I’ve been trying to get real help for my son who is struggling with serious behavioral issues and I’m extremely disappointed in how slow and unresponsive this place has been. After opening up about everything we’ve been through, I was told we had to wait weeks just to get paperwork from teachers before anything could move forward. (As if i don't know my own child better then the teachers, help needs to start at home first which is where he spends most of his time) Meanwhile, my child is still in crisis. When I finally got an appointment, I called ahead and told them I’d be just 2 minutes late due to being a single mother with a newborn and they still refused to see us. I was literally on the freeway coming from Alliance before I had to turn around. Wasting gas I don't even have. They also refused to give me any sort of documentation for why my child was late to school that day knowing full well it was related to this appointment. Where is the compassion? The urgency? The flexibility for families who are clearly struggling? I’m not saying every provider here is bad, but the system is broken. If you’re a parent in crisis hoping for quick support and flexibility, be aware you may end up more frustrated than helped. Not sure if I will be with this agency much longer. I'm doing my best to give them a chance.

I love the team of people that takes care of my teeth at Hopewell Health Center in McArthur, Ohio! They are professional but also personable. They put me at ease when I had to have a painful procedure done. They made certain that I was as comfortable and in as little pain as possible during the procedure. I highly recommend them, especially Dr. Venoy, to anyone in the surrounding area I live 30 minutes from them but choose them over dentists closer to my home.

I have been receiving services here off and on for the past few years. Every place is gonna have bumps and sometimes gonna have to wait, but I have always been treated with respect and care here. It's even a bit of a drive for me being about 35-40 minutes away, but it's worth it to have doctors who understand and therapists who listen.

I would like to begin this by stating that for my protection, I wish to remain anonymous in this report. 1. This place has countlessly exhibited gross negligence, exemplified by the lack of accountability pertaining to counselors, inappropriate behaviors by nurses, and general disregard, as shown by the front desk. Examples: A. Mistakes made with prescription medications. B. Counselors that make harsh judgement calls, and leaving clients to their own devices over weekends, which could lead to suicide/ hospitalization- while said counselors continue to go to their comfy little offices. B. Knowledge of susceptible mental states of clients, and not maintaining communication in a timely manner. 2. Inappropriate commentary/ emotional abuse by staff to patients, as well as timeless examples of sexual harassment by staff to clients. 3.Punitively using information by the client as blackmail to justify emotional abuse, silencing clients who try to report issues, and in turn, weaponizing mental health conditions for character assassination, to perpetuate further abuse. 4. One upmanship/verbal abuse by staff as a means of establishing and maintaining control of clients. 5. Errors in medication, followed by the front desk hanging up. To all existing or future clients here, please do not let this agency abuse you. Also, disregard their additional responses/ commentary. They do not understand the concept of personal accountability, and will proceed to shift blame. I’d tell them to look in the mirror, but I think they do that enough already.

My counselor Jodi has been always pessimistic, interrupting me constantly and telling me that what I'm talking about isn't relevant, that I need to stay focused on "what if you go to prison". I've had my new job for over two weeks now and she still doubts that I will remain employed for some reason? I have been waiting for a call for over 35 minutes now, I dont expect to even recieve one from her to try to reschedule.

Finding parking in the afternoon is awful. The waiting area is smaller and crowded very often and it's uncomfortable but they do they have teleheath and you can just schedule over the phone after your first in person appointment. Lots of sidewalk around here so you can park a bit away and walk if you don't mind. You could go to family dollar that is about 15 minutes away by sidewalk. Dr.Coven is very caring and is very supportive and a great med Doctor! I haven't seen the therapists here yet but I hope they hire more so that there is a selection of people to pick from such as queer counselors so the trans community gays etc feel more understood and comfortable. I would ask them if you accept your insurance over the phone before scheduling ahead of time when it comes to medications, counseling and all other services they offer here

Ascend Recovery and Counseling Services in Portsmouth, Ohio failed to provide fair or ethical treatment during my stay. I followed the rules, made progress in my recovery, and even served as Head of Household for three weeks with no disciplinary issues. Despite this, I was treated unfairly and experienced retaliation after reporting staff misconduct. Major issues: • Retaliation — After reporting a group facilitator for targeting and unprofessional behavior, staff attitudes toward me changed and my progress was blocked. • Delayed phase advancement — I was not phased up appropriately. My counselor later admitted I had not been given required assignments, yet my progress was still held back. • False accusations — I was accused of not participating right before I was supposed to phase up. This was untrue and contradicted my documented progress. • Lack of transparency — When I asked for written policies explaining decisions affecting my treatment, they would not provide them. • Denied critical emotional support — I requested support for a major facial reconstructive surgery appointment at the cancer hospital and was refused. This caused severe emotional distress and a panic attack. This facility talks about recovery but does not practice fairness, accountability, or trauma-informed care. Clients deserve honesty and respect. I did not receive either here.

The place is outdated. Shitty staff from a-z .i went in to detox from Alcohol my blood pressure was 200/123 very high and the nurses had know idea what they were doing to help me. So they call the Paramedics to take me to Grant hospital on the ride to the hospital, the E.M.T Said I should of never gone there they have to many problems going on there. So they took me to Grant emergency to get pressures right and Grant said my pressures were 146/91 so they said my pressures were not that bad from with draw from alcohol they didn't understand why they sent me there !! And recommend I go somewhere else they believe there equipment is old and Faulty.so I suggest you not go there. There are many great places to go. Ugh ugh

I don’t know abt any other experiences but mines was back with directions for youth I signed paper insurance was verified. All I need led to do nxt is set an appt. It’s too many phone calls and I full time. I missed the calls. They keep sending papers to my house saying I’m hard to reac but they don’t email neither. I respond by email a lot quicker. Directions for youth they operate like they don’t know how to use email. They got no patience. Every time I tlk to them it seems like I’m getting nowhere or I’m being rushed learn how to email if I don’t answer the phone. I was hung up on the first time and employees they too unprofessional it’s even in there tone of voice. They closed all my cases out. I will open up one again for the third time and this will be closed out too

I have been coming here for a few years now and I love my NP Madison she’s so nice and helpful every time. I have had some issues with a discrepancy between my insurance and what i was billed a few months ago ( i was over charged) and this still hasn’t been solved. At my last appointment i tried to ask the front desk for help and the lady acted as if she couldn’t help me at all nor did she care and she was rude. I’ve also spoken with this same lady on the phone and she’s passive aggressive and rude. Otherwise i love this dr office for primary and obgyn.

Brought a loved one here for help.... She has been thru a lot and needed some direction/help sometimes & when I tried to help her the renta cop told me to basically get out of the bldg bc I'm not a client. The person I was helping will not return if she can't ask for help. Something so simple as compassion/understanding that I'm explaining something to her would a long way. My veiw is the ex user security guard should remember his situation and try not to deter already scared folks away from your program because he feels the exert his menial power... ..... Idiot....... I have encountered numerous awful experiences with this hospital, making it challenging to determine where to commence. Let's initiate with their terrible valet workers. Today, my elderly, handicapped father had a scheduled appointment and the valet drivers take up all the space around the front of the entrance making it difficult for anyone to pick and drop off family members WHO ARE NOT AT ALL MOBILE! I had an tall African-American man walk up to my vehicle and tell me I could not pick my dad and I had to keep driving around, which was entirely ridiculous because I was already at the front of the building not blocking anyone meanwhile a gang of cars are in the front unloading passengers while he’s telling me I could not run and get my dad from the front entrance. This Cleveland clinic does not offer consistent transportation help at the front of the entrance so of course you have to do it all yourself. I can’t explain enough how there’s ALWAYS a negative experience with valet workers at this Cleveland clinic location. I’m sure it has a lot to do with the area but this is still not a reason to always have a difficult time with every visit. I never want to come back to this hospital!!! Maybe they should have the security guard that sits in there Cleveland clinic van parked in the lot crossed the street playing on their phones help transport patients from cars into the building since they aren’t doing anything else aside from playing on their phones. It’s ridiculous. Billionaire hospital company and still can’t afford to have more people working transport and also training their valet workers with proper etiquette and mannerisms to be dealing with the public especially the elderly population. This place is awful when it comes to dealing with non-medical workers. I would never recommend anyone ever waste their time, energy nor sanity dealing with this constant frustration.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in Ohio?
When comparing providers in Ohio, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in Ohio?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in Ohio?
Yes. Mental Health US includes Ohio providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all Ohio providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
