I inquired about a potential funding opportunity, and was "helped" by a rude woman. I had no prior information about what the requirements/eligibility rules were, and she came off very dismissive, as if I were to blame. I understand I wasn't eligible, which I found out after the fact, but my call was to learn more about what those eligibility rules were. I didn't appreciate her tone or the way she spoke to me. I wouldn't recommend this place if this is an example of the type of people that work there.

What Genesis counselors and administrators lack in professionalism, they make up for it by their lack of honest communication. This business is clearly modeled to take your insurance money, and true help is not in their paraprofessional skill set or interests. I was remanded to complete a 30 day program, when that goal was successfully met, Genesis became dismissive, unclear with solid treatment plans and then stopped communicating altogether. It's poorly managed, shoddily run and has constant turnover. Shameful business practices given their intended purpose. And if you enjoy your healthcare to be held in confidence, you can assure it won't be.

My daughter is 8 and she goes to the Lawrenceville location to see Mrs. Joan, her therapist. She’s been seeing her for a few weeks now and I can’t express how amazing Ms. Joan has been towards my little girl. Not only does my daughter absolutely adore her, but most importantly, she feels SAFE with her. She makes her feel comfortable and she gives her valuable mental tools to use when coping is needed which has helped a lot. I couldn’t have been luckier to have such an amazing and CARING therapist like Ms. Joan for my baby. She’s not easy to win and she won her over in just 2 weeks. I TOTALLY recommend this therapist. I can’t wait to see how much more my daughter improves while continuing to attend her sessions with Ms. Joan. THANK YOU!!!

I am submitting this formal complaint regarding the inadequate care and repeated scheduling issues I have experienced at your office. Since beginning therapy four months ago with Isabell, I have not had a single consistent appointment or received coping mechanisms to support my treatment. Each attempt to schedule an appointment has been extremely difficult, requiring multiple calls and follow-ups, which should not be the case in a healthcare setting. I requested an in-person appointment, which was scheduled, canceled, and then rescheduled on a day when my therapist is not in the office. This makes no sense, as the original appointment was in-person, yet the reschedule was set on a day that does not allow for that type of session. It has also been explained to me that my therapist is not in-office on Thursdays — so I do not understand why appointments would continue to be scheduled for days she is unavailable. Furthermore, I was given my therapist’s extension but have never been able to reach her through it. This has left me without reliable access to my provider. The lack of organization, follow-through, and patient care I’ve experienced is unacceptable. At this point, it feels as though there is little to no passion for caring for your community, and the service provided has been dismissive at best. I strongly urge your office to do better, as patients deserve reliable access to mental health care. Get rid of the entire staff( therapist, receptionist) .

This place is insane!! My husband and I have been calling for a year now trying to reach this administrator. They lie and say that the consultation is “free” and then charge your insurance anyways. The best part is the billing department is in florida and they never call you back either so there’s no way to even pay these people. Please save yourself the headache. They do not answer the phone when it comes to scheduling appointments.

Hi, my name is Nicole Maher. I’ve been coming to this office for about two years now my original doctor was Dr Wasserman but he retired and now I see Dr. Esther let me tell you this doctor has literally changed my life. I am on the best medication regimen before I was unable to leave my home because My social anxiety is really bad and I’ll tell She helped me so much where I am now able to leave my home comfortably live comfortably sleep comfortably and it’s crazy because I wasn’t even supposed to have her for a doctor Dr. Nunez and I truly believe that’s God because she helped me so much I can’t even put into Words, She told me about my medication. She informed me where I didn’t even know really about my medication and I think she’s the best doctor there. So if anyone needs like a mental health treatment asked for a Dr. ester because I’ll tell you what you’re gonna get the best care and she cares about your mental health And she wants you to be comfortable and stable so I give her 100% thank you so much I appreciate you more than you know!!!!❤️

Some of the staff is outstanding in their work, while others lag behind. Also, the entire establishment is either terribly organized, or there is absolutely no communication between staff; to reschedule my weekly appointment took almost four weeks. I had to keep reminding them that I was trying to reschedule a handful of times, and they still assumed my old time, as if I had never said a thing. Maybe part of their practice is making you FEEL crazy so you think you have to go here. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Either way, this is a good choice if you cannot afford otherwise, but I would recommend looking elsewhere if it's within your budget/insurance ability.

Okay so, I went here 9 minutes before they opened, right after I clocked out of work ( I work overnights). This place is a joke, they say go to them first, I say, go to the hospital. You will get less treatment at this place. The lady that told me where to call to get help with getting medications, stood so far from me as if she was going to catch a disease from me. They wouldn't do medication management because I already see a psychologist. So basically, they are an IOP that claims to be an urgent care. They are nothing of the sorts. Its a bait and switch. Don't waste your time. I have been dealing with mental health and the providers since I was 8-9 years old, I am 37. This place is not somewhere to go with your mental health issues.

From my experience as the relative of an incarcerated person at greystone, its a terrible place. They run it like a prison. the communication is terrible, they rarely return your calls. The result of the lawsuit against the hospital and subsequent settlement, is to make it more strict for patients and to run it like a prison, only so they can avoid being sued. If you have a choice, keep your loved ones out of this terrible place.

Spoke with John, the director of ExtraCare Health Services - what an amazing human! He took great care and effort in providing me with guidance and direction on how to secure optimal care for a family member whose case is rather complex (a multidisciplinary approach of all 3 - psychologic, psychiatric, and neurologic pathways. John expressed that the ExtraCare Counselors may not be what this family member needed - and we appreciated that! He also took the time to hear my concerns and source other options for me, including a return phone call - which he didn't have to do, but did. Not everyone would do that nowadays - really impressed.

If I could put zero stars, I would. I don't normally do reviews but I am so frustrated with this place that I refuse to not share with other potential patients. You should know what you may possibly get yourself into. I don't know about all of the therapists, but I had Linda. Her and the front desk have given me problems that I need therapy and I refuse to go to them because of what has occurred in just 3 weeks. Linda was 17 minutes late to my first appointment (I was doing telemed because I have a baby at home). I didn't say anything because I did not want to be rude, I let it go. She wasn't that great though either. She kept asking the same question that I already answered and she didn't really help me through my thoughts. I said I was having a problem with a family member and she said that I shouldn't let it get to me and to let my husband deal with it. She also did not give me the extra time at the end to make up for being late. I let it all go though, it was just one appointment, I didn't want to start problems, maybe it would be better next time. The next week I call and let them know that I probably won't be late but if anything maybe a couple minutes, but everything should be fine I just didn't want her waiting on the camera thinking I missed an appointment in case I was late. Well she tells me that if I am late I just lose time and still have to pay for it, which is fine since it would have been my fault at that point. I wonder what the excuse was for the week before. Anyway, I end up on the camera 5 minutes before my appointment started. I took screenshots of when I got on, and every minute that she was late. After 15 minutes of her not coming on I called the front desk to tell them to just cancel it if she was going to be late. They put her on the phone with me and she says that she didn't get a notification, and tried to insinuate that I was lying about being early. And then she said well you said you would be late. I said no I said there is a small chance i will be a couple minutes. Not 15. So she was like well we can continue the session, and I said I don't want to pay for a session that will only last 20 minutes by that point. She told me well 20 minutes is better than nothing and if you cancel you will be charged a $30 cancellation fee. I said I was on time, I showed up, she didn't and I have pictures to prove it and she changed her tone quickly. Now I no longer had to pay the fee. Well after seeing how she handled that, I called on Saturday to leave a message to tell them I was cancelling any future appointments with her. Today I called to make sure they got it because I did not trust them. The front desk said she hadn't looked at her voicemails yet and asked if my name was _____ and I said no but I left the voicemail on Saturday. She said I can cancel it but they may still charge me a fee. I said absolutely not, I canceled 4 days in advance and it is indefinitely since my experience with Linda was horrible. They still have a charge in my account for today's appointment. This place is greedy and it disgusts me. If it was something I was late to, or I called last minute, I can understand that, but don't punish me for your own mistakes. I would rather handle my mental health on my own than see these people.

I I am going through a hard time. I reached out to Jewish family services for support per referral called the access center three times and left messages. On my fourth attempt, I finally spoke to somebody who transferred me to a supervisor. I left a message for the supervisor who did not return my call. I called the access center for the fifth time asked to speak to a supervisor. I left a message for another supervisor. Finally, I drove to one of the counseling centers. I was advised to fill out a form and somebody will call me. It’s been three weeks, two supervisors, six phone calls, and an in person visit. The only response I got is “we are very busy.” Exactly what I needed when I’m in a hard spot in my life and I reach out for help only for Jewish family services to tell me they’re too busy to even return my call for help. After all of that I don’t I want your services . if that’s an example of how you serve, keep it to yourself. obviously you are keeping it to yourself. Imagine what it takes for a person to reach out for help only to be told. You’re too busy five phone calls two supervisors and in person visit not like I didn’t try. JFS you should be ashamed

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in New Jersey?
When comparing providers in New Jersey, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in New Jersey?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in New Jersey?
Yes. Mental Health US includes New Jersey providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all New Jersey providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
