Experienced a walloping from life a few weeks ago, desperately needed to see a therapist to get the intrusive thoughts and depressed thinking abated. Called a dozen or more different offices, no one had availability for weeks, some even months, til I ended up in the emergency room seeking some sort of help—just any professional to talk to.

This past summer, I was required by NJ to go through a DUI educational program for a first offense, slap-on-wrist DUI offense discharged on merit while visiting Delaware first semester of my sophomore year of college 22 years prior. The nation's state DMVs have been integrating into a unified national system and Delaware was requiring I complete a DUI educational program in summer 2024 backdated to that college offense. I chose this counseling agency as it was the closest of a few options provided by Delaware. While things didn't feel right almost right away on the intake interview, after only a few weeks, I abruptly regretted the decision. I was very boisterously, aggressively and inappropriately verbally attacked on completely false grounds, in a group setting no less. At this point, I felt I had made a big mistake choosing this agency. I forced myself to continue because I had already committed a good amount of money and time to the process and naturally was targeting completion. The unprofessional, inappropriate, dishonest, and demeaning treatment I was targeted with continued. To be clear, my experience was only in the DUI program. And to be even clearer, the one week of twenty I attended that there was a different substitute counselor, it went exactly as you'd expect. That counselor was a pleasure to be with, and worked through the meeting 100% appropriately, the hour flew by and it was shocking the extreme difference. Why I was being constantly targeted inappropriately by the primary counselor, I can only speculate but I'll give you a clue based on my experienced and very confident opinion - textbook narcissists shouldn't be counselors. I very much hoped he would let whatever silly game he was playing go and behave appropriately. That did not happen. Many weeks of continued manipulation/targeting and inappropriate counseling occurred, I was and still am in utter disbelief a man can behave, target, and manipulate that way in that role. I felt it my moral obligation to leave this review to allow anyone who feels it may be wise to choose another agency to avoid any risk of this happening to them. God's my witness I would never leave an untrue or misguided review, I've only ever left one negative review on Google along with many 5-star rave reviews - for a steam-cleaning company that was completely out of line ethically the same way as this counseling agency. You can verify that yourself. I must hold the whole agency accountable in this review because the owner condoned and ultimately cosigned everything aforementioned that had happened with zero objective investigation, malpractice in this situation. This was a stressful process in an educational/counseling environment in which it should have been the exact opposite, as evidenced by the single week there was a substitute counselor. To sum it up? I wouldn't use this agency again for any program offered, not only if it was free, but if they paid me many, many times the costs to attend in the first place. Once again, this is almost completely about one particular counselor and how he was completely out of line on a weekly basis in an abuse of power/leverage, evidently sadistic in nature. I wouldn't hire this man for this position in a million years and he'd have been fired yesterday in order to make for a simple, significant upgrade. This man and agency owner should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. I was very close to filing a lawsuit - but it's just not worth the overall commitment and I'd rather have nothing to do with them moving forward. I'll simply practice patience, trust God's plan, and find a far superior agency to complete this program. Take that as you may and best of luck in your search for your service. I'd anticipate they respond to this review and attempt to lie their way out of it at this point, that'd make a lot of sense based on the games played until the very end of my experience. Maybe they won't? It won't change the Truth either way. A 2-man operation, 2 narcissists, the owner covert, the other overt, far better options exist. Choose wisely.

This experience has been the most distressing I have encountered. The psychiatric nurse practitioner assigned to me exhibited extreme aggression and confrontational behavior, displaying an agitated demeanor that was unlike anything I have encountered in my mental health journey. After spending a full day following a list provided by my insurance company, I decided to seek private care to address my needs in a more tranquil and soothing environment. I am seeking a professional who can provide me with answers in a calm and caring manner, rather than someone who confronts and attacks me. This establishment should be avoided, as it has a history of treating patients poorly.

I was in this hospital early January of this year (2025). I can't even express how crappy this place was for me. I'm 15 years old for reference and half of the nurses and staff in the adolescent unit treated me horribly. The only really good thing about this place is the food options and groups. The therapy groups are actually helpful and was related to the kids treatment. Staff acts like they don't care about you and when you're crying or upset they'll just threaten to put you in the quiet room or a 1 to 1. Crying, angry, yelling, or any emotion shown isn't dealt with care and actual professionalism, they stand there, treat you medically but provide no comfort. Honestly I don't even know why I said they treat you medically because they barely do that. I would NEVER recommend this place to any teen or adult. I'm warning parents, please if you have other options don't send your child here if you're asking to have them be hurt even more mentally and have their medication dosed up for no reason.

2013-2015 st claires saved my life. Was I hospitalized multiple times? Yes. One time I was discharged and readmitted within a 48 hour period. That is not St Claire’s fault. Those are the results of lack of effort to their program. The staff at St Claires understood this was a growing process, and it was going to take a lot of time. I enjoyed their presence and vice versa. It was COMFORTABLE to open up to them, despite the uncomfortable topics. BEHAVIORAL health cannot be fixed in a day. or a week. or a year. It takes time to change. Some staff off the top of my head whom I smile when thinking about: CCIS- Jamie, Shelly, Ashley, Bernie, Dr.Shah, MaryAnne Their partial program: Lynne Ables, Dawn, Jason, Judy. If ANY of those people are still there, please bare your soul to them. It is safe.

On January 23, 2026, Ascenda Integrated Health and Becky DiLisciandro contacted my sister, who lives out of state, and disclosed information indicating that emergency behavioral health services were being initiated or considered in relation to me. I did not authorize my sister as an emergency contact. I have no idea how they got her phone number and I ever provide consent for any disclosure of my personal or health-related information. Prior to this disclosure, local law enforcement had already reviewed the underlying report and advised me that it was not threatening in nature. Despite this, Ascenda disclosed information about me to a third party without my authorization and outside of any immediate medical emergency. Ascenda violated the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), specifically 45 C.F.R. §164.502(a), by disclosing my protected health information to an unauthorized third party without my authorization, without a valid emergency exception, and without verification of recipient authority. The individual contacted was not listed as an emergency contact, had no involvement in my care, and resides in another state. No imminent threat existed that would justify disclosure under HIPAA’s emergency provisions. As a result of this unauthorized disclosure, I suffered significant emotional distress and loss of privacy. I have filed a formal complaint with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights. Upon completion of that investigation, I intend to pursue all available civil remedies under applicable state law.

For 4 months I struggled with the decision to leave a review. I really had high hopes since she provided some good advice during our initial sessions, and I was proud of myself for taking a chance with someone I only later realized had 1-star average google reviews. Then came the last minute cancellations & ghosting. If a professional believes that they are not a good fit for you, or vice versa, they should openly communicate that—I’m sure training provides insight on how to do this tactfully. Additionally, if a professional believes they should terminate work with a client for any reason, they should also communicate this. But to ghost someone dealing with mental health issues? To cancel without the option to reschedule & with no additional information? Wow. I’m really thankful I had the mental fortitude to pick up the pieces & get myself together, as there are so many others who would not be able to do so. I was so incredibly disappointed by my experience with this therapist, & would not recommend her to anyone.

The worst rehab in the state. The staff was the most unprofessional staff I ever encountered. They wouldn’t give me my medication that I usually take. They threw away all my medicine when they did my intake. When I explained my concern to the director she was laughing in my face and purposely kept saying my name wrong after correcting her multiple times. The nurses are a joke. The head nurse was extremely rude showed no concern for anyone.Multiple clients told me they received the wrong medication.Do yourself a favor and never step foot in this hell hole.

I was discharged 3/31/2026 and I was told my black coach purse wasn’t on my property sheet. The nurse herself said she saw me walk in with it. Then a woman name Nidia (could be misspelling her name) said they DID see me walk in with my bag and it must have been misplaced and they’re investigating it. I had to call the police and file a report for my own records. If you ask me my bag was stolen. I’ve never had this happen to me at any rehab before. Then a woman name Lauren a recovery coach gave me her number and told me to reach out to her or follow up with john brooks blah blah blah. I texted her and her response was that they’re still investigating. Then my last message never said delivered so I had to send as a text message so i’m assuming she blocked me. I had pink exfoliating gloves that I brought with me as well and those are missing. The nurses are downright rude and from the street (not all of them) One nurse pulled the blinds down as i’m sitting in front of her, and told me to get off “her” line and she with be giving me my meds ……the meds the doctor put in for me. She then proceeds to say “you won’t be getting your medication” I told her I bet I will and guess what? I did. I wrote a grievance on her. Vincent the bald head tech is very rude. They have no manners and don’t know how to deal with people suffering with not only addiction but mental health. He tossed my vape onto the counter, I kindly removed my vape out the box and tossed the box on the counter the same way he did. A patient came out and told me he said “and you not gonna tell her anything about it either. Tracy the “self proclaimed “supervisor is nasty so it makes sense why the rest of the workers are the way that they are. Be very careful of this place. I made a comment about sexual intercourse going on in the facility and counselor Nikki who is useless immediately got defensive because I interrupted her bs gossip with Vincent. This place needs to be investigated. I called the state while I was waiting for a response about my bag. It’s been a week and I still have yet to hear from anyone. Cops told me if they can’t find it they’ll send me a check, can’t believe a word they say!

TERRIBLE! SHOULD NOT BE OPEN FOR BUSINESS!! After 3 months of clean testing I was supposed to get a take home bottle, they claim i came up dirty on the last one needed before getting a bottle. When I said It was impossible that I have not used all the staff try to downplay it it like it's not a big deal. It was only one dirty urine. Not knowing what that could do to someone's recovery. "Dr" haglar refused to order a confirmation test after the initial screening. The whole operation is super shady. Plus they don't even pay their employee on time. Make them wait 2 weeks to get paid, then on holiday weekends make them wait until the next Monday to pay staff. Yall should be ashamed!! GO to spectrum!! It's only 1 mile down communipaw. If you came it it to this one it's absolutely worth the extra time to get to a BETTER, SAFER. MORE RELIABLE PROGRAM. FYI this isn't coming from anger. All this happened about a year ago, it's just genuine concern for others recovery.

I had a great experience in the beginning but this place is trash. I went to the Englewood location for awhile and it’s not the best place to be. Too much drama and there is a liquor right next door (that’s not a great place for people who have an alcoholism problem, and no judgement here). Then I went to the Dumont location which wasn’t any better. When I first enrolled, I received a letter in the mail saying I did not comply when lo and behold the people at Vantage never forwarded my information and almost made my situation worse. Don’t go to this place. Team Management is a great place in Hackensack, NJ. Follow through with them, not Vantage UPDATE! 11/2023 STILL THE ABSOLUTE WORST PLACE. The comment underneath from Vantage is probably just an automated message because they cannot be bothered with anything. They sit there and get paid to answer a phone… anyone with common sense can do that, and common sense is clearly not common. My counselor would not accommodate with my meetings weekly because I finally got a job. Well thank you Mr. Sanchez because at team management, they are WAY BETTER PEOPLE and always on top of their stuff. Not once did a get s letter in the mail saying I failed to comply because at age “forgot and was so sorry for not forwarding the information” when I first started with them. Do not waste your time, insurance, etc on this place. TEAM MANAGEMENT IN HACKENSACK IS THE BEST!!!! Most helpful people in the world. And whoever commented before, please reevaluate yourself. The person I am right now is not the person I was attending. Anyway I am way better, counselors are better at Team Management. PLEASE GO THERE! GET HELP IF YOU NEED!

If I could give less than 1 star I would. I would not recommend this facility to anyone who's child/family member is struggling with mental health. I originally thought I chose the right place to send my daughter, but boy was I wrong. I did not speak to a nurse or doctor her whole stay. Any conversation was held through the case worker and just because they were not in active crisis, it was alright to go ahead and do it. They stopped one med cold turkey without even talking to us, and also upped another med without instruction. Please, do not send your kid here. Advocate and educate yourself on the facilities. New Jersey sucks for Mental Health Aid for the youth.

I went there several years ago. People were having sex everywhere. Hooking up in laundry rooms..etc. That's not my main issue. It was summer time and one of the "techs"..gave me an attitude from the start because I packed shorts and t shirts. I told her it's 100° out and I'm gonna be withdrawaling..what do you expect me to wear? From that point on..she followed me around with her little clipboard..writing me up for things I did NOT do. I was just trying to get better. I actually liked it there besides being harassed by her. The food was the best I've ever had and I've been to top of the notch places. One day they were about to serve lunch and I called into one of the girls rooms to tell her so she didn't miss out on getting something to eat. Well the tech was on my heels with her clipboard..writing me up for going inside her room when I never did. The last straw was when I actually wanted to stay to prolong my recovery. I got called into the office saying I had "contraband" in my room and I had to leave. It was literally MAKEUP. she went through my things and purposely got me kicked out. That could've been life or death for me. I called back a couple years later to come back and they told me I was banned for having contraband. I told them this could be life or death for me if I cant come in. They didn't care. I now wish that I filed a complaint against the tech for harassing me and for whatever reason trying to jeopardize my life. She was a short. Heavy set African American woman. I don't remember her name. But this place should take accountability!

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in New Jersey?
When comparing providers in New Jersey, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in New Jersey?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in New Jersey?
Yes. Mental Health US includes New Jersey providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all New Jersey providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
