on medication. My boyfriend had to speak for me due to me being in active crisis. I have joint issues in both of my knees and was barely able to move around the facility due to me losing my knee braces while I was in crisis (bipolar I mania makes you very scatterbrained). The way I was treated by staff intended to help the mentally ill launched me into a full blown panic attack. They were hyperfixated on my knee issues and started trying to imply my partner was abusive. Not at all the case, he was trying to help me communicate when I was too ill to. The ER was called since the treatment I received launched me into a full blown panic attack. PES could have saved me and is set up to save people from psych ward stays with undertrained technicians who are often incredibly abusive. No person in active crisis should experience the treatment I experienced. If you mentally equipped to assist the mentally ill, which the young man around my age dealing with me obviously wasn’t, don’t work in a mental health facility. It’s very obvious the staff here have absolutely no training on crisis management, had they have possibly had that (and mobility aids, chronic pain often aggravates people with mental illness and that seems like a thing any medical facility should have), I could have been assisted. Instead, they called EMS who escorted us out the building as if I was some sort of criminal. The most heartbreaking thing they said to my partner is ‘you did everything right, these places just don’t really care about people in crisis’. They obviously thought I was some drugged out homeless woman. I’m a software consultant with an apartment and all I needed was to get back on my meds, hence going there. Because of the lack of care from an ‘emergency services’ facility, I was put in an inpatient facility where I was physically and mentally abused for days. PES was my final hope and they failed me. You guys aren’t an emergency service, you actively failed me while I was in crisis. Because of my experience and the stigma I faced, I’ve actually been inspired to try to get people together to open a facility that ACTUALLY cares about people in crisis. PES should not be a person like me’s final hope. To the staff at this facility: if you’re going to treat mentally ill people so badly they’re having panic attacks because they’re scared of you, don’t work for a psychiatric emergency service. You harmed the wrong bipolar young woman, and I promise you that I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure a place like this isn’t any young woman’s final hope before being abused senselessly at an inpatient facility. None of the employees or care staff I saw that day should be handling people in psychiatric facilities. The disgust I have for this facility has inspired me to contribute to the change Austin desperately needs for the mentally ill.

My experience here as a whole was pretty good. The overwhelming majority of the staff are really amazing people and helped me a lot; special shout outs to Alex, Laurel, and John. Mindful movement and Creative group are very fun, and the daily process group is much needed. However, Dr. Rana essentially ruined it for me. She’s actually a pretty good psychiatrist, but only when she’s actually being a psychiatrist, which I’d say was only 10% of the time. For the rest of it she was a complete bully. She basically nurtured my eating disorder. All of my sessions were so distressing. She’d tell me week after week that I was going to land myself back in residential, which was a really traumatic experience for me. She planted that same idea into my dad’s head, telling my parents that I’d respond best to the “stick instead of the carrot” (I did not). I felt so unsafe, mistreated, and belittled under her care. She assumed that all my accomplishments in res were due to insurance or my parents interventions and told me that “I didn’t like her sessions because she told me the truth” — in reality all she did was trigger me. I wish I could say CFD was helpful, because overall it really was great, but Dr. Rana overshadows it all.

I have been coming to child and family center for my mental health for years. Even back to when they were at the old Baylor building. Many of people have filled those desk over the years. I’ve seen a lot of faces and all have been made pleasant! I wanna take a moment to recognize Miss Thersea at the front desk. Even on my worst days she stilll goes out of her way to put try and make me smile. She is always informative and has always smiled herself even with dealing with thousands of patients daily. I truly owe my well being to the staff and doctors at family guidence center in waxahachie. With out them I would not be able to live a normal life. I rely heavily on my mental health meds and for the staff to make it feel like it were there own family speaks volumes in my book. Great job everyone at child and family! Also wanna give a big shout out to Genoa pharmacy for always handing all things medicine for me! Y’all are truly remarkable people and I’m so greatful.

Best ER experience, by far, that we have ever had. Services were quick, everyone was super nice. They kept us informed of what was going on and explained everything very well and made sure we understood everything. The doctor himself, even call the next day and followed up and talked us thru some more stuff. Cannot recommend this place highly enough, if I could give it 6 stars I would. In today's world of crappy customer service and get you in, paid, and out of the door as quickly as possible, this place is unlike all the others and will be our go to for future needs.

The front desk was friendly and the case worker was friendly and helpful. However, I had my appointment with the psychiatrist Dr. Ahmed he told me that I needed to go get a psychological evaluation before he could treat me. Mind you, this doctor is a psychiatrist, board certified to diagnose mental health disorders. I asked him if he could evaluate me and he said no. I left my appointment feeling highly discouraged, confused and saddened.

My nephew is currently in that place, and from what he says, they are mistreating him. They have him tied up like an animal and locked in a dirty, smelly room. They injected him against his will and didn't give him food. I would like you to please investigate this because instead of helping him, they are harming him. Our family is going through this situation because of human cruelty, and the problem he has is spiritual. If they are treating him this way, instead of helping him, they will harm him. We need to be more compassionate and treat the people who are interned there with love and respect. Social status and race don't matter, because life takes many turns. Today we are healthy and well, but tomorrow we dont't know if we will be in the same situation. Because of the envy and malice of some people, because before all this, my nephew was happy and doing well.

They staff is nice..however.. they never tell you the correct time of the appointments, they are always behind, it gets a bit frustrating when you have to rush to work. Update: it took and hour and a half for lab results. I had explained I need to leave for work. The doctor got upset with ME for rushing her when I simply said I rather just leave. I had originally gone to check for something and she immediately went to: you need a physiologist. "I have one." A counselor "I have one." She then proceedes to have her staff call me for a physiologist referral. I'm sorry but I felt very unheard and very dismissed. I won't be coming back soon.

My therapist is amazing! This is for the Ethos Wellness at the Lovett Center. I’ve been with her for over a year. However, I’ve been calling every week since January 2025 for a super bill to submit to my insurance and it’s April 2025 with no avail. It’s getting to the point where they are straight up lying to me saying they’ll send it the next day each time I call. I spoke with Angela at the front desk numerous times and she’s been telling me they are backed up and she will get mine immediately but nothing. I guess the next step will be to show up at the office and just wait it out. It’s so disheartening knowing that their services are to support but here I am. If you are looking to get a super bill for your services, go elsewhere. Thankfully, my therapist has been such a blessing.

My mother was directed here by the 24/7 hotline and we were assured she would be able to get help with just her ID and insurance. Show up and right off the bat, they try telling me she can’t get treatment because her primary residence is not Texas. Once they get past that, they start asking for utility bills, her medication, and proof of income across the waiting room, which we do not currently have on-hand.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in Texas?
When comparing providers in Texas, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in Texas?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in Texas?
Yes. Mental Health US includes Texas providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all Texas providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
