Samantha Kopp is so easy to talk to and she truly has helped me learn so much about myself while supporting me in so many ways. I feel like my healing journey has skyrocketed with her. I hope to better ny mental health as I continue to learn from her to better live my life. She is truly a blessing.

A joke of a place. They really let anybody into the mental health field.. Bryan was my counselor and looked me dead in my eyes when I was wanting to sign myself out and said "if you leave, you will kill yourself." As I was already suicidal. I recently just found out my old friend ended up there too at one point and he said the EXACT same thing to her. Do better people. That is sick. Do not recommend.

I saw a different psychiatric nurse every single time. Most of them did not want to be there and one explicitly told me she hated her job and would stonewall me during my appointments when she was there.

WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!!! I want to start by saying that when the time comes as caregivers that you feel like you have no other options and what you’re doing isn’t working that making the decision to put your loved one in crisis in a short term facility is not easy. We struggled for weeks on end before finally making the call to Unity to get the process started. My FIL is only 63 years old and has suffered from Parkinson’s disease since 2016 and the past 2/3 years he’s began to develop dementia. He has faced SO many life altering changes just this year and was starting to do better but then rapidly declined. From June to August 19 (the day he was admitted) every day seemed to be worse than the last, no medication combo was working and his medical team was no help. We placed him at Unity on 8/19 and he completed a 20 day stay there. I was so scared of him coming home and being angry at us for our decision but we genuinely didn’t know what else to do and we were worried about his quality of life and safety. His medical team, social worker and discharge coordinator held a weekly phone meeting with us to address progress, med changes, concerns and his day to day life. We were allowed to visit him 3 days of the week and we were allowed to call him 3 other days of the week. The first couple of times we spoke to him on the phone and when my husband went to visit we hadn’t seen much progress he was still very confused and angry while still suffering with some very scary hallucinations. On day 16 we got the call that he would be discharged at the end of the week. I will be honest with you both my husband and I were very nervous and skeptical but we shouldn’t of been as my FIL came out of Unity his old self! He’s now able to hold a conversation, he’s calm and not in a constant state of anxiety/panic and most importantly he’s safe now. We were so scared of how angry he would be that we sent him somewhere and that he wouldn’t understand why but he has only been home 45 minutes and he was telling us how thankful he was, how he learned so much there, how useful this place was to him and that he learned a lot of new coping skills to manage conflict or change in the future. THANK YOU to the staff at Unity…from the admissions coordinator, to the front desk staff, the nurses, social workers, doctors, nurses and discharge staff THANK YOU!!!!! Thank you for giving my FIL his life back!!!! We are so beyond happy to have him home and very thankful this resource is here in our community!!

I learned absolutely nothing from this place. I was told I would receive a 1 on 1 every week. And I was there for about 5 weeks and didn’t receive a single 1 on 1 with my therapist. The techs are cool, Casey and Ryan are the best but the clinical staff is horrible. All the groups are literally just playing games like hangman and bingo. A complete waste of time and I eventually got kicked out because I was so stressed out and relapsed a few times. So they dropped me off at the hospital and I was left homeless for 2 days on the streets of Knoxville after I was nothing but respectful to them the whole time I figured they would realize that it could easily lead to my death sending me out to the streets as a fentanyl addict. This place did nothing for my recovery and to top it off they forgot to give me my meds when I got kicked out. Very unprofessional do not send your loved one here. I hope they see this review and realize that I came there for help and I’m having to fix myself on my own now which I have been sober since I left and am doing well now it’s a shame I was triggered to use more in a rehab center than our in the real world.

My son started new medication and I hate that we have had questions and experiences since taking it and I can’t get anybody to call me back. As a mother, I would like providers to respond to their patients.

My experience with all the staff here has always been positive! I have been coming here for 3 years, and I have always loved my therapists, I love my case manager, and the doctors and nurse practitioners are pretty good too. They are always so kind, understanding, great listeners, and offer great advice. The only downside is they seem to change staff frequently so I’ve had to change therapists like 3 times. But I have loved every single one! I don’t know why this place has so many negative reviews. I’ve always had a very positive experience. The staff here works very hard to provide services to those in the community who are less fortunate and I really appreciate that. If I could give them 10 stars I would!

I have been a patient of Applegate Recovery for several years. However, an incident that occurred on (01/07/2026) involving a employee named Greta was so serious that it caused significant emotional harm and has fundamentally damaged my trust in Applegate Recovery as an organization. Dr. Chambers prepared a formal letter of recommendation for an urgent child custody hearing scheduled for the following day. Because I was working, I called around 3:00 PM and spoke directly with Greta. She confirmed she had the letter &explicitly stated that this was acceptable and that she would wait for me so I could retrieve the document. I reasonably relied on that assurance.I arrived at 4:27 PM, I met Greta walking down the stairs. She made no attempt to acknowledge me.I stopped her and said I was there to pick up the letter, she stated she wasnt going back upstairs that my “best bet” was to knock on the door to see if someone would let me in— & if there wasnt a answer, that was “my loss.” She walked off. I reminded her she promised to wait so i could pick up the letter needed for custody court the following day. it was a critical legal document. Despite this, she refused to assist me. Retrieving the letter would have required walking a simple flight of stairs, yet she declined and dismissed the situation entirely. This interaction caused severe emotional distress, panic, & very intense anxiety, particularly given that I have a documented extreme anxiety disorder and am actively in treatment. The timing of this incident—on the eve of a high-stakes custody hearing involving a child I have not seen in four years—significantly exacerbated my condition. The emotional harm was immediate, intense, and entirely foreseeable. The situation escalated to the point that the office director overheard the interaction and intervened, ultimately resolving the matter. While I am grateful 4 that intervention, it does not negate the emotional trauma already inflicted. The distress and destabilization I experienced cannot be dismissed or undone. this incident was not caused by Dr. Chambers, my counselor, or the office director. My concern lies with Applegate Recovery’s failure to ensure that front-desk staff—who handle confidential medical records, legal documentation, and highly sensitive patient information—meet basic professional, ethical, and compassionate standards. The conduct displayed was misleading, dismissive, and reckless given the foreseeable emotional and legal consequences. Because I reasonably relied on an employee’s explicit assurance, and because that assurance was then disregarded in a manner that caused documented emotional harm and exacerbation of a diagnosed anxiety disorder, this incident represents a serious breach of administrative responsibility and patient care obligations. Given the severity of the emotional trauma, the measurable impact on my mental health, and the potential legal consequences related to my child custody case, I am requesting compensation for the distress, anxiety, and psychological harm I endured as a direct result of this incident. Compensation is warranted in addition to corrective action and accountability measures—not in place of them. Since the Nashville office acquired the Brentwood location, I have made every effort to adapt to changes. However, incidents such as this demonstrate a troubling decline in professionalism, patient-centered care, and ethical oversight. This review is intended to place Applegate Recovery’s corporate leadership, compliance department, and legal oversight on notice. I expect a formal response acknowledging this incident, outlining corrective measures taken, and addressing the issue of compensation for the harm caused. Failure to address situations of this seriousness undermines patient trust and raises concerns regarding institutional accountability. Recovery environments must prioritize compassion, stability, and ethical conduct—especially for patients managing serious mental health conditions. On this occasion, those obligations were not met.

This recovery center is great! I had posted a review out of frustration and updating. The staff up front is wonderful and truly appreciate this center for what it has done for me and my recovery. Sometimes and this is rare but ot does happen, I feel like im not heard and when that happens, I feel like im just another number and looked down on bc im an addict. Im giving this shot another try bc I really hate taking the strips(taste horrible and mess with the enamel on your teeth) Im hoping to get leveled out and comfortable with this. But I still want to leave this part here bc as long as I've been going here, I have heard alot of people in the waiting area say 2 pills/strips a day isnt enough. And im a true believer in every person is different and should be treated as such. Some metabolize quicker and some dont. But this place only gives max, 2 a day. I've heard others say that it's just not enough and well that may be, but this is a fact. Im hoping that everyone who comes here gives it a chance. Bc they are good. Im just extremely tired of being looked at as just a number in a chart somewhere bc I am an addict. We Do Recover! So keep going forward and as the saying goes" TAKE IT ONE DAY AT A TIME" the groups here are amazing imo. Also found this fascinating there is a site called "In the room" Google it. Its free and you can go to a meeting in your car, on break at work.. wherever you are! Have a Great Day everyone!

Almost all of the staff was extremely nice and caring, and made whatever accommodations for you that they could; as long as they were reasonable and didn't infringe on anyone else. We got to go outside at least twice a day (weather permitting), their food was good, actually looked forward to meal times. You also have 3 snacks a day and can choose coffee or juice for your drink at snack times. There are specific shower and phone times, but you can make as many calls as you want during those phone times as long as you aren't holding up the phone. They do not want to "keep" you there, they want you to get out and back to your normal life, but they also want you to be better than you were when you got there. The average stay is 3-5 days, mine was 4. It is a very nice facility with overall great staff.

I have been a client of Centerstone off and on for over 20 years. I’ve recently returned for my mental health needs and the scheduling is not like it used to be. I used to get a print out with my future appointments listed clear to understand. I’m used to seeing two staff members per visit. The appointment reminders have only been listing one of your professional staff members when I usually see two. The last appointment was scheduled for 11am. When I got a reminder call prior to my visit the automated call stated I had an appointment at 10am and 11am. I rely on family members to drive me to Centerstone and they are employed. The appointment paper I was given only stated an appointment at 11am. This caused stress because I could not reach the office staff by phone before my appointment and there was not an option to leave a message. It seems the current office staff aren’t doing a good job of providing accurate information about future appointments. Other than that, the new medicine Dr Hartman has prescribed me is great and I have a brighter perspective on my future!

I have had nothing but great experiences at the millington office. The only complaint I have is when I call to reschedule my appointment, I can never get anyone on the phone, and can never get a call back. So I have to make a personal trip to the office to handle it. Other than that, the staff is friendly, and professional. Thanks

They take over 2 weeks to approve Cigna insurance from there HQ in Florida. At the time writing this I still havent been approved. When I asked about it the last time I could tell that they simply didn't want to bothered by me again and actually said "were thinking about dropping cigna next year" obviously just trying to be rude about having to do there job and look up/approve my insurance. This is a in-network business aswell and my insurance told me to come to Applegate so I find it absurd to take longer than 2 weeks for this when Spero Health right down the road approved me in just a matter of hours. These peoples HQ aren't here to help addicts at all and act like they dont have the time of day for you. My wife has worked front desk at two diffrent doctors offices and has never heard of this taking this long and can't believe they're even in business at all. The patient is of most importance and most places love to have a new patient but not here at Applegate where your a bother and a burden just for them to simply approve your insurance.

I was there as a kid around 2003 and almost had my arm broken from a huge staff member restraining me for defending myself. I was there almost a year when mark beaty took over. I remember Tim stout was a boxer and he was one of the best staff members at any facility I was ever at. Granted I was a bad kid no child deserves what I went through at 15 years old. I hope it’s a better place and the staff are better with the children than they were with me. I met some children there that are still my friends today. So it wasn’t all bad. But that’s my review. And as far as a recommendation based on my experience I do not recommend it at all. Would never send my child there. And Mr duffield almost caved my chest in 300 lbs putting me on my stomach and my arms behind my back and put his whole weight on me forcing my arms up. Couldn’t hardly move or breathe for a week. No one cared about that or when a staff member cracked my forehead open with his clip board. I wish I could sue this place

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in Tennessee?
When comparing providers in Tennessee, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in Tennessee?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in Tennessee?
Yes. Mental Health US includes Tennessee providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all Tennessee providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
