I've had a couple experiences that could be described as not perfect but I know that isn't typical. One of the two was nobodies fault. The Dr and the rest of the staff are usually as helpful as they can be.

No one was there besides the doctor not even receptionists. Extremely difficult to find, diagnosed me first appointment in under an hour and then proceeded to try to convince me to go to a 6 month long treatment program that would “heal and get rid of” my “borderline personality disorder” that he diagnosed so quickly. This place is a scam.

They stole 300 dollars from me after seeking counciling suggested by my lawyer. I went for an appointment to discuss what I needed from them for court after 2 months of trying to get an appointment. first day I came in i paid them 300 dollars cash for a 15 min talk with a counselor explaining what I needed from them. She was in board as soon as I told them I was paying cash and I made an appointment. later on that week I received a letter in the mail saying I was discharged with no explanation and they said I would recieve 200 dollars back and when I never seen any money I called and called with no return calls. Thieves in my opinion.

This place was really able to help me when I had a break down a few years back after my dad died. Its not a bad place if you follow the rules and focus on your treatment. If you don't and act up and fight others or staff you get put in seclusion, then they get out and leave bad ratings on the hospital and staff that tried to help them 🙄.

I’ve been a patient here since 2021. My whole family & I are seen many times throughout the year. Especially me thanks to the havoc wreaked by Neurological Lyme Disease, among other things. (Please check for ticks & take any bites or strange symptoms seriously!!!) All of us see Dr. Eric Morris, though my youngest will see Dr. Rebecca Payne onas well, who specializes in pediatrics. I have nothing but good things to say & am surprised by the other reviews. I’ve never felt uncomfortable or unwelcome & my provider takes me seriously. No, I don’t always get an immediate email or call back, but any time I need help, they listen. They work with me to coordinate my family’s care. My husband’s MANY blood pressure meds refills? Done without hassle. My kid has an emergency? We’re in. Health crisis due to yet another tick bite? They’re on it 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Ignoring that, my husband had a procedure at a local hospital that was played down by the specialists & nurses there to be completely painless - it never is & this one certainly wasn’t. He was treated like garbage after his procedure, his pain ignored. He was so miserable & could barely speak or move with the pain. I didn’t want to take him back to the hospital just for a repeat. So I called this office & even though Dr. Eric was off that day, he still called us back within a few hours & made sure he was taken care of. He is also the only doctor that’s treated me like a human in the state of Maine & is willing to fight for us to get the tests, care, or referrals we need every single time. Did I mention he always wears the coolest socks? My kids love that. Ok, I also get a kick out of it. (Pun intended) But ya know what? I’ve only had one nurse/staff member in nearly 5 years that was rude (or rather… gave off some real judgey vibes) & I actually never saw them ever again. Everyone is welcome here, no matter your needs. All my nurses & office staff are always so fun, kind, & helpful. Never judgmental! I love their new building updates & child/sensory friendly waiting room. I also love that they don’t turn people away for treatment no matter their ability to pay, they offer social services, & can even send a nurse to my home when needed. As a special needs person with a medically needy family, I’m so grateful for all of it. And I KNOW these guys are overworked, underpaid, & probably vastly under-appreciated. I’d give them massive pay raises & send them all on vacations if I could. But alas, I am poor, so this review will have to do. Either way, highly recommend HFHC if you’re looking for quality care, from people who actually care. Thanks Dr. Eric & team!

Staff was kind but I left because I did not feel safe in this neighborhood. Was driven 2 hours from Rockland by Midcoast connection transport, was dropped off in Lunch time and was told to wait outside. Luckily my husband accompanied me on this trip because me as a female would have probably been trafficked by now. Homeless people with mental illness or on drugs on the sidewalk, sketchy cars stopping and giving them stuff and telling the to violently shut up. Me and my husband stood out and we were being watched. It was the longest 20 minutes of our lives in “the hood”. The answering service should definitely warn people about the area. ITS NOT SAFE, especially for a woman like myself. Why isn’t there a safety warning??

Experiences here are a mixed bag, but I stuck it through and have no complaints about my therapists -- they're fantastic. I will deduct one star for a passive-aggressive child therapist whose gender-biased opinions (which could be seen as an attempt to drive a wedge in a family) are better off left unsaid in front of their patients. No tact or professionalism.

I go by here often, when I am visiting again and it open, I will attempt to do full review at that time

I attended this office once. Made a point in that meeting that a lot of my issues have to do with finances. The only follow up I got in the following weeks was updates for my bills… I did not hear from any of the staff. Now I have received a letter that I was discharged for “noncompliance”… every appointment I missed I put a note saying I couldn’t afford it. Never got any communication about that just another bill for the following appointment. This is just a money grab. Just like every other American healthcare building. Don’t come here if you’re a danger to yourself, it will just further the feelings of insignificance.

Dr. Thaddeus Shattuck is the most insensitive, unprofessional psychiatrist that I’ve ever had the displeasure of seeing. Do not recommend. Also, google Dr. Jennifer Graham before scheduling, she’s had lawsuits filed against her by patients

Terrible company. Horribly rude front managerial staff. High turn around rate because of lack of mental health help. This is the only mental health facility where mental health is the most stigmatized. Lack of employees and therapists. Therapists are allowed to show up thirty minutes late to an appointment while the client gets in trouble. Terrible pay. Overall I will never work or receive mental health help from this company ever again. Enter at your own risk.

Their "mental health care" is a joke. I went to them over three years ago and was put on two different meds that wound up giving me a seizure disorder, which was diagnosed by a neurologist.

Frequently Asked Questions
- How should I compare mental health providers in Maine?
- When comparing providers in Maine, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
- What should I ask before contacting a provider in Maine?
- Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
- Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
- No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
- Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in Maine?
- Yes. Mental Health US includes Maine providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
- What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
- If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all Maine providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
