Just called to ask a question, whoever answered the phone was so rude. She was unkind and simply transferred me. Sometimes it's not what you say but how you say it. It is difficult for people to ask for help--try to remember that the next time you answer the phone.

Wasted my time doing a phone intake to only tell me after the fact, that they are refusing to see me because I use marijuana occasionally to help with my insomnia. Apparently anyone who uses any kind of substance is not welcome as a new patient in this facility. Because sleep deprivation is something people should deal with if they want help with their mental health. They then referred me to a place that treats people for substance abuse when I was looking to have my ADHD managed. I shouldn't be surprised though, because this was the place I went to in my early 20s and they refused to even entertain the idea that I had ADHD. Instead they diagnosed me as bipolar type 5 and put me on mood stabilizers that did nothing, because I don't have any type of bipolar disorder. I have ADHD, depression, anxiety, and PTSD and was refused treatment for using a low dose of a completely legal substance to help me sleep on the nights that my insomnia is unmanageable.

I’m writing this review based on my experience with this practice as both a parent and a patient. When my 12-year-old daughter was under the care of the psychiatrist here, appointments were always scheduled according to the doctor’s convenience, not the patient’s. The time frame repeatedly did not work for our family, and when I asked if it could be adjusted, I was consistently told that the doctor was “too busy.” While I understand that professionals have demanding schedules, it was disappointing to feel that a young patient’s needs were not given much consideration. In addition, I was also a patient of this practice. I had believed my psychiatrist was someone who genuinely cared about her patients’ well-being. However, during a very difficult time when I experienced a severe reaction that was later determined to be a medication side effect, I did not feel supported. I was sent to the hospital in crisis, where I was admitted, and it was only there that the issue with the medication was recognized. Overall, I did not feel the level of support, attention, or responsiveness that patients—especially a child—deserve. I hope this feedback encourages improvements in communication, scheduling flexibility, and patient support.

I would give this place -5 stars if I could. I was in the womens overnight shelter, i was there for almost three months, the staff showed favoritism and were very unprofessional. They treat people like children and don't care if you have anything going on outside of being there. If you weren't gossiping or sharing your life story they didn't care to help they wanted to see people down. My daughter was sick in the hospital with rhinoenterovirus for a week and her dad had to work so I had to stay with her. They packed up my belongings by day 3 and gave up my bed, and told me they didn't care that she was in the hospital that has nothing to do with them and that's not their problem but wrote that my discharge was because of me causing trouble. They discharged me so quick as if it gave them a thrill, didnt care about the fact that I had nowhere to go. I kept to myself, I did my chore everyday, and fought my mental and dignity like hell everyday to sit around people that only see you as a quick dollar from welfare. My experience there was horrible. They only help the elderly or help people fake having a disability to get housing. Would not recommend at all.

If you care about getting better this is not the place. They have made me feel like I'm on a rollercoaster basically ruin my chances of healing. I've been going their on and off since the 90's and it's 2024 and now they took my therapist that actually cared about his patients and continued to make you choose another therapist or even psychiatrist with no reason. You can never get adjusted to who they give you because they can be taking away without notice. This leaves you to have to continue to restart the process getting to know this new person again and again. I'm emotional wreck dealing with not having the only good therapist left there. These people don't care about you or your mental health. I don't feel I can trust this profession and haven't found a replacement since I received a call saying I will no longer see my therapist. I will NEVER go back to this place. They never read your file before your appointment. I had to keep reminding them you gave me that medicine it made me sick or not feel right. Then next appointment try again. If you care about yourself or your family member go elsewhere. 🤕😷😭😭😭😭😭

I’ve been here for over a month and am already feeling so much better and more stable. I am learning ALOT about skills and emotional regulation. The care I’ve been receiving has been top notch and I actually left a different php program to come here. I was able to get full days extended as well which really helped provide structure. Dr. Batra has been on point and very helpful with managing medications and the therapists and clinical interns there are all well trained and attentive. They also have a trained nurse on staff if you need extra support with medication concerns between doctors visits. They offer various tracks and different types of therapy groups including art therapy and yoga. I have nothing but good things to say and this place has been instrumental in my recovery. Thank you Princeton house!

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in New Jersey?
When comparing providers in New Jersey, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in New Jersey?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in New Jersey?
Yes. Mental Health US includes New Jersey providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all New Jersey providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
