me personally I had a HORRIBLE experience here and would NEVER suggest someone sending their children here. But currently my boyfriend is in there and reading these reviews is making me think he’ll just come back worse. Please don’t send your kids here if you want them to get actual help (ps. Harsha was a lot more helpful in my opinion)

I've never asked anything from the VA for 33 years, and when I do...its a nightmare at the New Albany Indiana clinic. I've had Dr. B. stop my medications, which are only blood pressure and cardevilol if you've had a light stroke or are prone to all because I haven't seen her in some time. Don't even go to the Psychiatric department, Miss/ Mrs. RS is horrible. If you can't go to Zorn Avenue, forget it. Zorn Avenue treats you like a soldier with respect, this annex. NOPE!

My therapist is absolutely fantastic, but I got better insurance than state insurance and apparently none of them take the better insurance, So for me to speak to my therapist, I would have to pay out of pocket and get no discount even though I just went through the most traumatic experience of my life. I'm absolutely disgusted that the mental health, or health care system in this country is so broken that they can't offer some sort of rectification. But instead they were trying to transfer me to a different therapist that takes my insurance and I've been with my therapist for almost 2 years, why on earth would I want to start over? Absolutely disgusted.

Do not have a single good thing to say about this place. My daughter went there due to self harm ideations and sever anxiety. They bullied her the entire time saying they “over heard her saying she was just board that’s why she was there” which was wrongfully out of context according to my daughter and several of the girls she was in there with yes they kept contact outside of the hospital. Next they falsely accused my daughter of bullying she’s never bullied anything a day in her life she laughed at a funny situation and claimed she laughed at someone, harassed her with PA about bullying didn’t give her a second of down time forcing her to do the pa and claiming she wouldn’t go home if she didn’t do it. We told her to advocate for herself and even called up there to gripe about the situation she’s there to rest her mind and try to straighten herself out not be falsely accused feel bullied and harassed and stressed and threatened. When her step mom called up there on request of me and her mother as she’s got a degree minoring in psychology and a second one in health care admin and she’s a pharm tech she has all the knowledges needed to understand most of this vs we don’t the social worker Emily refuses to call her back called her mom (unknowing all calls to and from the phones in our house are recorded and her mom already heard the whole voice mail) and twisted everything the step mom said. The mom was told one thing and we were always told another and it was NEVER the same story which of course me and her mom saw after sharing phone call recordings. My daughter in the week she was there or a little over she was 100% more distressed from the harassment and bullying and the facility was trying hard to put one parent against the other while hurting our daughter more and then telling her they wouldn’t do anything with meds tho she asked for a little help so she was able to take the edge off and use her coping skills as she was anxious walking up at a 10 and was too overwhelmed to sue coping skills properly and they told her she didn’t measure up to their image of trying and refused. I would NOT recommend and just so you know if you complain they tell you to call them with your experience and then write notes of how rude and non compliant and it’s really not even worth it as nothing is done about it in their facility they just cover their butts with excuses. But I do find people need to hear the Horst truth about these places who are supposed to be helping our children and are traumatizing them further.

I was a patient there for 6 months in 2018 and the therapist I had, Amy, Crossed many boundaries and became friends with my mom while I was a patient. Patient confidentiality was thrown out the window and there was a conflict of interest. I never felt safe enough to be fully opening therapy as it was all being reported back to my mother and Amy would always take her side.

I went here 2 years ago and had a mixed experience. Some of the staff were just on their phones the whole time and kids would hurt each other and they didn’t care. They only let us outside once and we were bored out of our minds. There was a couple good employees, however. I can remember symphony and another one but I can’t remember her name. I would recommend a better facility.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! If you need to get mental health services, especially if you have a minor in crisis, take the drive to Terre Haute. Unprofessional is an UNDERSTATEMENT. Communication is not even an option. They don't do thier jobs, they try and cover up their incompetentence with blame shifting or just outright lies.

Terrible moral compass and no integrity. I applied in the spring, went thru all the hurdles, and they told me they wanted a felony charge dropped to start working. I did just that over the summer (no felonies) and they sent me an offer letter after another interview in the fall. I had to go thru all the hurdles of a drug test physical etc a second time and they promised me I could start work.

I used to go to Cummins during Highschool. I had a life skills counselor who was genuinely one of the best. They said I needed a new counselor because I was transferring to an alternative school for 1 semester. I communicated with him outside of counseling and he told me that he goes to my alternative school for some other kids. I recently did a reintake as of 2025. No shade, but I definitely think they try to push some things even after I say No to it more than twice. I told them I wanted to do virtual IOT, but I haven't been told anything on how to join. They said I would start May 19 which is today, but haven't had any directions on how to join? I'll change my Review for worse or better depending how my next few appointments go. I did have a bad experience with them last time cause they removed me from cummins while I was struggling with housing. I missed only 2 appointments and I got a letter way after the deadline to call them.

Look elsewhere for your mental healthcare needs. I was taking my kid here for a couple of years and there were always some inconvenient errors (like not billing us for months and just letting us believe that insurance covered it, then springing a massive thousand-dollar bill on us for a whole string of past appointments), but now they’ve reached a whole new low. They canceled three of my kid’s appointments without any notice (we took off work/school and showed up for nothing) then they explained that his therapist simply decided not to work that day of the week anymore.

Shoutout to my 6232 building gang back in 2013. I can’t remember everyone’s names, but from the staff members who tried their best to connect with me on common interests at the time, to the fellow kids who helped contribute towards my personal growth more than anytime else in my life…. Thank you. I would buy y’all a pint now if I was ever allowed to share my contact info with you back then lol. Other buildings lost utensil privileges but we never did 🤪 As for the system? Yeah it sucks. I was “restrained” at 12 by a 300+lbs women who sat on my chest. I genuinely could not breathe. She told me “if you could breathe, you wouldn’t be able to talk”. A minute later she got up and brushed off my hyperventilating from suddenly being able to breathe again. Fun fact : you call still let out a few words while being choked. You still have air in your lungs, after all. I guess it was a mistake to waste my last bit of air on telling her she was choking me. She was the administrator for the building too! I get it, it’s rough here. During my stay a large 17yr old attacked another kid with a pen and it took three big male staff to keep him from getting to this other kid. The cafeteria frequently had groups of kids not allowed to use cutlery because of “incidents”. But you know what doesn’t help kids with severe mental diagnosis’s? Stuffing god down their throat with REQUIRED Sunday school. Even then people sent to preach to us openly told us about how it’s just a requirement from this catholic school. Therapists missed my now known adhd diagnosis and chalked me up under a vague and now-defunct autism diagnosis and despite weekly visits I never got a step closer towards understanding my mental state until I left here. The only benefit this school had outside of the *independent* good staff was that it taught me what life would be like if I didn’t “act good”. Which was a fair lesson to be honest, but they did absolutely nothing to actually accelerate the process of me dealing with my own demons, so to speak.

I have had so many appointments where the provider does not show up or even call. I was told today my provider was running late and would call me later. I waited 3 hours until the place closed and no call. This has affected my mental health negatively and I am in a depression now and feel at loss.

Michelle at Harsha Behavioral Center has been amazing through this tough time with my 16yr old son. She has guided me through this process, and is helping getting my son the long term treatment that he needs. She went above and beyond to communicate with me, working with my schedule, transportation needs etc. Any hurdle we have had she has helped us overcome it. We are still currently working with Harsha Behavioral Center until the goal is met to reach his long term needs. He always talks about how nice everyone is at Harsha, and how safe he feels there. The help we received, and help with follow up care again means so much. Thank you Harsha Behavioral Center, and special thank you to Michelle.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in Indiana?
When comparing providers in Indiana, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in Indiana?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in Indiana?
Yes. Mental Health US includes Indiana providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all Indiana providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
