It's very easy to write a review and leave 1star but very few people want to take the time and give credit where it's due.

Beware of the cost. It is not clearly stated upfront. They will tell you what they need to in order to get you in the plane. The use “Patient Brokers” who get referral fees for placing clients in the facility. It’s about $5,000 per day to be there. Plus, you will be charged $5,000 to go to the ER as soon as you get there to get medically cleared. And random UAs are $5,500 a piece. I was encouraged to get a sponsor and go to meetings with him, which I did. random UAs administered when I returned (twice) charged $5,500 each Beware. It’s a scam. Don’t believe the “yea, your insurance covers you. You’ll only be required to pay your deductible” the patient brokers tell you web you call the random 800 number to get help. I have talked to several fellow clients and we all got the same or very similar version of things before, during and after four stays. Invoices in the 10s of thousands.

I went here at some point. When I went it was an incredible and safe environment. I was given an incredible amount of freedom in terms of gender / sexuality expression and everyone including other clients were super supportive. What I liked specifically was this organization assigns each client a coach, and a therapist. The coach session is more goal oriented for self growth and improvement in areas like careers, academic's, and things of that nature. The therapist is more oriented towards mood and encouragement, and being there for your ranting ( a traditional therapist role). I met with both once a week, and felt that it was adequate one on one time. Though the therapist and the coach have slightly seperate objectives, depending on how the client feels/ wants, they can be interchangeable and will work with the client with how they feel in the moment. Often times I had very therapeutic moments with my coach, often times I had very goal oriented moments with my therapist etc. Other staff members were very professional but most importantly nice and understanding. This program offers a wide range of activities and sessions. There is incredibly peaceful yoga, the yoga instructor is (assuming they still work there) very meditative, and always caters to the clients wants. All of the clinical workers I noticed to be highly trained and nice. Additionally there was a gender specific group, they even had a dietary group that was oriented towards healthy food groups, grocery shopping/ meal planning strategies. In every field, in every group (cognitive behavioral therapy was the only exception that I found miserably boring, but i think that would have been the case anywhere on the planet and had nothing to do with the staff teaching the necessary materials), in every session, I felt supported and heard. Although I didn't pay for it, if I knew my child was in need of intensive therapeutic care for one reason or another, I would sleep happily and comfortably if i knew my kid was in the same comforting environment The Dorm provided me when I went.

I've been a Patient at MedStar BEHAVIORAL Health since 2013 I love my Psychiatrist and had her since 2014. I'm always worried about her leaving or having to see another Psychiatrist. Sometimes I feel 6 weeks. Is a good space between visits. But when there is a need to make contact between that 6-8 week appointment I feel lost and afraid that I might react on an impulsive thought or decision, I feel helpless and hopeless Because I can't talk to my Dr. or if I reach out through the Patient Portal, I don't get a response until the urgency has passed and I have already acted or they tell you to go to Urgent Care or call 911. NO THANKS. I might Not Want to get SHOT DURING MY CRISIS. I want my Psychiatrist who knows me very well. Dr. FISHMAN

Scheduling staff did not tell me that my insurance was not going to cover the service. Paid out of pocket since I already had set this appointment 2 months earlier and taken off of work. Staff did the minimum testing for what I came in for. Felt doctor was inexperienced, after a follow up call, I was told to take my results and find another doctor. No one was rude, at least.

I really don't know what to say about these guys. Case management services in DC already have a really bum rap, and I intentionally looked for a place with high reviews to try and get myself together. As Mr. Garrity put it, these guys, especially Norbert, are really terrible at being places they say they will be. And being homeless or whatever, if I miss an appointment they will call me non compliant or not serious, but when they do it, suddenly I get lied to like some type of imbecile. The one therapist in particular, was really shitty and would miss appointments like he was Tony Romo catching a ball. I ain't saying you got to go to a street corner like Mr. Garrity, but you probably need to try and look elsewhere for proper treatment.

Very unusual practice patterns. I had a free consultation and was told by the therapist it seems like we would be a good match. I was then scheduled for an official intake visit, which was charged, provided with a recurrent appointment time, and scheduled for a follow up appointment only to then be told at my second paid appointment that the therapist did not think we were a good fit. The therapist could not provide a concrete explanation, provided conflicting information, couldnt articulate a specific reason and kept saying “after discussing with my supervisor” that she didnt feel she could proceed to take me as a client. The appointment was cut short and then I was charged the full amount. Frankly it was shocking; I have never encountered such unprofessionalism in the mental health setting. It seems from another review that this may be a pattern. It was just overall strange and made what can already be a stigmatizing process feel more stressful. They were not transparent about their process. Be prepared to pay for multiple appointments in which no care is provisioned only to be turned away.

I have been at Good Hope Institute for almost 6 years, and in my opinion it's no better and no worse than any other methadone maintenance program. I've been on methadone maintenance for over 30 years and have been at many different facilities, so I believe I know a good one from a bad one. At GHI, you get from it what you put into it. If you want to get clean and stay clean you can; if you want maintenance you can do that, or you can detox. No one is getting rich from keeping someone on the program who doesn't want to be there. One thing you cannot do there is drift along continuing to get high and drinking methadone, and you cannot come in with a sense of entitlement or a nasty attitude and expect people to jump over hoops to do what you want. With all the addicts they're dealing with, and the turnover lately in staff yes, things can sometimes move a little slower than we'd like, but no where on earth are you going to get all your desires instantly! Sometimes you have to be patient, and this program is no different.
