Took my stepdaughter there today. Not sure what her experience was. Facilities looked fine, lobby was nice and clean, that's all I saw. But communication is nonexistent if you're not standing inside the building. I tried repeatedly to call and change her appointment. No one ever answered and couldn't leave a message because mailbox was full. I tried calling the number...same number, different extension...for new appointment just to try to speak to someone. No one ever answered, but at least you could leave a message, which would be returned in 48 hours. My wife tried this method and never received a call back. I sat in the lobby over 45 minutes and never heard the phone ring once. They were not that busy, the 2 ladies at the windows received maybe 5 clients during that time. Answer the freaking phone. Take a message and return it. Pathetic.

They do not offer the psychiatric services to the community and ltc facilities as stated. The ER will tell you they do not have psychiatrists on staff to evaluate patients at all times. So why are they stating they are impatient/outpatient psychiatric care if there are no psychiatrists to evaluate and treat? People don't have mental health issues at the convenience of doctors. There is no such thing at RMC as round the clock mental health care and the ER doctors will tell you that.

Hiya!! This last year I was admitted, horrible place. Awful staff, doctors and social workers. Personally, I watched a girl be sedated then left to sit in a chair with her chin and head tucked between her knees, with little respirations, the Dr who’d administered these meds then continued to freak out on how both her blood pressure and respiratory rate was down. Simply left her there. Along with leaving me in a room with a roommate threatening to fight everyone including me, they simply “weren’t sure” if they could move me into a new room! We can’t forget the nurses and staff telling those that they could “never be model with all those scars.” Overall we’d waist time, we did very few things of any production. We were forced to be confined with highly destructive and dangerous children. Throwing things, putting holes in the walls with her head, and not interfering because she will or should “calm down on her own.”

Hartzog Center canceled my brother's appointment for no apparent reason. Now that his meds are due, they will not refill them. I have to take him to Aiken for a walk in appointment and pray for the best until he sees his psychiatrist next month. What a crock! They don't care!

I agree Lucinda is a horrible person, and should not be in charge of any program or facility. I have known Dr. Smith since around 2003, incredible doctor, incredible man. Carmen was a blessing, Susan Houck was a great therapist and there are no words for Dolly, I miss her dearly! My son died suddenly and Lucinda was cold, rude and fake as always. She knows I have been going to them for ages, and she hates people. I plan on writing the director and Dr Smith personal letters in reference to the way I was treated by Althea and Lucinda. Terrible excuse for mental health help.

I was advised to go here after some personal issues and I had to see a therapist before I could see the psychiatrist for my medication, the therapist said I had to do an hour visit and get information in prior to the doctor seeing me. I had my first visit with the therapist for over an hour in the office talking to her and filling out documents, after that visit I was told I had to come back a see her again for another visit before I could again see the doctor for my prescription because she was done with what she needed to do in the original visit. I was not trying to get therapy from this office. Just keep up with my medication. I am a full time single parent and employee. I didn't have time to keep going up there and taking time off my job for her services. Then they kept scheduling appointments and calling even after I told them I wasn't coming back so the insurance company was attempted to be charged. They did not do what I needed to help me and it felt like a waste of my time. The therapist also only had 2 separate time slots a day that she was available to see me (didn't line up with my scheduling needs) and twice for the second appointment the office called me to reschedule because she was unavailable. They either need more employees or something because it was really difficult working with them. Front office girls were nice, even though the one doing my paperwork must have been new because she kept needing assistance with the process. I understand there is a training process and had No Issues with that. In all the experience sucked and was time consuming and I didn't ever get my medicine.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in South Carolina?
When comparing providers in South Carolina, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in South Carolina?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in South Carolina?
Yes. Mental Health US includes South Carolina providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all South Carolina providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
