I wanted to share my recent experience with Barbara from the insurance and billing department. Unfortunately, I found our communication challenging. Her approach came across as unkind and abrupt, and I felt that my concerns regarding my health insurance and billing were not effectively addressed.

Would love to give them 5 stars, but I called to be a new patient 4 weeks ago, and they never called back. Do these businesses know how hard it is to make the call in the first place??

My father is a resident at NMBHI Meadows Nursing Facility! He has been there since April 2023. I am so extremely grateful for the staff at this facility! They are responsive, caring, professional and kind! My dad has been happy with the staff. My family was no longer able to provide 24 hour care for my father. When we toured the facility, we were very impressed. After nine months, we are even more impressed. The staff love my father. He knows he is loved!! We would not have entrusted his care to anyone else!

Great Therapist and Counseling!!! I've been going here for years ((7years)) The therapists that have been assigned to me have been very understanding, and considerate. The only downside I know of, is if you're not pre-scheduled you must reschedule on Thursdays only. Aside from that, I absolutely love this place. I feel comfortable switching therapists at any time, I know the doctors that provide my medicine; listen to me and allow me to speak freely on how I would like my medicine to be. Aside from the long waitlist, I absolutely recommend this place to anyone who needs to go into therapy

If i could less than one start i would. treatment started out rocky. staff thought i was a girl even though i dress and look like a man. I have a high pitched voice but i obviously a man... then i get the the detox. staff embarrasses me by yelling at me in front of everyone if im even old enough to smoke.. Im 32 and dont need to be treated like a child. not all the staff were terrible but still the place was a disaster. I checked out early and as soon as they werent getting my money they started treating my like the addict i am. I wasnt even allowed to wait in the lobby for a ride i was forced to wait outside. They are Rude and Impertinent, take your loved one somewhere else. They will have a better chance at recovery!!!!

Honestly a waste of time and energy wish I could give zero stars for how unaccompanied they are. They do not treat you like a human and they make you feel guilty for stating you don’t have an addiction when you don’t and basically do what they can to make you seem like a bad person . Was court ordered to go to classes while I was also seeing a therapist outside of this and they make you seem like you have an insane drug habit. It’s ver dehumanizing especially when I didn’t have a history for drug usage. They always talk about you relapsing and they are very condescending and take advantage of the fact they have power over you. Will not work with your schedule and will blame you for not being able to consistently take off work for something they chose to “diagnose” you with. I hope they can take a look at why they are really doing this. Because it’s not for the betterment of the client. It’s all to feed their egos.

Worst excuse for pro. Med. practice. An absolute joke lady’s at the front are all so anxious to leave all 4or 5 of them were so busy staring at the clock they couldn’t even verbally answer why, my brother who was sent from the hospital with a referral from HMS main office as well with intensive lung failure and internal bleeding ulcers, couldn’t not see the doc. Because we were past there strict ten min late policy. Yes my brother can’t see his doc. And has to go spend god knows how many hours in the ER before he can go see the same doc that’s going to tell him we can’t do much that’s why we sent ya to tranquil skys, and yes we did not make it in time he can not breathe he was traumatized as were we all cause he just received news he is near death so you might think they being health CARE providers would have maybe a bit of understanding being as we were10 min and 30 sec. Late. 30 freakin seconds and they sent him packing with not even a word just shaking their heads no at us. I apologize the big giant beautiful girl sitting at the window uttered “we have a strict late policy. Mind you my mother is a frequent patient there and she is usually 30 min late do to rides taking longer to get her then expected. I hope people will take time to read this and I hope all you wonderful girls at the front desk of tranq skies are greatful you have such a great work relationship with the docs behind your walls that you can make them look like monsters that care nothing for there patients and still have your positions.

I spent 4 years trying to get help for 2 autoimmune conditions I have that cause me chronic pain, inability to eat most food, and an overall terrible quality of life. After seeing 80+ doctors, and getting no help, I have become quite depressed. I went here after a particularly bad flare-up. They did nothing for my pain or somatic symptoms. They treated me as though I cannot make any good decisions. They took away my freedom. They ignored my pleas to release me when they couldn't get the medicine I require / couldn't accommodate the diet I require to prevent symptoms from getting more severe. They worsened the condition I was here for. They eventually discharged me after making me sicker with a referral to a psychiatrist, as though all my issues are mental -- as if taking some happy pills is going to somehow make my chronic pain and constant autoimmune issues go away. The way I was treated is inhuman and evil.

I had came in to establish care. John Scott was the doctor, and his whole bedside manner was very unprofessional. The comments he made were very offensive nether less to say. He mocked me when I asked questions on certain topics and even laughed at me when I brought up personal concerns. I switched to another provider but would not recommend him.

The staff and counselors are amazing there not just textbook counselors they actually know what its like to live that life and how to turn your life around. They've inspired me so much that I've chosen to be a substance abuse counselor myself and to try and give the help back that was given to me. I would highly recommend checking them out if you want recovery or help turning your life around. Thanks Cottonwood

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in New Mexico?
When comparing providers in New Mexico, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in New Mexico?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in New Mexico?
Yes. Mental Health US includes New Mexico providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all New Mexico providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
