This place harmed my spouse when they were younger, released them more traumatized and suicidal, and charged them $900 for the experience. They were crowded and unprofessional, and the RN who saw them lied about her credentials (we found out afterwards from the bill). She tried to guilt them with religion, repeatedly pestered my spouse for "why they were suicidal" within hearing distance of multiple patients, and when they finally said what happened she excused herself to cry about what they said. One of the patients was able to stab herself in the face repeatedly with a bra wire she was somehow allowed to keep. This place was incapable, and many workers were unfit.

My stay here was almost absolutely insane. It was 50/50. Some patients were not under control whatsoever. The only good staff there was Caren,Lexi,Cynthia, marissa, and Carolyn. The therapist didn’t listen to what I had to say and always went by my moms word (she barely knows me) and kept poking at my insecurities and when I told her to stop she never did

If you ever see anyone there make sure it’s not Sarah. She showed up to my house 3-4 hours after my appointment And would not leave until the police were called. She started saying that I was unsafe and tried to convince my parents that I was trying to end my life when I didn’t even know her and didn’t speak to anyone about ending my life. (the appointment was to meet a new therapist ). Genuinely a scary experience and I’m thankful it’s all recorded. They have not taken any action against her. Don’t go there unless you want unwanted visitors showing up at 10 pm.

Can’t acknowledge they that they did not try, but not hard enough, sacrificing other people’s/ patient’s (myself) life, recovery and journey. Put my entire life on hold because I wanted to choose life, and CFD Del Mar simply let me down when I needed them most. Hurts

We have been involved with Behavioral health for a few years and I have had several appointments scheduled where they write my date and time on a card that I save...only to show up and I have no appointment. I live pretty far from them so it was a serious inconvenience. Almost every time since we have started with them there have been medication hold ups. The Doctor(Dr. Hyatt) is kind but needs assistance with medication refills. The only person in my opinion who is on her stuff is the nurse. When you have a adopted child on anti-psychotics and call and hear things like...well the doctor is out we don’t know what we can do....after you have been calling for over a week when she was there, it’s very disappointing; a After which they say things like we never heard from you. I check my call log and see I have called several times....it starts to feel like gaslighting. I know many who seek treatment here including us don’t have any other options...but please stay on these people if you are on life saving meds. We have been kind and patient for so long, I can’t imagine others going through this and needing medication to keep them doing okay. You can’t trust them to do what they say, you will need to call over and over. Stay on them and if they continue to not do what they need to do file a formal complaint. If enough people do this, I hope our most vulnerable population can receive proper treatment and a better quality of care.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in California?
When comparing providers in California, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in California?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in California?
Yes. Mental Health US includes California providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all California providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
