Have noticed some very bad reviews of the personnel at The Providence Center. I have observed completely the opposite: everyone is very professional, kind, caring and tries to be as helpful as possible. Considering the disgraceful mental health system in this country, with meager funding available, the staff at TPC provides better help and support to their often homeless clientele than many of the private facilities for which patients pay a great deal of money. Bravo to The Providence Center.

Very disappointed with the front desk staff in the North Providence office. It's probably faster to mail them a letter to reschedule an appointment. When I call them, they immediately put me on hold without giving me a chance to say anything. I'm calling them during my break so time is limited. I've also left voicemails and no one returns my calls.

If I could give this place no stars, I think I would. We were sent here from a higher level of care for a minor child. We were told we could get school based therapy so it would be possible to get meds through them without issues. Then we were told school based therapy didn’t exist and they don’t know why it was offered. Told us they were getting us on a list for a med provider that didn’t require therapy. They never did that and said they never promised that, then couldn’t tell me what I signed with the director for that to be done. But I drove in to meet and sign it and listen to him explain why we couldn’t stay. Thought we were on a list to be transferred to a different practice the entire time we were there (well over a year). Our provider was eh at first, had a hard time keeping all the information straight. After a few months it got better and he just kept giving us follow-ups without issue. Que the merging of buildings & they let go our provider go, found out 2 weeks before. The provider told us we would be transferring to the new provider in charge of minors. They immediately let us go, by phone, still not signed on with anyone new days after our last close out appointment with our provider who was leaving.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in Rhode Island?
When comparing providers in Rhode Island, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in Rhode Island?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in Rhode Island?
Some listings in Rhode Island may include providers that offer substance use treatment alongside mental health services, depending on available provider data. Use the Core Services filter to search for specific service types, or browse facility detail pages to see the full list of services reported for each provider.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all Rhode Island providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
