My stay at this psych ward was not pleasant. A lot of the staff were disrespectful and rude. I was in the adolescence program around 2021. My favorite staff was Latroya and Cory, they were so nice. The day I was getting discharged, Melissa threatened me that I wouldn’t be getting discharged because I talked about how I make impulsive decisions during group therapy. When releasing me to my parents, she brought me in the elevator with her and was being unprofessional. Staff would also constantly gossip about other patients. The level system is dehumanizing. The fact that you cannot talk to anyone or sit by anyone but staff when you first get there is outrageous. The food was very good though. I learned new coping mechanisms, however I felt worse than when I came in. Also they’re very quick to put you on medication. I think that is odd, my opinion is that they just want to drug you up to give you short term solutions to long term problems.

I had an out-of-state relative admitted to this program recently. I drove my entire family (husband and 3 kids) 1.5 hours through traffic from a far western suburb to visit with my relative. The Visiting hours listed in the patient materials clearly stated 3:30pm to 5:30pm. However, when we arrived, we were told that it was 3pm-5pm. This left us very little time to spend with our loved one, especially with the 2 person rule. We attempted to bring this inconsistency to the attention of the staff, but our concerns and requests were ignored. I understand that boundaries and rules are in place for valid reasons. However, it was clearly Pathlight's error; and they were unwilling to compromise to settle on an adequate solution for all. It seems like a very basic thing to have your actual schedule align with your printed patient materials. It's extremely unfair to "dig your heels in" to be the most restrictive when it's clearly your facility's error, especially when it comes to the vulnerable population that you are supposed to be serving.

Boooo! To Northwestern Medical in Orland Park! Getting an 87 year old Alzheimers patient ready for and to her 9:00 am appointment with her Primary Care Physician is a difficult and stressful process! To arrive at Northwestern Medical and be told, "Sorry. The building is closed. There's no power. You'll have to reschedule your appointment," is infuriating! Northwestern can email, text, call for payments owed, etc. Failing to notify patients of their building being closed due to power loss demonstrates a lack of professionalism, patient courtesy and inexcusable negligence. Oh, and when I went through the Northwestern Medical portal to reschedule her appointment, the first available appointment with her PCP is in November!

I want everyone to know I put a review up 5 months ago about Sterling apartments and the truth is I didn't think about what I was saying and how it was going to hurt someone's feelings because my mind was stuck in my emotions which does not excuse the review I left. The supervisor and all of the staff that works at Sterling Apartments are good people and care a lot so this means a lesson for me don't judge a book by its cover without getting to know the person. I am very sorry to the supervisor of our apartments and all the staff I offended it was not fair to any of them and my problems at the apartments are taken seriously please forgive the last review thank you!

My therapist, Donna, has the gift of empathy. I started working with her when I couldn't take care of myself due to severe frozen shoulder pain and insomnia. It took me down into my trauma and a place without purpose. She gave me the space to recreate myself and get back up again. I highly recommend working with them if you're seeking change in your life.

Vanessa is the most professional receptionist I have ever worked with. I never have problems scheduling appointments for my niece, due to her prompt awareness of appointment availability and her knowledge of staff scheduling. Not only is she professional she is also very kind and understanding of the struggles my niece is facing. Her demeanor is comforting and makes me feel like my niece will be safe. It’s because of people like Vanessa that hope is provided for the chronic nature of mental health!

They dropped me without warning in the middle of my treatment. I started therapy and psychiatry here after being homeless for a few months. A year later I was on my feet again and got a job. Multiple staff at the wellness center at multiple locations told me to take a PPO plan so they could continue working w me. Once I got on a PPO plan they cancelled all of my appointments and told me I was no longer allowed to get further assistance, even though my insurance states they have to take me. I now have to find a new psychiatrist and worry I will not find medication in time for my next renewal. I was told my therapist would assist me in finding a new psychiatrist but they dropped him too, and told me I am no longer allowed to contact him due to their insurance policy. My psychiatrist was even complaining about how awful they treat their clients. I am disgusted w the gaslighting and back and forth between their offices to get any consistent answer from any of the staff. Very dehumanizing. Don’t go here if you can.

This is a hard rating. On one hand, most of the nurses are kind, helpful and engaged. On the other hand, RN Jamole is terrible! She declined my RX refills once I left this facility's care. It's her rules or she doesn't care. She kicks people out because they aren't following HER rules. We are all trying to get better. Jamole simply does not care. Ask for someone else if you are unfortunate/fortunate enough to go here.

This place gave me the run around with referrals to then said they are not accepting new patients for 30 days. After 3 referrals sent from the primary, they said they didn't get them even though the primary office staff called and confirmed it was recieved twice. On the third sent they told the primary staff that they are not accepting new patients. I will now never use this system and have all this time and energy waisted.

My son is 40 yrs old and has been in Chester many times. He has been there for a year presently. He has been in at least 20 hospitals since he was 20. I have to say this is by far the best care he has ever received. The staff is wonderful and caring. I have gotten updates whenever I call his social worker. He is a very difficult person to deal with. The staff has been very patient and kind to him. I can actually feel relief of worry and stress on my husband and me in more than we have in 20 yrs. This facility deserves an award for their outstanding care and compassion they show.

I’ve gone back and forth about writing this review to share my experience with NFI, specifically regarding the care my daughter received last year, but given her progress since we’ve switched to a different group, I feel it’s important. I want to be clear that I understand many families may have had positive experiences, but unfortunately, this was not the case for us, and I feel it is important to explain why. Last summer, my daughter was diagnosed with combined ADHD, depression, and an eating disorder. We began to try different medications to address her diagnosis, right as she was starting her freshman year. During this time, her psychiatrist, Dr. Gautum, instructed me to contact her immediately if my daughter ever expressed suicidal thoughts and to discontinue her medication if that occurred. So when her school contacted me to report that my daughter was having such thoughts, I followed those instructions and reached out right away. I did not expect an immediate call back, but the message I received was surprisingly curt, essentially, “Call the ER or wait for your scheduled appointment.” It felt dismissive, especially given the seriousness of the situation and the guidance I had been given. It was actually the school social worker, who took the time to evaluate my daughter, assess her risk level, and stay with her until I could return from an offsite work event. Later that day, I was five minutes late to our scheduled call due to traffic while rushing back to my daughter. Despite the fact that sessions with Dr. Gautum often began 10–20 minutes late, she called my phone repeatedly and then reprimanded me for being “disrespectful of her time” and for not taking the situation seriously. Her tone was harsh enough that I broke down in tears during the call. In a moment when empathy and support were needed most, I felt judged and scolded instead. Although she later called to apologize, the damage to our trust had already been done. Beyond these incidents, we also struggled with inconsistent communication from the care team. We received conflicting guidance about what my daughter needed, at times we were told to keep her busy with activities to “distract herself,”. My daughter regularly attended weekly sessions, even though focusing after a full day of school was sometimes difficult for her. Only once there was conflict that occurred due to the last minute nature of knowing if she’d be competing in a sports Event, but we gave 24 hour notice. Even with an email showing the advanced notice of more than 24 hours, I was still charged 250 dollars for the cancellation. When her mental health started deteriorating shortly after, I was told that “she should be attending more sessions and not skipping them for her sports events”. This was confusing to me, because several times I raised concerns that she needed a more intensive, structured program, but I was strongly discouraged based on “statistical data,” yet the alternative recommendation was an intensive after‑school program lasting several hours each day, which was unrealistic for her needs and attention span. Ultimately, it was my daughter herself that asked for a day program. We made that change, and within four months her medication was stabilized and she began to thrive. The contrast in her progress has been significant. I am sharing this feedback not out of anger, but out of concern. My daughter often left sessions feeling inadequate and misunderstood, and I felt unsupported during critical moments. I hope this information is taken seriously and used to improve the experience for other families, especially those with children who have ADHD or complex mental health needs. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I had an mental health appointment with Dr. Sarlls. Solely based on that, the review is a 5/5, especially as a first time mental health patient. He was a great listener and helped me organize my own thoughts and experiences in order to reach a diagnosis. Unfortunately, the communication and reliability from the clinic have been misses. I have had three appointments with them and two of the three have been cancelled fairly close to the appointment by the clinic. I am sure both times had good reasons, but it is obviously not what I would hope for from a practice and something I would advise others keep in mind. My feedback for the practice would be to have the medical care professional reach out in this case. The last appointment that was cancelled was a follow up to evaluate how my medication had been going, so with this cancelled I am left in the lurch with no refill. Compounded on this, it is expensive. Now I can not easily say to what extent this is the fault of the practice vs insurance, but it is all the more reason I would have preferred clearer communication and consistency. I was not properly informed ahead of time of what the cost would be and then paid nearly $300 for an appointment that now has dead-ended since I have just decided not to refill. This is my choice, but one I have made in light of how this process has gone. Hopefully Clarity Clinic can take this feedback on board, as I truly had a great initial consultation. I wish their team the best ❤️

Very disappointed that Rural Health, Inc. let go of a doctor who truly cared about patients. Good doctors are hard to find, and removing providers who actually listen, care, and build trust with their patients hurts the community. Since Jessica is no longer there, i will be finding a new provider elsewhere. I refuse to be another number or dollar sign for Rural Health when they don't care enough about the community they serve. Truly hoping to get rid of them all together!!!

Very nice, clean & welcoming facility. A lot of space to roam, plenty of activities, breaks and a lot of free time. The staff is extremely attentive to the guests needs. The BHT & Nursing staff are outstanding and always pleasant. The Therapists are tremendously helpful and easily accessible. Great group sessions that provide an opportunity to openly participate. I was very happy to have electronic media time, it allowed me stay in contact with my loved ones and the outside world. The kitchen was under construction, so I can't give the cooking staff a fair assessment. They did a great job considering the circumstances. I highly recommend Banyan for a residential treatment option.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in Illinois?
When comparing providers in Illinois, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in Illinois?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in Illinois?
Yes. Mental Health US includes Illinois providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all Illinois providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
