I have been to this office many times over the years, they have always been professional. I have no bad reports. They are usually really overwhelmed with patients and so you have to stay on top of your appointments or you will fall behind as it will take them a while to get you back in the scheduled, that is the only problem I have ever ran into with them.

The nurses, schedule lady, Ms. Davis and Mr. Presley are amazing. Everyone else is clearly only there for a paycheck. Also never rely on their emails, texts or automated phone calls for anything. If you didn't speak to a real person, it didn't count. Because of this my child's case was closed. They expect you to be punctual and make a big deal of it, but there's been times where I sat in the waiting room for an hour or more after my appointment waiting to go back. The doctors hardly pay attention or actually care. They're there to throw pills at you. Safe to say my whole family is beyond done with this place.

Four or so years ago they landed me in a horrible predicament. I needed my medication changed swiftly, I was having a reaction, and I was experiencing a psychiatric nurse outside of the center who was not helping. I told them that, and went in with the impression I could work with their psychiatrist after an intake visit. They insisted I fire my therapist who I had a good relationship with and use theirs just to access their psychiatrist. This is dangerous behavior and not what the field of psychology would indicate to do at all. I know this because I experienced good clinics after. I did have to go to the hospital though because of their negligence. I no longer need medication anymore but with the way this center was run, if I’d gone with their therapist I’d likely still be floundering. Thanks for nothing.

If you have private insurance, you're better off going to a nicer facility that actually cares about your mental health! My loved one was here 7 days and it's extremely unprofessional and unorganized. I'm so glad it's over. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worse enemy! The only pleasant experience was visitation. The woman there was so nice and welcoming! I could go on and on but to say the least, avoid this place if you can please!

Outstanding experience for behavioral Recovery. This place genuinely cares about the patients and treatment plan for in inpatient and outpatient. My Doctor and Case worker Advocated for me and for treatment plan as well as to go as far as referring me to another outpatient due to insurance. My experience was very inspiring in group therapy for my stay and help me realize that every one struggles with mental health and it’s OK to have and it is our responsibility for asking help when we are struggling.

I sought assistance here and it was just a big waste of time and energy. They don’t actually do anything to help anyone here. They just keep making you fill out more paperwork, then you go in for more appointments, and they just ask you more questions and give you more things to sign. They never talk about if or how they can help. They never do anything to help. They look at you like you are crazy for asking for help. Everyone working there looks like they’re all doing the Thorazine shuffle and don’t have a clue what’s going on. You never see any other clients and the waiting room is always empty. I’m really not sure how this place makes any money or what it is they do.

They are rude and unprofessional. Instead of talking to u, they talk down to u.. I understand that it is a budget-help place but people with mental health don't need this kind of treatment. It only makes them run away from treatment and continue to go unhelped until something happens. I know about this 1st hand.. The state S.C. government should be doing something about the state-funded place's treatment of the public and how they are being helped. It's bad when the supervisors even give a negative attitude. I know the government isn't responsible for most things but it's on the state to make sure the programs are being run correctly and actually helping we the people

My therapist is great. Also my Psychiatrist was amazing too (Dr.Sonato). However he got done on the 7th of April this year. I was supposed to have an appointment with the nurse Monday of this week to get refills on my scripts. They called me SAME DAY to cancel on me and reschedule because apparently my nurse was having to take another nurse’s appointments since she’s out?? But I already had an appointment and you waited to tell me same day?? Then, someone from the medication line called me Monday after they cancelled and rescheduled my appointment to tell me that I needed to call the script line every month 5 days before I run out to get a refill. But she said Monday that she would refill them for me on Thursday. Thursday came along, I called the med line for good measure but couldn’t leave a message because the mail box was FULL……so I called again and spoke to someone at the front desk who ASSURED me that her or the med lady would call me back that day. Nobody contacted me. So I called again yesterday (Friday) once at 9am to leave a message on the med line(it finally wasn’t full this time) and waited until about 2pm without hearing anything which prompted me to call AGAIN. This time I spoke to someone at the front desk who told me Shawna (the med lady) was working on my refill order at that moment. This whole time I was checking my CVS app to see if anything was filled and nothing was. Then 4pm rolls around (they close at 5pm and NOBODY is there on weekends for anything) and at 4:20 after being an hold for like 15 minutes, they said it was just awaiting doctor signature and PROMISED me it would be done before they closed at 5pm and told me their was no point in me calling a fourth time as I wouldn’t have anything to worry about. Well now it’s Saturday, I am taking my last meds today, and I won’t even be able to speak to someone again until Monday when they open back up. I am bipolar and have adhd. Nice to know that my mental health means nothing yet they have no problem asking me when I’m making my next payment. Absolutely RIDICULOUS!!

Know that if you come in, desperate for help and cant afford it you HAVE to fill out the Hardship program paperwork immediately or they will slap you with a multi thousand dollar bill despite being assured many, MANY times while in a terrible mental state that it will be taken care of and that you will be covered. They don't care if you need help or don't understand how the system works or if your mental health hinders you from being able to take the proper steps in a "timely manner." No one tells you there's a cut off. Only gave a two star because they did help me find some medications that can help.

Yalls medicine ruined my life. It goes in and trys to destroy every aspect of your health. This is why the majority of people dont take it because it destroys their wellbeing. Invega stustenna goes in and causes severe pain throughout the entire body. Abilify causes extreme weakness in the body potentially leading to organ damage, falls, and death. Zyprexa weakens and damages tissues in the body including the brain causing severe cognitive decline. Cognitive impairment due to the medication impairs judgment which causes people to go back into the hospital.

The quality of patience care are non existent. My daughter is a very sick individual they don’t have the education to even handle her. Sometimes they say they called but I never received one. Then when I called after 10 minutes into my appointment only to find out they closed her case these people are getting paid to do absolutely nothing they are close your case happy the have no empathy, don’t read patients records. I to was receiving my meds for them they closed my case also because I missed my counselor call my phone doesn’t always work, then because I missed her call she took it upon herself to cancel my appointment with the doctor so no meds. I’m lost now I have no income and I have also a serious mental illness.

Had to stop seeing my therapist because she would quite literally cancel every other appointment. Not very helpful. Recently was supposed to have a psychiatrist appointment (back in November) but she has since twice rescheduled to next year. I definitely don't recommend this place, it's almost as if nobody actually cares and it's incredibly disappointing. I was also told I 'looked depressed' by nurse Dorian because I was wearing a sweatshirt and sweatpants.. I went to that appointment because the medication they put me on (an antipsychotic) caused me to experience intense boredom (a common symptom). She did not believe me and insisted I was depressed instead because of how I looked? For someone who works in the mental health field you should know better than to tell somebody that, nor does depression have a 'look'.

I received treatment here. It was nice that they have a sliding scale, for financial struggles but that's about the best thing I can say. The front staff are not kind at all, especially on the way out. except for the girl at the check in desk. Then I finally get back there. They put me on a bunch of meds that I did want to try, but then treat me so weird when I'm experiencing side effects and refuse to come up with any suggestions that don't sound worse, and Everytime Im having an normal, real life reaction to a very sad or difficult thing I've been through, my therapist won't talk to me, she cares more about her paperwork, and only acts like a therapist when I start crying.both my doctor and my therapist also threatens to put me in hospital or asks if I'm suicidal when that wasn't even thought about or brought up even. My sister died. She was killed in a car crash, I don't want to die. I miss my sister why is that so hard to understand? I'm paying you to understand. Jesus. Don't go here.

Did not benefit from anything they had to offer. Counselor that was assigned just stopped showing up without a response. Called and they assigned a new Counselor who i talked to on the phone twice and said she was trying to figure out what was going on but was trying to set an appointment in the meantime. A week later I get a phone call from someone there asking about the original Counselor and I explained what had happened and I'm still waiting on the services that was promised. I was told that she was extremely sorry and she would figure it out and have someone get in touch right away. It's been 3 weeks so I do not expect anything from them at this point. I will be reaching out to social services who assigned them to my family for assistance to inform them that it has been a huge waste of time. Promises of help but put me in a worse spot by doing so and not following up. Will also be contacting Gov McMaster as his office is the one who initiated the help for my daughter.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in South Carolina?
When comparing providers in South Carolina, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in South Carolina?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in South Carolina?
Yes. Mental Health US includes South Carolina providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all South Carolina providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
