My son tried to apply to attend this program. I saw reviews and thought it was a good place for him. The person he spoke to on the phone was horrible, kept accusing him of lying, treated him terribly, then they ghosted him. Too many of these programs employ people that did drugs or alcohol for years and are not right in the head. Getting sobered doesn't always make you an ideal candidate for counseling others. That is one of the reasons many of the programs are so awful.

Horrible place. Sanitary is poor, & the care is subpar to say the least. I don't even think any of these people graduated high school, let alone therapists.

Stayed here in 2020 as well. I feel like I need to speak up. Yes, they did turn all the heat up when a patient was anxious about getting out of bed. I remember it being so hot and stuffy. They blared a microphone by their bed, and made it loud. The staff removed us from the house and took us on an "adventure". When we came back, they were no longer there. I was exposed to seeing a lot of outbursts, and I even remember on my discharge day that the lead therapist (Nicole) said to me "I hope they find out what's wrong with you", it has stuck with me to this day. I was not allowed to say how I truly felt a lot of the time, and when I did, I was threatened with wilderness therapy and long term therapy. They didn't respect pronouns and they didn't respect chosen names. This company is apart of the Troubled Teen Industry, and I do NOT recommend sending your child here. I endured so much there, and I only came out to get worse. I am now finally sober, and finally getting a hold of my mental health. This place was awful. i repeat, DO NOT send your child here. There was so much drama, the staff was awful, and I wasn't even allowed to have my journal. It was such an awful horrid experience.

Had a great experience here. The case managers are very helpful and keep you accountable. Therapy was effective and helped me re-frame my thought process. I would recommend this place if you are serious about your recovery and want to take meaningful steps in your journey.

Haynes is truly a special place for children. The staff participates in ongoing professional development throughout the year, ensuring they are well-trained at all educational levels. When my mother visited, she commented on how happy and healthy everyone looked she immediately felt a positive and welcoming atmosphere. I just had to share that! Special thanks to our incredible leadership Ms. Meg, Ms. Lupe, and Ms. Evette and to our amazing BI team. Haynes is not only diverse but also filled with passionate, talented individuals who genuinely care about the children and families we serve. It needed to be said: we are grateful to be part of such a dedicated and supportive program. Thank you all for the work you do and for being a part of the Haynes family!

DO NOT GO HERE.....they lie and manipulate you to go here. Was lied to while there. Detox rooms are dirty. Flys are everywhere....they should buy a bug zapper. Groups consist of paper packets and videos that I can google myself. They let the same people talk and repeat themselves in groups. They don't direct groups to use "I" statements nor discourage cross talk. No outings. Only 6 patients can go to aa meetings and it's not consistent. We were without MILK FOR A WEEK and butter. Workout facility is a weight bench outside with weights. They move patients that are still in detox to residential way too early. Only concerned with filling beds. This place is poorly ran No communication between staff. The discharge planner lied to me about PHP, said it would be next to the beach that I could walk outside and the beach would be there.....total lie...beach is 25 minutes away. Don't believe anything they say. Was not consulted about my treatment with my insurance. They will keep you as long as possible for money from insurance. Only concerned about profit. There were 2 patients that had meth inside facility, another 2 had weedpens.

My son is currently in this facility. There is absolutely no therapy, no groups no help! My son is there suffering in silence. He also has a severe gluten-free allergy and it’s basically being ignored so he’s unable to eat the meals there, other than occasionally sliced chicken. He checked himself in because he was a danger to society and his home, we were hoping he would learn coping skills, but that doesn’t seem to be happening, so he’ll be leaving there with no knowledge on how to help himself. I am now wondering who will be held accountable when he’s released if something goes wrong because my son is not well, which is why he checked in.

Got rejected because I “wasn’t severe enough” at first, and now I’ve been accepted in a second or third round of trying, I’m stuck with a doctor that is extremely conservative with meds to the point I’m having panic attacks and dissociation from severe anxiety. Thought I wasn’t severe enough for treatment, now I’m not severe enough for proper medication.

I was in the Shasta unit in February 2025 and it was traumatic for me, but maybe that's just all hospitals haha. Some of the staff in the unit demonstrated preferential treatment, gossiping about patients, and passive-aggressiveness. The biggest thing for me was the boredom. They have groups every day, but they are all corny and geared towards children and I didn't want to participate. That's just me though, maybe other people enjoy them. There is little to nothing for adults to do. I spent most of my time sleeping, luckily they didn't have a problem with it. As for the actual medical portion, I think they just do what they're supposed to do, and that's it. There's not much anybody can do for a patient in just under two weeks except observe. I expressed that I was anxious about being in there to the staff several times, and they gave me medication to help with it sometimes. The only thing that helped with my anxiety was getting released. It was truly an experience I will never forget.

This is the worst mental health facility the front staff does nothing but laugh at you and talk about you, you are supposed to feel safe in a mental health facility and the nurses feel they are better than you when all the nurses have bad mental health and are taking medication themselves. I always felt Karina specifically laughed at me didn't feel supportive she just wanted to know my life to feel better about herself. Christine told me I was too severe and extensive for this clinic. I was with the coordinator just today getting transferred out of there and she didn't even tell me at the last appointment. So no I don't want to see her at a last appointment in two weeks. She didn't care about me I don't care about her either. Yeah I'm so severe because I clean my apartment and cook for myself I don't need help in the bathroom and I'm driving my car right now. I am very independent since 19 Christine just gave up on me and passed me on. But it's okay I will never be returning to this clinic. And don't get me started on Oceanside mhs that's a whole another review on its own. This is a terrible place.

through the years i’ve went to evolve twice, and i’ve got the most of the program, i’ve learned so much from evolve! I went to evolve walnut creek in 2024 and evolve danville in 2025. The staff are constantly trying their best to lift the kids up and they are extremely helpful. being at evolve has helped me grow and i’m so thankful for everyone there! Jodi, nick, ernestine, rosalind, and james really helped me! it’s been about 5 months sense my last evolve residential! The only thing bad is that they’re really under staffed. another thing i’d say is it really depends on the kids there that affect your treatment . the staff could try their best but it depends on the kids

Hathaway Recovery saved my life. I've been to two different rehabs before this one (one being a well-known, Nationwide facility) and this is by far the superior institution. They have several different levels of care to assist in every stage of the rehabilitation process. The detox was smooth and cautious; I felt extremely safe and comfortable. The group sessions are gentle and inviting, to let clients know that they are in capable hands and an accepting environment. The therapy sessions dive deep into the mental health issues that lead to addiction. The staff is professional when they need to be, but also speak to clients like they are real people and not just another patient. The homey atmosphere (as opposed to a hospital setting) makes the experience both realistic and comforting. The way it's ran shows clients that they can live a normal, sober life. It impacts their recovery journey by letting clients set attainable daily and long-term goals. The staff empowers each client to know they have the strength to pursue these goals, with the help from them and then eventually on their own. Most rehabs promise to give clients their life back, but Hathaway Recovery has given me a life I had never even dreamed of. In review terms: I am an extremely satisfied customer.

I’ve been going here for the past 3 years and have had such a good experience. The front desk staff is amazing, especially Alyssa, Krisy, and Guyver. They’re all so kind, caring, and helpful every time I call. Whether I need help with medications, refills, or appointments, they always get everything taken care of quickly and make the whole process so easy. You can tell they genuinely care about their patients and it makes such a difference 🤍 I see Dr. Jacob and he’s been great — very easy to talk to, understanding, and always makes me feel heard. I also really love that they offer Zoom appointments so I don’t always have to go into the office! They’ve gotten me through some really tough life events and I truly can’t recommend this place enough.

I went into Sierra Meadows when I was 18. I am now 22 and I am so grateful for the staff at Sierra Meadows. I went in and was properly diagnosed and educated on the mental issues I was having at the time. I went Monday-Friday for 2 1/2 months, during COVID time, which was such a challenging time for me. I realize now that I wouldn’t be where I am today without this place. I not only learned mental exercises that I still use to this day, but I realized that everything I was going through is completely normal. With group therapy, me actively participating, with the intention that I want to get out of the state of mind that I was in, and the staff at Sierra Meadows, I am now in such a great place. I thank Sierra Meadows for providing me with great care, and also educating my mom and loved ones on what I was going through at the time. This place is life altering. If you are considering this place I recommend it 1000%. And remember that your perception is different from your perspective, in terms of whatever it may be that you are going through. Also actively LISTEN, and speak, sharing what I was going through was the best part of my development and growth here. I

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in California?
When comparing providers in California, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in California?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in California?
Yes. Mental Health US includes California providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all California providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
