I had an incredible experience in the CooperRiis program. It enabled me to work very hard on myself uninterrupted (in a beautiful place with lovely people who truly cared about me and my well-being). I went through all stages of this program. I would highly recommend going through each level, including the community program and living in your own apartment with support. I'm almost 8 years away from discharging from this program. In those eight years I had so many accomplishments.... And I continue to accomplish each day each year! I give a lot of credit to this program because of the continued success I've had outside of this community. If I had not done the work on myself, I would not be where I am today. I am happily married. My husband and I have adopted four animals, and we bought our own home. I went back to school and am close to earning my degree this December in human services. Not just earning a degree, but making a 4.0 in my program. My mind is clear now and I have been able to learn so much easier without the fog of many medications. I was able to cut back my medications in half. I have also recently been able to get off benzodiazepines. I'm almost 8 years sober. My husband and I planted an amazing garden. I have gained a lot of other skills that I loved being able to practice on the farm. I am now a case manager and I am happy helping other individuals with similar experiences. This place, CooperRiis, is one which recovery truly happens. And it happens from the start of showing up and being wrapped around with care, to 8 years later were you still feel a part of the family and the CooperRiis community. I have also been able to flourish in my own family system and learning how to be the person I was always intended to be prior to my mental health diagnosis. My relationship with my parents and sister and other family members are night and day and truly a blessing. This does not mean I don't still have anxiety, or I don't still have some depression, but I am able to manage all of this and live my life in a beautiful and fulfilling manner. Thank you, CooperRiis 🌻💓

I really think FSP is full of caring and helpful people who do their best to help those in need of mental health care. My experience is my own, and I can't speak for anyone else, but I can't say enogh for those who have helped and are helping me with my depression and anxiety; such as Ms. Shepard, Ms. Martin, and Dr. Steele. FSP offers a wide range of services to individuals and families, such as advocacy groups, meetings, counselling, and medical examinations. This being a govornment agency, expect to get stuck in the red tape, but DON'T GIVE UP!! Be your own mental health advocate, and understand that you deserve help, and to be in a safe place with people who DO care.

I am always very impressed with the counseling I receive from Dr. Jaclyn Smith. She is amazing and a great asset to Monarch. I have been in contact with her for over seven years and she has greatly helped me in so many ways. She is always courteous and listens to what I have to say. She has assisted me with medication issues and always knows how to handle any difficult situations I am faced with. I hope I am able to continue seeing her for many years into the future because we have developed a relationship that is valuable to me. I cannot commend her enough for her service. She is tremendous!

I've been to three clinics in five years and this one was by far the worst. No real help, when I was moving to Pennsylvania my counselor told me there were no methadone clinics anywhere near where I was going, I called my mother and within minutes she listed off 5 places for me to get help. I moved to Pennsylvania and got the help I finally needed.

They have no feelings for patients. If you hurt yourself or have a legit reason to not come in they won’t call you in any meds including psyche meds. Keep in mine I had to move to sc overnight to care for my mother with my sister and because they refused to give me a months worth off meds I couldn’t cancel my Medicaid in nc.Also I had broke the three bones in my ankle and dislocated it and I was ordered to keep my foot up and they called in my meds in one time. Also my mother that has dementia and had to ride with us and some days were tough and there was absolutely no concern from any of her or her employees. This place is horrible. She had Medicaid fraud but has doctors writing scripts. She has absolutely no feelings for anyone’s situation. All she had to do was write me 30 days of meds and I wouldn’t have had to travel there. It cost a lot of money and she had no consideration and no guilt.

The hickory place seems to really help out my cousin. I’m so glad to see them healthy and clean and they even didn’t it without the medication you can get from them which makes me even happier for my cousin. I told them once I get my psychologist degree I can help them get through a lot of mental emotions as well as triggers. I just want to see everyone do great in life and overcome the hardships in life.

Everything I’ve experienced about this service is absolutely horrific. Both times they scheduled me during their lunch hour and then looked at me like I was a criminal for showing up for my scheduled appointment. During my first very first appointment I need to use the restroom. I asked to use the restroom. I went to go use the restroom And then I tried to get back in and they looked at me like I was a criminal shook their head at me like absolutely not so I pointed the room that I was in for my meeting where my partner was and where the team lead was I was like you can ask first, and they were like shaking their head at me like what are you doing? What am I doing? Trying to get back in my own gosh darn appointment that’s what I’m trying to do. So yeah they were told that. Yes I am the girl from the appointment and yes, they did allow me to use the restroom during it and then they scheduled me at noon. Guess what they take lunch from noon to one and when I show up for my scheduled appointment, they acted like there was no appointment for me and then they found out. Yes there was but the person that made my appointment for me lied to me about who was gonna be with also they lied to my doctor saying that they would prescribe you medication that you guys don’t prescribe like what are you doing? This is not a good service. It was supposed to start for me on October 1. It is October 23 now and I have still yet to have an in-home visit for my mental crisis. I have gone to their office twice. Been treated like a criminal twice so yeah I just do not recommend this place. That’s all I know at this point, I’m sure there’s a lot more worse stuff to know but this is what I know

Steer clear of this program if you don’t want your child to be restrained and go unconscious. On 3/8, my child who was recently diagnosed with ADHD was apparently combative and violent toward the therapists. His wrists were held from behind and arms were tightly crossed against his chest. This prevented him from releasing carbon dioxide which resulted in him going unconscious. I was called after he had awakened and returned to normal. However, EMS wasn’t called. I did not receive an incident report nor was I notified of his vital signs after being taken. Gabriela told me that he had gone unconscious twice, but Mary says once. I asked for video surveillance of the incident but Mary stated that there are no cameras in the swamp room. She also stated that I was given a “verbal incident report.” These people are shady and covering up what they did to my child so much so that because of what I mentioned to the lady who called me today about a grievance being filed, effective today, my child is being discharged because “I don’t feel comfortable.” That’s a decision I should make as an upset mother trying to process this whole situation. Furthermore, why would I feel comfortable if my child was made unconscious at the hands of the people who are supposed to protect him and say they are equipped to deal with children with behavioral issues? When I spoke with Mary yesterday, she kept fast talking and repeating herself. She also mentioned something about my son “zoning out” when that was something that should’ve been mentioned prior to Friday’s incident. I guess she was suggesting absence seizures which my child doesn’t have. I have a video of my child mentioning that he was held and could not breathe. I will now be conducting my own investigation.

Recently, I have been feeling really down and pretty much without hope. My husband had sugested I should go to Daymark to see if they could help me. I went in the glass doors with tears in my eyes and fear in my heart. I left dry eyed and ready for the next steps. They were Johnny on the spot! The next time I went in Nikki C. Actually waved at me like I was a welcome friend, not a basket case coming in on my last leg. She always smiles at me and makes me feel at home. Let’s not forget Melissa B. With her sweet disposition and cool glasses, they make quite the pair! Having people with a good attitude at the desk is awesome when you are in a sticky spot, they helped to ease the tension of the day! Thanks guys for doing what you do!

If I could give this rating a negative star trust me I would! I went in today and had to hold my composure. After applying and wanting to know if they have training on certain certification and the what all positions you could apply for the big darkskin lady was beyond rude. She sat in the chair eating a bag of chips and acted like i disgusted her and didn't want to respond to me but with a rude response. I said thank you and left because if she acted this way to a young student who was professionally dressed and polite I wouldn't dare want to work for that company! God bless the residents in that group home I will just take my good business to the other company just didn't want to drive to Winston Salem everyday but I will because they were respectful and professional.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in North Carolina?
When comparing providers in North Carolina, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in North Carolina?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in North Carolina?
Yes. Mental Health US includes North Carolina providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all North Carolina providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
