All these types of places are a hit or miss. Half of the staff here didn’t really care for you but then there’s an equal amount to make up for that, I would say most treatment centers systems and treatment process are generally not good. But what can you do they’re doing their job with limited resources. Albertina Kerr was unique to other places I’ve been. I went to Kerr twice years apart from each other. It’s an uncomfortable place, the main room feels like a hospital room equal to jail. Each child is going to interpret their stay here differently, for some they’ll feel indifferent or it might be the worst thing that ever happened to them. It mainly depends on what type of staff they have, the other children in your unit, and what’s going on in your own life. This place could help you or leave you in a worse spot in your life, and if your child is here cut them some slack, be kind. It’s a rough situation for everyone, but I guarantee that kid is going through the most of it. A lot of the staff are not equipped for big emotions and complex situations. A lot of them just expect depression and anxiety, but that’s not just what these places are about. Your kid could be put in harsh situations with other clients as well, and see some pretty rough things. I can’t even cover all the things I saw and was involved in. Being here will most likely leave you with an empty lost feeling, it’s hard to describe. But overall I don’t know where I would be without this stay, and it still holds a special place in my heart. It helped and didn’t help that’s all I can say.

My daughter has been on their waitlist since 5/2024. I responded to multiple emails advising yes we were still interested over the past 5 months. She finally got an appointment scheduled for this week. I called 48 hours in advance to reschedule this appointment due to a family emergency and was advised she has been removed from the waiting list and they will not reschedule. The intake coordinator was unprofessional and offered no solutions or empathy. I’ve left a message for the office manager but have yet to hear back. I’m flabbergasted a mental health clinic would treat a new pediatric patient with such little regard.
