This place is a JOKE!!!! You call to make an appointment for a sick child they tell you he cant be seen until 3/4 days later, once they hear you frustrated they try to offer a cancellation just for them to say ooh someone else took it and their next availability still being 3/4 days out. Then 30 mins later a nurse calls OFFERING A CANCELLATION FOR 3:45pm after a rep had already said that wasn’t available due to someone else taking it and I had already came to my job since they couldn’t take us today but now they call me ONCE IM AT WORK that they do have the 3:45pm availability!?!??? Once again making me more frustrated having to explain to my employer what’s going on with this place giving me a run around!!!

This is only the 3rd negative review I've written in 20 years. I tried to become a patient here for medication management. They wanted blood tests and EKG, which I agreed to, with the caveat that they tell me why they need the blood test. They refused to tell me why, claiming I was refusing the tests (which is untrue). Either they don't want to reveal to the patient what the blood tests are for, or they are unable to explain their own practices, or they are unwilling to treat their clients like capable adults. None of these possibilities are good. I'm staying far away from this place, and going somewhere where they are more informed, logical, and where they treat their clients appropriately.

Nicole is the best! Tosha is also wonderful and is very nice to my son. I always feel welcomed here. The reviews have to be outdated because everyone is fantastic there. I did have a problem with Q but I switched to Dr. Davis and she is phenomenal.

Please read this before becoming a patient here: Psychiatric appointments are meant to be 15+ minutes depending on medical need. In reality, my most intensive sessions with Dr. A (Asongtia) averaged approximately 5 minutes, according to my logs. During my scheduled appointment times, Dr. A likely routinely double- and triple-booked Medicaid patients within the same few minute period, which directly resulted in these extremely short visits. Five-minute encounters do not allow a meaningful opportunity to discuss symptoms, concerns, treatment options, or medication side effects. Regardless of billing justification, this visit length does not support safe or comprehensive psychiatric care. Care felt rushed and disorganized. Medication side effects were not discussed during visits. I only learned about them after independently requesting a medication fact sheet from my pharmacist. For psychiatric medications, this falls way below acceptable standards of patient education and informed consent. Dr. A prescribed high-dose medications that were ineffective, and at points damaging for me. After this initial failure, I independently reviewed evidence-based medicine alternatives and brought this information to my next monthly follow-up appointment, which was my first meeting in the 5 months i was with her to reach 10 minutes in length. Instead of engaging in a professional, collaborative discussion, I was spoken to in a condescending and dismissive manner. My efforts to participate in my own care were inaccurately characterized as “using Google,” which was both inappropriate and untrue. To clarify the response I received: I did not request medication “on demand” or ask for a specific prescription. I requested time for discussion after an ineffective treatment. The medications I asked to discuss (Vyvanse and guanfacine) are well-established widely used options with low abuse potential. Reframing a request for shared decision-making as a demand is a manipulative misrepresentation of what happened. This environment did not feel focused, attentive, or safe. I have ADHD and anxiety, and this experience was discouraging enough that it nearly caused me to abandon treatment altogether. Patients with more severe psychiatric conditions may be especially vulnerable in this setting where time, respect, and dialogue are lacking. In contrast, the receptionist consistently showed professionalism, knowledge, and responsiveness. She appears to be the primary reason this practice functions in my opinion. I would not recommend this provider unless no other options are available. Montgomery County has multiple Medicaid accepting psychiatrists who provide attentive, respectful care. Teaching clinics with UMD and other DC universities offer full length visits, supervision, and genuine patient engagement, all of which were absent here. I am transferring my care and strongly encourage others to consider doing the same. Average visit length: approximately 4 minutes and 30 seconds. I would also like to mention this experience has given me billing compliance questions, as 5 minutes appointments are not typically reimbursed and our meetings were all of low complexity that do not require outside-of-meeting review.

My name is Sarah Childs. This review is for Ms. Hernandez that works the front desk. She is very helpful. I was supposed to do an intake there. I went through several of people that told me I had to come to the office to do it. Wrong. Ms. Hernandez sent me the paperwork to my phone and walked me through the intake process step by step. I did not have to come to the for intake which is far from my home in Laurel, MD. Its was less stressful for me. I'm really not big on doing reviews but I wanted to do this one because sometimes it is easier to do things from your phone verses then coming out. Ms. Hernandez was very patient with me that goes a long way also. When I came to the office for my long four and a hour assessment she gave me snacks and water to help me get through it. She definitely deserves this 5 star review. Thank you!

This business has several mini vans with their business name plastered on the sides and back. You would think this would warrant their drivers to drive responsibly and not cut drivers off, speed and run blatant red lights. Not yellow lights turning red, but RED RED lights. Unsafe and for this reason I wouldn’t dare do business with them. Lack of professionalism on the road, can only imagine what they do in office.

I called to explicitly ask if I could get an appointment with a psychiatrist that would evaluate whether or not I have ADHD and they said yes. I confirmed this specifically because many say they don’t diagnose. I went in and the psychiatrist didn’t make me feel comfortable at all and asked dozens of question only for him to tell me that he can’t diagnose me because I’m a high-performing woman. I wasted my time for them to not be able to provide something they explicitly said they would. This appointment costed hundreds of dollars just to make me uncomfortable and waste my time. That’s one thing and I was over that but weeks before my appointment, they called to take my copayment over the phone. I thought it was weird but I gave them my credit card information. Now they’ve been spamming me non-stop for an extra $10 to the copay they requested of me! Now they’re threatening to send me to collections. What the heck?

I am honestly disgusted with the care I received here. I was here for only 2 days so I can't even imagine how awful it would be for everyone there for the full stay. I told them how I need a higher level of care for my eating disorder because it was very bad and out of control and mental health treatment was not going to be enough for me. I explained how I needed to go somewhere that specializes in eating disorders. They were just fine with transferring me to their eating disorder program. Then they find out my insurance doesnt cover their ED program. I said I know a place that my insurance covers. They said I can stay there and I'll be fine and need to prove I have an eating disorder pretty much. Well, they said I "need to show them that I'm eligible for an eating disorder program" I was diagnosed with severe anorexia. Like, what more do they want? And they were fine sending me to ED treatment till they found out that It wouldn't be their ED program. They were only saying it because they didn't want me to leave them because one less patient means less money for them. This place only cares about money and its sickening. Like, it makes me physically sick to think about how people can have such little empathy

Deserves 0 stars. The main lady who runs it is the opposite of empathetic and should not be in the mental health field. She talks over you, polices your language around YOUR feelings, invalidates your experiences, invalidates the expertise of your past therapists medical opinions yet refuses to even contact your current therapist - I could go on. Do yourself a favor and find someone else - ANYONE else.

I haven't ever anything good about this hospital but I must disagree. I recently broke my hip and that's where my journey. From the time EMS in Frostburg arrived I received great care. Yes once I arrived at the hospital slowed down and I spent my first in an ER on one of those beds in the hallway. It's not their fault they were busy. Everyone in the ER were Great. Then I was moved to the 5th floor in an observation room and once again everyone was great. So I wanted to make sure that people know everything that I heard about this hospital was completely wrong. So I wanted to tell each and every person that I dealt with they were great and had a splendid stay.

Writing this very frustrated with ABH. My therapist was 30mins late to first appointment. Made the second one from his car at his son's football game bc he forgot about scheduling appointment. 4th appointment was cancelled maybe an hour before our scheduled time. And today another no show. I was very clear about wanting a regular time slot weekly that was never received, always a different time and different day. I was seeking help with anxiety, stresses and concerns about career choices and money. I feel like I spent hundreds of dollars that I didn't want to spend in an attempt to prioritize my mental health; it is taking advantage of people in crisis. I feel robbed and am ultimately more anxious and frustrated with my choices. The opposite of why I saught out ABH. I will be looking elsewhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in Maryland?
When comparing providers in Maryland, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in Maryland?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in Maryland?
Yes. Mental Health US includes Maryland providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all Maryland providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
