Don't get me wrong, I love my therapist at Astor. But trying to get in contact with someone who isn't my therapist is aggravating. The front desk and billing people blow up my phone and then whenever I call them back, they don't answer. Kinda upsetting.

This place is a perfect example of how Mental health/suicidal ideations ARE NOT taken seriously! My 26 yr old son has been going to this place for atleast 5 years or more and he keeps getting worse! His depression and Mental state is not improving at all!! He calls or texts me all the time threatening to end his life (this is hard for me because I live over 4 hours away) I’ve called them

Horrible. I went there assuming it was a walk in Psych hospital, as there is no indication of otherwise anywhere I looked online. Turns out, it's a hospital for the criminally insane and people who are forced to be there by the courts. There where a couple of very kind people who called EMS for me and waited with me to make sure I wasn't alone, but I was waiting for over 2 hours and EMS never showed up. I ended up just taking a bus back to where I came from. Good people, just horrible that it's not mentioned anywhere about what type of psych hospital it is. Plus there's too many any mosquitoes.

They don't call you back. And they WILL reject you from treatment just because you have autism. As someone who's been here for years, you will NEVER have a stable therapist and your treatment will never feel progressive. Stay away!

many staff are at the very least unprofessional and clearly lack proper training and crisis management skills. i was promised a survey at the end of my stay to express my likes and dislikes with my experience, and was not granted this even upon request. in my opinion, this is a very unsafe environment that does not perpetuate healing or encourage growth. even staff that do their best with limited resources can only do so much given the frankly grim state of this facility. like most facilities similar to this one they get you in and out relatively quickly, and in my case, i feel i received the BAREST amount of “care” (1 on 1 therapy, groups, etc.) to classify as progress before being released. i am honestly shocked treatment like this is so standardized.

My son's counselor is fantastic and his doctor is great. My only complaint is their phone system. If you use their first name, how are you supposed to find them by last name? Now I understand completely why people would come in to ask to speak with the doctors or counselors. I tried to call three different times to get ahold of his counselor and failed. What's even worse she gave me her personal phone number and I tried calling and texting but didn't get a reply. And the parking lot is very tiny, you have to park on the side streets.

This is the worst place parole can advise you to go and take care of a mandated program. They squeeze the last drop out of your insurance with the promise of completing the programs which never seem to end. According to them “ it’s different in the out side “ for mandated programs. They only have apprentice fresh out of college teens that don’t really know or have the experience needed to make the program quick and successful. 1star for the effort.

They are horrible. They lie. They don't do their jobs. They don't communicate. They say to your face one thing and then don't communicate to their staff. They said they would work on charts with us and then I was never worst of any other conversation with my son. They cancelled one and because my choice mail wasn't working we drove it there and biting. Then I had to cancel one. Then the therapist cancelled one and then when like she didn't. Didn't tell the front desk. But she told me to my face that she was cancelling that day. Then I called the other day we were stuck. Grandma could bring. Front desk said it was okay but leave a message. I left a message. She yelled at them according to them no grandparents. Which is bogus. Now I get a letter saying my son's car is terminated?? I'm glad they care. I'm glad they care about how much of a hard travel it is for us. I'm glad they care about my son's well being. To be honest the building smells. They aren't friendly. Don't even get me started on the need management. And how she wanted to push an odd diagnosis on a hurt 6 year old boy who she doesn't even know any didn't test his file and didn't even meet. I'm so freaking done. Do not go here!

I was being seen for a few years with no problem until the psych provider abruptly stopped prescribing the medications I was on. Then I switched to another provider through c&fs which has canceled 6 out of the 8 appointments I have had scheduled. And if you want to talk with a supervisor, they won't call you back. I am now trying to find another provider because they have been very unreliable

3/2026 Don't waste your time going here. Worst place ever! Emails and requests are ignored. So unprofessional from the ceo to Dr. C I see why they work in organizations as this. No one else would definitely hire them. And, stay away from Catherine McLaughlin she is a liar, very untrustworthy, And inexperienced. In no way will you be supported. She told me my information was confidential. Unfortunately, my info was not. And, till this day I have not been able to get a copy of MY records. This organization does not follow their own rules. Instead of help, this itch has caused me nothing but problems. I hope she loses her job! In no way should she be a social worker. She has no clue.

My family had a deeply disturbing experience at Interfaith Medical Center, involving what I consider elderly neglect. During first shift, my elderly grandmother hurt herself while under the hospital’s care, and what occurred was unacceptable. She had undergone foot surgery the prior Friday and was clearly identified as a fall-risk patient. Despite this, she was not properly assisted. While staff were handling her, her injured foot was dropped, causing significant pain. She was then left without adequate assistance, and in attempting to get back into bed on her own, she further injured herself. Following this incident, staff were slow to respond, communication was poor, and the situation was not handled with the urgency or attentiveness an elderly, post-surgical patient in pain deserves. My grandmother was in visible pain throughout the morning, and our family was left waiting all afternoon for answers, with little to no updates, while she remained vulnerable and distressed. Watching staff drag their feet while an elderly, fall-risk patient needed care, monitoring, and accountability was incredibly frustrating and painful for our family. No family should have to chase information or worry about their loved one’s safety in a hospital setting—especially when clear fall-risk precautions should have been in place. Hospitals are supposed to protect and advocate for their most vulnerable patients. Unfortunately, that did not happen here. I strongly urge leadership to review staff conduct, fall-risk protocols, response times, and communication, particularly when caring for elderly and post-surgical patients.

I want to share my experience so others can make an informed decision. I contacted this clinic during a suicidal crisis and was told I could receive support. Due to my father passing I missed one appointment. Instead of rescheduling or checking on my safety, I received a call telling me I was being dropped as a client due to the missed appointment. Clients seeking therapy are human beings dealing with real-life situations, illness, and mental health crises. In my case, the lack of flexibility and compassion during a very vulnerable time was extremely disappointing and concerning. If you are considering services here, I strongly recommend asking about their attendance and discharge policies ahead of time, especially if you are seeking care during a mental health crisis.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in New York?
When comparing providers in New York, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in New York?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in New York?
Yes. Mental Health US includes New York providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all New York providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
