Embark at Ashburn is the absolute best outpatient treatment in the area. My child who turned 18 while in treatment with them experienced a seamless transition from the teen to the young adult program. Her therapist and medication provider were extremely accessible and knowledgeable. She is a completely different person. Embark changed our lives and saved our daughters. I would recommend Embark at Ashburn to any family who has a teen or young adult struggling with mental health. We’ve been through many treatment programs and this was our last stop finally :) thank you Embark!!

I was recommended this place by a close friend and I would highly recommend this place to any and everybody struggling with addiction! I spent most of my twenty's going to swanky upscale rehabs in South Florida and this place can compete with the best of them. The staff and counselors genuinely care about the patients and you will never be hungry, the food is great! This place is just the first stepping stone in your recovery to get you stabilized after using and I promise you they're great at doing so!!

The overall message and importance of what CSU symbolizes not only is beneficial to making Roanoke a better place but gives people the opportunity to find a new way of life without sending them to jail or institutions so many might not ever get a chance to see. I was fortunate enough to make the wise decision of going there after I thought I would never be able to enjoy my life again or bounce back from the bottom I had hit. Once I got to CSU I stayed as long as they allow (2 weeks) and in that time met staff and counselors there I’ll never forget that not only helped me find hope again but showed me a way out and set me up to progress when I left. Once I left, with their help, I got into an Oxford house and started attending meetings regularly. I eventually became the president of the house and after 6 months still clean from when I left CSU was able to move out and get my own apartment. I have now been clean and serene for 443 days(1 year, 2 months and 17 days) today, still attend meetings and am truly grateful for the life I’m still blessed to have. I wouldn’t have been able to do it if it wasn’t for reaching out to this establishment. I’m doing better now than I ever have in my life thanks to them and wanted to share this message of hope that no matter what or how hard things seem to get there is always a way to make it through the struggles we are faced with without resorting to using any drug (even alcohol) and enjoy the life we are blessed with every day. Thank you CSU and BRBH, You saved my life 🙏🏻

I thought this place was going to be the final step to my recovery journey. I am looking for medical help by a clinic in network with my insurance. Spoke with a lady on the phone the first day, and she said they were in network and had that the dose I’m taking now was around an average dose. I finally thought I found it. Somewhere I don’t have to pay out of pocket. She told me I would receive a call the next day, to finish my intake. However once I got the call I was informed that they don’t even prescribe my medication at this clinic. I am truly heartbroken. Obviously they need to get all the staff on the same page, so this won’t happen to another patient.

This place has no structure. Staff allow bullying and even be bullying. Some of the staff members are rude and down right nasty to the adolescents there. How is this helping anyone? It just creates more problems and issues for the adolescents.

Parking is FAR away from the building with no good directions. The security guard had to tell me where to go. I went for a specific group meeting advertised on a website that's out of date, but they were pretty rude saying they couldn't confirm the meeting was happening or not as I wasn't a registered member??? Bizarre but whatever 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

We have been several months out of a ED treatment program. We had luck with the in patient program with caring and kind staff (different location). The PHP portion in Alexandria was terrible; if I even asked to speak on the phone with my son they would not get him. In the first treatment program he was calling me everyday. I thought the shift in behavior was odd and now I see that it was pure manipulation with the PHP staff. My son withdrew himself from care. They really over stepped boundaries as a facility trying to override parents in the decision making process and therapies. I found out later that my child may have been having relations with a fellow patient, children were 'escaping' or 'running away' from care. As a parent this was very alarming and the reason I wanted to pull my child from the program to seek better care. I would think twice about placing a minor in the care of these facilities and do your research before consenting to treatment. All rehabs are not created equal. Some only consider you a paycheck. If you disagreed with the center then you are 'negligent' and 'refusing treatment'. When I did my initial research there were several programs, even out of state options that may have had better staff. 7 months later our family is still dealing with the false allegations that the center claimed towards the family; a mental health facility further traumatizing the mental health of a child. CFD do better.

My experience was great! The food is good, the staff is super nice! Espically Nurse Kayla, Ms. Rachel, and Ms. Coco. I appreciate the single rooms. The activities are super fun and I love the games. Going on the fake grass roof upstairs is great. While the inpatient care doesn't magically fix all of your problems, it can give you a better mindset and give you a better perspective on things. Inpatient care seems to aim on stabilizing you, and preparing you to be okay in the real world and cope with your problems. I do wish they had a quiet room you could go in to when overstimulated, because even if you go in to your own personal room you can still hear everything. :)

My husband was brought in to the ER by ems this week for stroke like symptoms. The ER staff was on point with getting him taken care of. The ER physician met him at the door and evaluated him on his way to CT. When he came back they took wonderful care and treated him with medication within a pretty quick time frame and he is already improving dramatically. We are very thankful for them.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in Virginia?
When comparing providers in Virginia, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in Virginia?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in Virginia?
Yes. Mental Health US includes Virginia providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all Virginia providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
