Today, Region Ten Crisis Unit was the only one to help me. They picked me up and brought me in to see a nurse and doctor. Then, set me up for more help next week! Really a wonderful experience during a crisis for me. It’s hard to be positive when abuse is happening, but today Region Ten spent hours deescalating and managing my crisis issues well. It’s hard to say: I was raped and in the UVA care unit, I was assaulted by 3 long relationship partners and needed shelter for emergency and care for the physical abuse. Now, my mental health is in crisis after a 7-month roommate situation turned violent. All this past trauma builds up and comes up when new abuse. I was able to get out all the bad, plan for counseling for future mental and physical care. Thank you! Your team even stayed late, and it’s nice to know others in crisis can come to you.

This place aids in human trafficking done by local social services. They will lie in court and they mishandle records and private information. The building is infested with bugs and is extremely filthy, probably a big reason alot of therapy is done "in home". The therapists are very rude and handle clients with disabilities with disrespect and roughly. Avoid avoid avoid, this place should be shut down. Multiple reports and violations.

Horrible experience in this facility. I was here around maybe 2 months ago? The 'doctor' I had(Dr. Dillion) did NOT at all listen to what I had to say. I wasn't allowed downstairs the majority of this 'visit' because I didn't see the doctor. I did quite like my therapist there, and a few staff members, but the majority of the workers there clearly do not care about the kids there and just want their paycheck. It all seemed very unprofessional in my opinion.

I’m rating one star over the front desk the only woman at the front desk was nice was Ellen that was very nice and understanding but, when it came to other people. They made my anxiety much worse then what it was. It caused me to stop going and to stop trying to get help because, some of them were so rude they cause me to have a panic attack in the office. My councilor was great but, the front desk just made me have more anxiety and more depression just dealing with that alone. I really hope someone starts to monitor the way they talk to people.

Do not go here voluntarily. I was forced to come here because of a manic episode and was stuck with older patients at 19 years old. I was asked out by a 35 year old man, threatened to be lynched by one of the patients, and told by a patient that she would beat the living s out of me. The nurses did nothing but stand there and laugh. It is not a place to get treatment because I received no group therapy or treatment at all. The disrespect from the staff members was unnecessary at least and extremely rude at most. Patients with mental health issues deserve to be treated with respect. They also stole my cross necklace and bracelets because they were expensive and I have not seen them since. A place so bad that it pains me to even call it a mental hospital.

Great caring kind people the only reason I give 1 star is because I don't think the intake process is fair at all u have to be there at like 8 0r 9 am and wait there's no appointments or consideration for people that can't make it that early because of work or health issues it's just first come first serve like they like to say but otherwise they are great just good luck waiting in line for a chance at help

I have been here multiple times during a rough patch in 2018-2019. It was mostly horrible. To start, They one time brought me in a room with the charge nurse, therapist, activities director and just took like half an hour to belittle me about how my suicidal thoughts were "fake", making fun of how childish I was, etc. they did that because I was in and out a lot when in reality I was stuck at my abusive parents house and needed out. They also got annoyed when anyone would knock in the window for water or something, my roommate one time was treated so bad that they went from just being there for anxiety to being suicidal. They barely ever provided anything like Clean clothes, underwear etc. One time when I got readmitted, the charge nurse confronted me about my comment card I wrote at last discharge that they give you. The charge nurse and her daughter LPN at the time were the worst there. Causing most of these issues.

I can't say enough about this organization how disappointed I am with their services and their doctors and their interns. I came there 7 years ago when I move South from Connecticut. I was diagnosed as a child and then a teenager and then an adult as having adhd. When I moved down here to take care of my father I came to UVA for counseling and medication. Where I was misdiagnosed with depression with alcohol abuse no I haven't had a drink in 2 years. I was told I would see a therapist that would be there for 2 years for the residency. But what in turn happened is I had five different therapists in 2 years. Each one starting over from the start again. I was told that they don't prescribe ADHD medication because they were remanded by the state for giving out way too much to patients that didn't need it. Now after years of paying for medication that I didn't need spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars on medications that I did not need and did nothing but make my condition worse. They also put me through two 3-hour ADHD tests to have this organization that was doing these tests say that I just needed therapy and that I didn't have ADHD. Well in the last 2 years I've been diagnosed by five doctors for having adhd. In fact they said I was the poster child for adhd.I've been taking my ADHD medicine for 2 years now and I've become a normal person and a functioning human again. If I could sue them I would but they make you sign a waiver when you first get there. Stay away from this place like the plague, especially adolescence and pediatrics. I wish I had looked at the reviews earlier and I would have gotten away from this place. I have a wonderful GP at UVA but please stay away from psychiatry here they were just destroy your life they don't care.

This has to be THE WORST place to send your loved ones. Do not do it. Communication sucks, staff are clearly just there for a check with no bedside manner, and do not advocate for the patients. As a family member, I was horrified at the treatment and felt helpless. There was NO ONE behind those walls that we could get assistance from. And mind you, it was the most basic of issues. Like constantly coming in to interrupt or aggitate him, no remembering his medications, and not providing continuity of care through staff shift changes. Something as simple as a bed assignment became the crux of needing to call almost hourly. It was extremely disruptive to our lives at home having to do their job. But also only exacerbated the illness of the patient. There was NO ability to deescalate or provide mitigation services. We would have been better leaving him at home to his own devices!

they deserve zero stars. I have despised this practice since I was referred here over a year ago. They’re so disorganized, receptionist is rude, no one answers the phone, you can’t cancel your appointment on my chart, and have to call, but no one answers the phone. Today was the icing on the cake. I’ve had a payment plan set up with Sentara for years, however, today I find out that this specific office sent a bill to collections that is being paid in my current payment plan. The office could have mentioned it to me at any anytime before sending it to collections. I keep up with my bills and I’ve never had anything in collections .It was not even $50 so I would’ve paid it immediately or showed them it was included in my payment plan had I known they thought it was owed. They don’t actually help with any of your issues. All they do is prescribe medicine so they can get kickbacks. You are literally just an appointment and $$$$. All they do is increase your meds and then make you schedule another appointment so they can get more money . If you care about getting better at all, do not go here.

If you want to be treated like a junkie & ignored- this is the place for you! If you need suboxone- go literally anywhere else for a better experience. I’ve been forced off 1.5mg of clonazepam because they cannot prescribe any benzos with suboxone (even if you take 1/3rd a strip of 8mg suboxone every 3 days). Multiple workers here initially told me the 1.5mg is such a small dose I can stay on it safely. Then the head doctor said I can’t. They called in one week worth of adderall for me (who has taken it on & off for years), then after a backup at my main pharmacy, they sent a wildly incorrect prescription to a 2nd pharmacy. (5 days no ADHD meds at this point- and I was switching from a stronger medicine, Concerta, to the weaker Adderall) After sending a wildly incorrect prescription (10mg 1x day for 5 days instead of the correct two 20mg XR 1x day) , I call them, asking to send a correct one. They refuse until I book an appointment this week. Which would be fine, if not for the fact they saw me a week prior & told me I already had a follow up booked (was told this but the appointment was never made). Today, 7 days after being prescribed adderall, they tell me they may write only a 2 day supply as I have an appointment Wednesday. Never have I experienced such chaos, lack of communication, and lack of care for what is truly best for the patient. If you want to be here weekly in order to have meds prescribed one week at a time- this is the place for you. If you want something done correctly and efficiently, this is not the place for you. The only care provider here who truly cares about patient’s quality of life is Alana. If your sanity or functionality is of importance to you- avoid at all costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in Virginia?
When comparing providers in Virginia, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in Virginia?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in Virginia?
Yes. Mental Health US includes Virginia providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all Virginia providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
