I was there for 9 months, I procrastinated and didn't comply with the program so most of the time being there was a waste. The staff was great no a single bad one. Even though I didn't comply with the program I matured and my behaviors are way better than before.

I had one on one with Erin and Bipolar group that Erin facilitated. In January I was trying to get in the Mental Health Unit of Providence Hospital. I had been in bad shape for three weeks. In group Erin said she would get with Stephanie Chen, my medication Dr, to work together to get me into the hospital. The very next day when I was getting suicidal Erin decided she didn’t want to be my one on one dr any longer. She chose the worst day possible to tell me this. She should have waited till I was balanced again to tell me. I kept telling her that I couldn’t believe she was telling me that when I was feeling so vulnerable. She kept talking to me about it.I didn’t have any contact with her after that.

Akeela is where the "afflicted" do the "inflicting". Hands down the most "unhealthy" environment I have ever lived in. Decisions made on staffs behalf from treatment team are "indelible". Traumatized & "ill advised" I graduated their program on my own volition, no drug charges, no charges at all whatsoever and went into the transitional housing afterward. It gave me a leg up in terms of finding a good job so there was some good to all of it. However, paying $500 a month for a run down apartment infested with a colony of mice with dead mice under furniture, sink, scratching in the walls at night. Woke up with mouse feces next to my head on my pillow one morning. Putting those kinds of stressors on someone right out the gate is Hardly, what I would classify a "thriving" environment for someone fresh out of rehab. It represents "death" quite literally. May God bless those whom find themselves in such circumstances. If "Akeela" is the best you got Alaska, you need to step your game up. Avoid at all costs, I barely made it out of that death trap. Treatment centers like this are why your children are dying at unprecedented rates. Their treatments are akin to purchasing bottled water from Flint, Michigan. "Understaffed" "undertrained" "underpaid" - that's the name of the "profit" game. Behavioral modification does nothing for the individual if the behavior of society isn't modified as well. They push "Accountability" but they're not holding themselves "accountable" and they are not fully "accounting" for anything. I will say this though, I do see a lot of "potential" for a treatment center like this if their criteria was "changed" - as it stands, with their "counteractive" benching system & negligent treament team personnel the necessary change is not likely.

We are so grateful for Orion! They have helped our daughter with her medications, so she is so much happier. The providers work together to come up with solutions. We have online meetings with them, but they are friendly, caring, and very understanding of our situation .I would highly recommend Orion.

I do not recommend this place. Especially if you want to change your life for the better. Not only do they not care about you or how you feel about things, they don’t keep anything you say private. They will report you to OCS, they will tell all. Even if you are going there to fix your wrong doings, even if you go there to change what you’re doing. The whole point of this program is to help change people’s lives and get them off drugs and back on track to do good. The past is the past, everyday is a new day and they damn sure don’t look at it that way. Sorry not sorry for writing this review. I have no email to send a complaint to. Do not go to this place. They will completely destroy your life.

I started at wisdom traditions for outpatient therapy, I liked all of my peers in my group but my personal counselor not so much. Communication was very poor on there end, so I eventually quit attending the program and asked my PO if I can attend elsewhere due to the issues I had. Wisdom placed me with a counselor named Kyoko, who I could barely understand most of the time, everytime we spoke I could tell she truly didn’t care for me but was rather just judging me. The other counselors were okay but unfortunately I never got to do a one on one meeting with any of them. But Overall the place is great, you can get out of it as much as you put into it.

Was referred here for PCP. Am on a schedule five nerve pain med. I have a herniated disc and can’t hold my child or work without the medication. Myra saw me for initial appt and all was well and she said they would take good care of me. Friday I called for a refill and was denied and told I had to have another visit and pass a drug test? My next appt wasn’t for weeks. People on the phone were sarcastic when uncaring. I’m in the medical field and was told that this was wrong and they just want more money out of it. Went all weekend without holding my son, now I’m depressed and unable to work or get out of bed. In my opinion everyone involved should be ashamed of themselves. I wish I would have known that then I would’ve come in that day or sooner to take drug test. I’m willing to jump through whatever stupid hoops they want me to but you can’t just abandon me as a patient. I feel that they just abandoned me so beware.

Absolute joke. I waited 3 plus years for an appointment and they waited for me to get dropped from insurance so I could pay 700 dollars out of pocket. Though, when I asked for help 3.5 years ago I had insurance. They're more interested in your money than giving any sort of help. Now I'm right back to where I started. Feeling horrible with no feeling like there is any help for me. Homer medical sucks.

I was a victim of this facility. I was bullied to the point where I was scared to even go to sleep. The girls in there were very mean or needed to be somewhere else. The staff didn’t care about us either let alone did much to help us. Very little staff actually cared about us and made it fun. Please don’t send your kids here, all they’ll do is dope you up on pills till you’re a zombie and a hollow husk of your former shell

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in Alaska?
When comparing providers in Alaska, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in Alaska?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in Alaska?
Yes. Mental Health US includes Alaska providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all Alaska providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
