I wouldn’t really know where to begin.. I spent years trying to get sober. This place gave me the time and space to figure it out. They housed me and spent 7 months with me helping me learn how to beat my addictions. Darrell taught me faith, humility, and how to let go of fear. That man is a hero and a Legend in the city of LA, a real preacher. He never stopped checking in on me or believing in me, will always be a father figure to me. Sophie taught me how to grieve and how to find strength in vulnerability.. And how to let go of a lot of walls. Brigitte taught me about trauma, how my childhood affected me/inner child work, attachment styles, and helped me take a real hard deep look at my shame, my behavior and my attitude. She also helped me find a life path. I’ve had over 6 therapists in my life, and she’s the only one that’s ever got through to me. Chris showed me what real friendship could look like when you take off all the masks, and how to be yourself. Jane is special, her positivity and kindness always helped me in the hard days. But most importantly this place taught me that it was me who showed up and me who put the work in.. They taught me what self-worth is and self-esteem is. When I showed up I hated myself, and now I have belief in myself. I’m not the same person I was 7 months ago, and I am sober.

My experience with Evolve was mixed. While the administrative process was chaotic & poorly managed by Margaret Gutgsell, the nurse, Alexandra Munoz, & the staff members, Kristen, Sasha, Emily, Taylor, Kaitlynn, & Meagan, were exceptional. I also want to point out that the therapy practices, outings, & coping mechanisms my loved one experienced & learned while at La Mesa made such a difference. He became a leader among his peers & has shown true growth & change since this experience. Alexandra went above & beyond, providing comfort & care to my loved one, making me feel at ease during a difficult time. However, the admission process was a nightmare, with no nurse or clinical director available when we arrived. Thank God, Alexandra took the time to call me & go over my concerns. Despite her being absent because Evolve couldn't wait until she was on site to admit him, she took the time to assess him virtually with her team & went over medication & care instructions that were vital to his post-op care until another nurse could arrive. It brought me peace of mind. Anytime I felt anxious I was reassured knowing she was taking care of him. Even when he got sick and went to urgent care, she kept me updated & made sure to tell the staff & urgent care to call me for instructions. She was the nurse but I was mom. She made me feel like my voice & my loved one mattered. The food situation was also troubling, with the La Mesa house lacking proper groceries. The discharge process was equally disorganized, with a lack of communication & coordination. His therapist went home sick. No one called me to reschedule the second of two family sessions to establish a home contract. Finally, the morning I picked him up we were able to do the second session with Kristen. Margaret should have handled the schedule & called me but she flaked & didn't follow through with his assessment meeting for his aftercare so that clinic had to reach out to finish it. It was a mess. Despite these issues, the dedication of staff members like Alexandra, Kristen, Sasha, Emily, Taylor, Kaitlynn, & Meagan and the positive impact they had on my loved one, are truly commendable. Alexandra's kindness & commitment made a significant difference, & my loved one now aspires to become an addiction counselor for teens. Evolve needs to address its administrative shortcomings, but the incredible efforts of its staff should not go unnoticed. Thank you, Alexandra, for your unwavering support & care. My loved one said that Emily got him out of his comfort zone & was someone he could talk to and super kind. He said that Taylor treated the clients like people not patients & was someone he could talk to. He said Kaitlynn cared about the clients & made sure they got the best. He said Meagan was real & also treated the clients like they were people not patients; & Alexandra made sure they got the best, made him laugh, and treated him like her own child. He said Indie was rude & made mean comments to another male client in the home with him. He said Simone was awkward, often speaking in a condescending tone to them or when they would tell her how another staff member handled something thank them for telling her how to do her job. He said Justin had an attitude towards clients & would make it a big deal if they had an issue or something they wanted. This appauled me. That child who Indie made mean comments to's parents trust Evolve. Do better. Seriously? If you can't show respect to clients find another career path. Margaret, Indie, Simone, & Justin need training. I am highly impressed with Alexandra, Emily, Taylor, Kaitlynn, & Meagan. I appreciate Brandon who stayed with my loved one at urgent care & made sure he got to call me & get some food, Dejah who was an appreciated sounding board while I voiced my frustration with Margaret dropping the ball with our therapy session & the assessment appointment for his aftercare, the therapists, Sasha & Kristen, Alejandrina who helped with his initial assessment, & Emily who helped me coordinate his aftercare.

From day one, the techs made me feel welcomed, supported, and comfortable. What stood out most to me was the apartment staff and technicians. Their patience, encouragement, and ability to genuinely connect with people made a massive impact on me personally. They created an environment that felt safe, supportive, and focused on helping people rebuild confidence while transitioning back into everyday life. The level of freedom, trust, and respect they gave clients really stood out to me. At no point did I feel talked down to or treated like a number. The staff treated people with patience, understanding, and professionalism, while still holding a supportive structure that encouraged real growth and reintegration back into society. You can tell they genuinely care about every individual who walks through the doors, and that level of compassion does not go unnoticed.

There no words to describe the absolute 10/10 quality of this place. The location is stunning. It is clean, food is fantastic, and the atmosphere is amazing. Beyond that, this staff is truly the best in the world. They treat their clients like family and everyone is invested in the healing process from start to finish. Every single staff member (including the owner, the director, the therapist, the nurses, the techs) are simply top notch. They changed my life in a way I cannot describe. Since arriving home, I am still being cared for by messages and calls. 💕. If you choose this center, you are giving yourself the greatest gift. It will not disappoint! I gained an entire loving family (staff and my fellowship of clients) just in my stay and I truly did not want to leave!!!

Crescent Moon Recovery holds a special place in my heart because it helped my girlfriend overcome her addiction when she needed it the most. Her journey to recovery was not an easy one, but this facility became her guiding light. The connection she formed with the staff was nothing short of remarkable. They provided her with constant support, and their genuine care made all the difference. It wasn't just about treatment; it was about forming a meaningful bond that helped her heal. The facility itself was not only beautiful on the inside but also surrounded by the serene beauty of the beach. This environment played a crucial role in her recovery, offering peace and tranquility during a challenging time. Today, I couldn't be prouder of her. She has not only overcome her addiction but has also found success in her life. This transformation wouldn't have been possible without the incredible support she received at Crescent Moon Recovery. It's a place that holds a special place in our hearts, and we will forever be grateful for the hope and healing it provided. Thank you, Crescent Moon Recovery, for helping my girlfriend find her way back to happiness and success.

It is my pleasure to leave a 5 star review to Buckeye Recovery. My grandson has been to many recovery centers through the years with NO success. Going to the Ohio House has been nothing short of a miracle. He has been there for 1 1/2 years and the transformation has been Amazing. The staff, counselors and programs are wonderful. I do have to say that Cory, the house manager has been the key to his success. He literally saved his life through his wisdom and compassion. We were pretty much done with the years of drugs and chaos. He is now 1 1/2 years drug free and has been working for a year at a job he loves. We are forever grateful to him. He also was always available to communicate with us to help him along the way. Thank you all again

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in California?
When comparing providers in California, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in California?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in California?
Yes. Mental Health US includes California providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all California providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
