I sent my brother here for a 96-hour evaluation. This was NOT the first time he has been here as he is an unmedicated, noncompliant, and fanatical patient with a diagnosed mental illness. When I called to let them know he was calling and threatening my parents they told me they would restrict his phone access - that didn't happen. BUT when I called to discuss the status of his treatment I was asked for a password. WTH! how can a mentally unstable man give me a password when the voices in his head tell him I'm working with a government agency to control him! No really. I had him committed so when would he be able to give me the password? I understand HIPPA for the patient that understands HIPPA. Wouldn't the next best thing be the family advocating for their family member? My sister finally spoke with the case manager whose inattention was obvious when she asked my sister a question that was provided at the beginning of the call. I understand my brother does not have insurance and their jobs are unforgivingly brutal but don't let the red tape and money keep you from giving the care needed. What is the goal when i have to go to the courts to petition for admission? Shouldn't you want to coordinate with the family? WHO IS THE DR? Who will hear the side of the person that went to the court to petition to have him hospitalized? What is the goal? give him a shot and send him back onto the street to terrorize his family and those around him? Thanks Hyland we really appreciate your help...

This place is part of the reason why rural health care is so bad. It’s just another place that “follows” state guidelines. You can’t ever get a hold of the nurses or doctors and communication is terrible. Support staff is great. The doctors are the issue. Why I have to take my kid to a place to do a telehealth appointment doesn’t make sense to me. The communication is so bad they don’t respond until the end of the day and by then you’re scrambling. Go literally anywhere else

PARENTS BEWARE!!!! Do not trust these people with your children they will cause your children more trauma. Evan had my child so terrified he was able to get in a room in the building and lock himself in why those idiots just stood there while I’m trying to get my son to come out. The head supervisor Josh Smith and CEO Mike Cantrell do not care what happen to my child. My child is traumatized and will never feel comfortable talking to a Counselor or therapist again.. I had been with North central 5 plus years I did have the best case worker ever. Things have certainly change over the last 6months. They seem to really pile on the case load to their caseworkers to the point its almost not worth the time. Lost paper work. People Ive truly admired fired. My best advice is trust your gut. Don't let them pressure you into therapy you probably need but for my case I had to learn to trust and know my worth. I was sorta thrown into the shark tank with what I guess is the main person now and I stand by my words. Its ok to not be ready to open a door your not ready for. Each person has different ways of dealing with things. I was thrown into the shark tank with Connie which from hear say is the overall worker for Brookfield. I will say they got a new doctor name Dr Tom which Im sadly gonna miss. He really knows his stuff and watches out for other medicines that may have negative reactions to other things you maybe taking for sure listen and take his advise. I moved here with a mission to put my health and mental health first. My first caseworker was the first to break my barriers down. I seem to move at turtle speed but it's better than falling behind. I recently changed after my complaint about the brookfield staff. I knew I needed certain things back in control to get me where I needed to be. Unfortunately after talking about my complaints to Trenton. I was told I couldn't see my Dr anymore. Again that's two people I broke down barriers for and was adapting to and truly making progress. I decided to try several different places several with a long wait list. I did find a place that could meet all my needs and with mobility an issue now they also do telehealth. To my old 2 caseworker thank you for everything! To Dr Tom your the Best!! Best advise I have is any paperwork being done make copys your gonna need it.

We were seen quickly last night. I had an adverse reaction to a medication. I can't say enough good things about the staff at this ER!! Gabrielle was friendly! Miranda, my nurse, was compassionate and kind! Dawn was wise and wonderful! Dr. Shankar even stopped in before we left to double check that we were in agreement with my treatment plan, moving forward. I was very impressed by him, also! They gave me excellent care! Great job, Mercy Hospital!

Well today somebody who works at this place hit and ran over a poor little defenseless kitten and just left it to suffer and pass away so All could see! People just stood there watching They didn't call animal control or anything else they just watched it suffer and die! I placed my shirt Over the poor little kittens body cuz I have a heart and soul, plus there were kids coming out of this place and I didn't want them to see. Me and my friend cleaned up after we had called animal control and they picked up the kittens body, I would like people to know what kind of people they're taking their kids to as well as anybody else that goes here! Thank you and may God have mercy on your soul!

I was sent here in December of 2012 when I was 12 years old. I was there for depression and suicidal ideation after bullying at school and my home life imploding with my parents separating. I remember being taken here by an ambulance from the ER on the plaza. It was terrifying. It was like going to jail. No adult would explain to me what was happening. My innocence died that day. I had to beg for a phone call home, and as a kid who was very attached to her parents, being unable to see or contact them was traumatic. I remember being given all sorts of pills, trying to find the right dose, making my brain feel so confused and foggy. I remember being woken up in the middle of the night, walked to another unit and given an injection in my arm. The nurses said it was a flu shot but why would I get a flu shot in the middle of the night in such a secretive manner? That contends of that injection and all the questions I have about it have haunted me for years, and I know I’ll never get answers. I remember them locking kids in the “safe room” a padded room with no windows, and giving this girl a shot that made her pass out on the floor of the room. I remember her screams and cries quieting down until she went unconscious. Sitting in the common room being told to just look at the tv while this girl was tranquilized. I remember a staff member telling the rest of us that that could be us too if we didn’t listen. The Polar Express played on repeat on a vhs tape and to this day I cannot stand to watch that movie. I remember the sleepless nights, in that cold room with the thin, itchy blanket. The group therapy sessions where if you didn’t participate, your release date would be pushed back. The snide comments from the staff and my phone calls home being held over my head like bait. The feeling of complete desperation and loneliness. Like I had been abandoned and punished. It has been nearly 14 years since this experience and I think the trauma of it will stay with me forever. I’m a well adjusted adult with a good career now, but the lasting effects of childhood trauma will remain with me. After being released, I switched schools and ended up at Marillac a few months later, adding another layer of trauma. Reading other patients stories has brought some closure in knowing that I wasn’t alone in my experiences. While I don’t remember their names, I do remember the faces of the kids I was in there with. They still cross my mind from time to time and I hope they are okay now and found some sort of peace.

I DON'T recommend Dr. Cohen! She said to me, "If you're not taking going to take meds, then why are you seeing me?" HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT TO ME OR ANYONE! You are VERY LUCKY that I DIDN'T REPORT YOU! That's a great way to get your license provoked! That's very UNPROFESSIONAL! I came here for help and I get this?! That's NOT ok! You didn't even take notes of the conversation we had! I'm NEVER letting them have me see her again! Recommend someone else, besides her that WILL HELP YOU!

They only let 3 people leave a week. And that's only if 3 new people come in. If you come in withdrawing, it's the luck of the draw if you get put on suboxone. Even if it will help you succeed and stay sober. You have a 50 percent chance of getting the Doctor who believes in suboxone helping people, and then you got 50 percent chance of getting rhe doctor who hates suboxone and doesn't care if you go shoot up fentanyl and die when you leave this place, she refuses to give it to you. I've seen multiple people who need it, because they are opiate addicts, and the Doctor just tells them no she won't make you into a zombie. And I know one person who if that Doctor just would have listened instead of shutting them down, would still be alive today. It's not a game, it's someone's life. This place is just about their Medicaid funding so don't go there unless your p.o. is forcing you to. They don't care what happens to you when you leave.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in Missouri?
When comparing providers in Missouri, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in Missouri?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in Missouri?
Yes. Mental Health US includes Missouri providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all Missouri providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
