A caution to anyone considering Second Wind. I came here four and a half years ago, referred from an Intensive Outpatient Program for addiction. For most of those years, I worked with a genuinely talented clinician — I won't name them, since I don't have their expressed permission to speak about them publicly. Some months ago, Second Wind was sold to new ownership, and they "cleaned house" in a peculiar fashion. My therapist was fired with no notice to me, the client. My care was transferred to a second clinician, who was fired two weeks later — again, with no notice. I learned about the first firing when my scheduled Zoom appointment never produced a login. I learned about the second when I showed up in person for my appointment and walked into a room of three total strangers. When I went to the Clinical Director with the depth of my concern about this total failure of continuity of care, I was given in-office gossip and a handoff to the previous owner. The previous owner did call. He told me, in the most dismissive and incurious tone the conversation could bear, that my mind was clearly already made up about Second Wind, and that he had no time or interest in explaining or reconciling Second Wind's catastrophic coordination, communication, or duty of care. I am four and a half years sober. I am grounded in my sobriety, I love it, and I engage with it actively every day. But I remember the early days. I remember needing consistency and reliability *like air* — which is not a tall order for a behavioral health organization to provide. Second Wind, under its new ownership, failed at it twice in two weeks, with no apparent awareness that abandoning fragile clients without notice is exactly the kind of harm a mental health practice is supposed to prevent, not inflict. This is disqualifying behavior for a mental health organization. Keep looking. Second Wind is not prepared or interested in offering fragile addicts — all fighting for their lives — basic human respect, never mind a safe place to land and unpack the work of recovery.

After expressing my concerns regarding inadequate therapy to the director she turned around and blamed it on me! She said I was the one who didnt allow her staff to do their job yet the therapist never showed up. For 5 months he only came 1 time and they had the audacity to say I was the problem. Also another therapist never stayed the time allotted for my child. She would say he doesnt want to talk yet she never played anything with him. She never build any rapport with my child. Never bought any games or materials to build rapport with my kid. Also she had someone waiting for her outside so she was always in a rush! Would never recommend this agency!

Place is the worst outpatient facility out there! Counselor here lack privacy lack motivation and all of them consist of talking negative throughout the entire program. They bring you down instead of uplifting you. They also are envious of certain people I highly suggest that NOBODY comes and seeks treatment here you will only hurt yourself and your legal case if you have one Trust me stay away from them, if they think your under the influence they will also hold you hostage YES against your will and threaten you by calling the cops. They should be investigated for sure and places like this should not be open!

Honesly would never recomend. Was self addmited and there wad Absolutley no help from the start. Was very unclear on what was priority to stay in the program. Lost my labs the first week I was there and took 4 weeks to inform me. Doctor seems very unprepaired for his position. Changed my prescription weekly and asked me to call him because he forgets and had to ask other proffesionals about my symptoms. Honestly might make u worse before better..

If I could give this NEGATIVE stars I absolutely WOULD. I was absolutely BELITTLED during a so-called psychiatric evaluation. I was manipulated, triggered, toyed with and more by the so-called evaluator. Not only did he belittle me, insinuate that I was lying and that I had nothing more than anxiety, but gave out completely outdated and false information to justify his ridiculous claims. He also VIOLATED BASIC HIPPA LAWS by speaking to people that knew me outside of the office, and factoring in their BIASED perspectives into MY healthcare. Despite hours and hours of concerningly symptomatic paperwork from myself, my family, and my schoolteachers; he dismissed every ounce of "proof" as coincidence or outright lies. For the entire TWO APPOINTMENTS (we had at least four additional scheduled; he wiped those away and told me to never return) he was willing to let me have, it felt like I was being put on the spot to prove myself worthy enough to even be CONSIDERED for the title of mentally ill. He narcissistically declared that had I actually been through everything I claimed to have experienced that I would be completely dysfunctional, nonverbal, and in constant panic (I do experience each of these, just not CONSTANTLY as this would be unrealistic). This "evaluation" (I do not believe it can be classified as such as he disregarded all of the paperwork upon speaking with me for a single minute, and only ever skimmed through it) cost me so much time, energy, and money. All to reinforce the idea that my struggles did not matter now, nor did they ever matter, or would they ever matter. Several years later, I am sitting here having just found out that this "psychiatrist" has a degree in PHILOSOPHY!!! Not even psychology, which would STILL be an underqualification. It has genuinely taken me multiple YEARS of TRAUMA COUNSELING to prove to myself that my issues matter, let alone be able to decipher them all. I barely graduated high school thanks to the sheer lack of help from this SORRY EXCUSE for a MENTAL HEALTH CLINIC. Thank you for making my entire life worse. Oh and thank you *so* much for insisting that small inconsistencies meant that I was telling a fable. Turns out I have dissociative and repression issues that cause the memory of my own difficulties to falter. Thank you for instilling a sense of fear in me so deep that I thought all hope was gone. Thank you for giving my parents a reason to belittle me for my shortcomings, and abuse me for being different. Thank you for introducing a level of despair so great into my mind, body, and soul, that I was *inspired* to attempt suicide. Thank you for absolutely nothing but hell.

As the support who put time, energy, and money into my gf's appointments, I'm telling you, the way staff treats DISABLED wound care patients(esp with follow-up)is DISGUSTING!! FACT: We have WEATHER in upstate. People have CAR TROUBLE. If you are so ABLEIST as to not have the COMPASSION and UNDERSTANDING this as it relates to disability limitations and need to cancel, you should be shut down. As it is, a fill in nurse recently accused her of missing an appointment, WHEN I TOOK HER MYSELF! Never make accusations w exculpatory witnesses present. Might run to State on this. Don't even think of blacklisting the patient. Don't ask me to contact you, because you were supposed to contact her and left her hanging.

Unfortunately the option for Zero stars is non-existent.This public healthcare facility has degraded the Quality of Living Standards on our block. Patients linger and loiter in front of all the residential buildings making it very difficult to make your way into your own residences. Female commuters walking through this block to the train can't even get by without being harassed. ICL patrons and employees constantly smoke in front of the buildings where children live. We have made numerous attempts to put an end to these behaviors, even talking to the management at the ICL has not yielded any results. Most of the employees are very kind and respectful, but there are some that decide to smoke nearby the residences even after several requests to not do so. If your employees don't respect our wishes, how can we expect your patrons to do so. They won't smoke in front of their own building... I wonder why? They also won't take their smoking around the corner to Atlantic Ave, where there is minimal foot traffic. Now we have marijuana, k2 and cigarette smoking patients loitering all on our block. Enraged patrons screaming, threatening and cursing erratically at all times of the day. Can't even take the kids outside to play anymore. What used to be a quiet block in Cypress Hills is now a riff raff save haven.... this is ridiculous. Let's see if our local politicians have anything to say about this during our next board meeting. If this isn't resolve asap we will be opening up a formal complaint with the 75th Precinct and take this to court. Thank you NYC gov & ICL for turning our beautiful treelined block into a DUMP!!!

horrible location, people are so rude here and unhelpful. They refuse to release medical records for their patients and give the run around. Supervisor never calls back and we have been trying to obtain records for more than 6 months and even social security does not get ahold of anyone here to release records. do not go here if you plan on filing for disability or if you want compassionate care because they obviously do not care!

I met two representatives from Argus Community Inc. at the LaGuardia career fair on May 20th, and both (a woman and a man) were quite rude toward some people who approached their table. If you don’t enjoy talking to people, you shouldn’t have represented your organization at the career fair.

Horrible place. They changed me $326 for a 3min phone conversation. N after 3 months they still refuse to do Anything. They won't even let me speak with the woman that charge the bill to my account. They monopolize on a fact that they are the only hospital over here. I just choose not to a deal with them anymore I'm not going to any hospital as associated with them

I was going for about a year and a half. Never made it past the first step. Felt as if they were never going to get me the help I needed. I was pretty sure they just had me coming in to collect my money from my insurance company. It was a big waste of my time. Its been over 6 months since i stopped going. Been trying to get right in the head again just to start going to get help. Honestly I would love to leave-5 stars if I could.

Just straight up fraud machine. They will charge 3 visits for intake before they help you with anything. Those three visits equal the 45min questioner you would fill out by yourself to see a psychiatrist. That's all the 3 intake visits are. These kind of places ruin our Healthcare system. Not helping anyone.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in New York?
When comparing providers in New York, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in New York?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in New York?
Yes. Mental Health US includes New York providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all New York providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
