They scheduled an appointment for my daughter but she went and they were closed. I have a picture of the card they gave us for that extact day. I called they said that the appointment was never made on their end and they were closed for a staff meeting. The girls up at the front are very rude. Especially the one that has been here for years. Also the whole walk in deal just to tell you, you have to wait for hours to be seen is wild.

Don't even waste your time calling, they DO NOT care about helping you. The receptionist will tell you there's nothing they can do then be rude to you when you tell them this is your only option. You'll get off the phone feeling worse than you did before.

MHA is not a good place to get any services. There staff are not good. I did like there services until they promoted my case manager and now I don’t see any hope for my future. And I don’t think I’m ever going to see future for my life anymore. But it’s not worth wasting your time at MHA

Absolute garbage. How many times does a suicidal person have to say they’re suicidal before getting help? (Not me, a member of my family)

My spouse was admitted following a serious workplace injury in early March, where he sustained six broken ribs after being pinned between beams in an accident that was determined to be entirely not his fault. During his hospital stay, he was drug tested for workman's comp and tested positive for marijuana. We live in a state where marijuana is legal. Since that time, he has been placed into intensive outpatient treatment for substance use, in order to keep his job. Despite having no history of drug abuse, dependency, or related issues. He has now completed three weeks of this program, yet is being required to complete an additional three weeks—services that are not covered by insurance. What has been most concerning is the lack of communication and support regarding his ability to return to work. We have made repeated attempts to contact staff for guidance or clearance, but have received little to no response. However, there has been no issue contacting him regarding payment for services. This situation has created significant stress, both financially and emotionally. I have been solely supporting our household at 7 months pregnant with no end of this nightmare in sight. My spouse is trying return to work to provide for our family as we are desperately hurting financially but instead feels stuck in a system that does not appear to be individualized to his situation. Being placed in treatment alongside individuals with severe substance abuse issues has also taken a toll on his mental well-being. We understand the importance of safety and proper evaluation, but there should be a balanced and reasonable approach based on each individual case. At this point, the process feels excessive, unclear, and certainly financially driven. We would strongly encourage better communication, clearer criteria for treatment requirements, and more consideration of individual circumstances moving forward.

My experience with them has been rough. When a loved one had to go for mental health things, they had them sign papers at the beginning, where I was listed as an ok contact person. Then Valeo transferred them to a house and apparently didn't send the basic paperwork. I had to deal with 3 phone calls where I was treated like trash by staff (operators were actually kind, it was the people taking care of my loved one that did this).

A couple years ago I had Nick, who no longer works there. He was impatient with occasional anger. He always expected me to teach his group for him when he would get too frustrated. Now my fiance has Diana and I wish I had found her a different place to go. Diana's group spends the entire 2 hours doing check ins and chit chat. There is no set structure followed towards graduating and actual progress is put off repeatedly to spend all the time doing check ins and chatting. My fiance has no desire to drink and no cravings or triggers or any failed UA but cant graduate because there is nothing done in this group except checking everyone in and chit chatting with each one. If she has not graduated by her probation deadline I will be leaving negative reviews on every google account i can and on other websites as well. People who are not at risk of relapse and are ready for graduation shouldnt be forced to come for multiple months longer to continue charging money for their attendance. I have been around counseling my entire life with multiple family members working in the field and I have not seen this place be very efficient at all. If nothing is being taught to the client and no additional needed life skills are being learned (coping mechanisms, vulnerability, loving yourself etc) then there is no reason to be charging people to attend for half a year with no set timelined structure leading towards graduation that is not dependent clearly on their progress or risk level of relapse

Apparent lack of on-hand medications, no scheduled therapy sessions over the weekends, non-responsive on-call therapists, no family therapy sessions, no proactive daily communication with parents, no perceivable treatment plans, and insanely long telephone hold times (90+ minutes). Visitors are not required to undergo any sort of security screening, which is a mixed blessing. Ultimately, our kid came home worse for the wear.

Really frustrating and overall disappointing experience. I got shuffled around from person to person to person and had to repeat myself over and over to different people. I never received any kind of adequate treatment or care. They were misleading about billing and pricing. I just received a bill I cannot afford to pay, even though I never received any treatment that was helpful at all. I would highly recommend people stay away and do better help or something instead.

Shaina the NP was fantastic until she cold turkey’d me on a controlled substance when she left for maternity leave, not ensuring I have another med provider available. I have one scheduled but they can’t get me in for another few weeks and when I called to explain Kansas Mental Health Medicine to explain this to them, Jennifer abruptly hung up on me. With that being said, please dispute my $74 bill or we can do this the hard way.

It's affiliated with compass, so it's not an ideal place to seek help or services. It would be a waste of time. Staff are heartless and will close your case if you don't meet as often as THEY want, never caring about your needs and schedule. And it's a battle to get an appointment anyway, just like the outpatient branch.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in Kansas?
When comparing providers in Kansas, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in Kansas?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in Kansas?
Yes. Mental Health US includes Kansas providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all Kansas providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
