Excellent program. Staff are professional, compassionate and understanding. This is a great place to stabilize and find a positive direction in life. There are two staff that stand out above the rest. Dave and Hunter are outstanding staff who go beyond the call of duty to help clients. They are client centered and truly care. Thank you both for making a positive difference in clients life's. Thank you for all your help ❤️

I’m a CASA Court Appointed Special Advocate for a Transitional Age Youth with a Bipolar 1 diagnosis who has spent time at Sharp Mesa Vista, Grossmont Behavioral Health, Bayview crisis Center in Chula Vista, and twice now at Crestwood. In my opinion Crestwood does a great job. The patients have a lot of freedom within the confined walls. They have a large outdoor space with picnic benches where visitors can spend time with their loved ones. The patients have a phone and can both receive calls and make calls. From what I’ve been told the doctors and nurses listen to their patients and the food is good. Each time I’ve visited the nurses are respectful and kind with the patients. If you have been there yourself it’s hard to be subjective as you were likely there against your will. Mental illness is not easy.

I would never recommend this place to anyone I care about. The staff can be so sweet but they all abuse their power. From my experience I was given a diagnosis from my THERAPIST and told I would have to take medication for that diagnosis in order to stay at the program. Thank God I'm out. Much love💞

I'm embarrassed to say I had been to a few treatment centers before I was fortunate to be placed at Nsight, although I know that's true for many people who struggle with their mental health and addiction. If you experienced trauma during childhood or at any point in your life and it affects your mental health, or you're not even sure if it does but you struggle with addiction, Nsight is the place for you. There is no other treatment center like it. Their program, groups, counselors and housing are one of a kind. The environment is kept professional unlike many other facilities. The counselors are actually educated and experienced as well as empathetic and relationship based. Nsight is so different in so many ways from other treatment centers. Nsight saved and forever changed my life. It is through Nsight that I found myself. I graduated and walked out of their program a literally completely different and better person. I went home and my mom cried and said she had no idea this is who I am and that I am actually such a beautiful, kind and fun person. After struggling with depression, anxiety, addiction and other diagnosis that were inaccurate. I owe my life today to Nsight, their program and their counselors. I cannot recommend this program enough. If you're on the fence between choosing Nsight and another place - choose Nsight. You won't regret it.

I just completed 120 days in detox and recovery, and I’m incredibly grateful for every single person I met along the way. This journey showed me that alcoholism is a real disease, and recovery isn’t something we can always do alone. With the right help, healing is possible. I want to thank the Gooden Center and all the organizations, staff, and people who supported me during the hardest time of my life. Because of you, I was able to get my life back—stronger and better than when I left. I became part of a brotherhood of men uplifting each other. This new lifestyle, the bonds I created with the staff, and the constant support I received are things I will always cherish in my heart. Thank you all for giving me my life back. ❤️

I have nothing but good things to say about Newport. They helped my daughter tremendously. She went in wanting to self-harm (she had previously) and thought of and talked about ending her life. She also had a general disinterest in growing up and facing life after high school. Newport was able to help her transition off of the meds she was on (which it's felt was the main cause of her feelings) and onto meds that have helped her get back on track with life. I was able to talk to my daughter twice a day and contact staff anytime I felt the need to check on her wellbeing. I even was given personal therapy sessions to help me be a better parent. When I felt she was ready to come home, there was no hesitation from the psychologist to agree with me and she came home just days later. She was well taken care of and given more than adequate accommodations during her stay. At no point did I feel I made a mistake taking her there. And if the need arises for her to return to Newport, I will not hesitate to send her again.

The wrap program isn't for everyone. The lack of communication that behavioral health and child welfare have is un real. They play favorite with kids In the program it feels. I think these are my biggest complaints along with not reporting a series situation that happened and made an assumption instead of using rational thought and looking at the bigger picture. There are some really great people there. Definitely if you need therapy check them out. Check out Leona she is an awesome therapist. 100% 10 out of 10 awesome.

I reached out to Aspire Counseling Services for a family member in need of mental health support and I was very impressed with their kindness and efficiency. From the first phone call, their staff was helpful and made the process straightforward and easy to navigate. They quickly gathered the necessary information and were able to get my family member into group therapy the following week. I truly appreciate their dedication to providing support when it's needed most. Highly recommend.

I'm really grateful firstly to God and secondly' to Newport Avocado house. I was very pleased with this location because every staff member was a blessing to my granddaughter and myself. She loved the environment and the attention she received in helping her gain tools she needed to cope with the emotional issues she has experienced in life. It's hard to single out individuals because everyone was great, but Tom, her personal therapist, and John the family therapist imparted greatly into her life. I never felt anything other than support, genuine concern and care for her. Everyone I talked to demonstrated great regard for me as her grandma/guardian as well. Everyone was easy to talk to. When it was time to pick her up, she cried deeply. Even though she didn't want to leave, it was time for her to stand on the new tools she received. We've been able to get through things much better than before. Now she sees more value in her life! Thanks Avocado house for doing a great job. I miss yall too. Tell the Chef I miss her cooking even though I never tasted any, but I heard about the gourmet meals😄

My Doctor is very kind and gracious and very understanding to the details of my illness when I am unavailable to arrive in the morning that my appointment is always at that slot. He calls me to make sure I am OK. I am physically safe. He is not caring I am very appreciative of my doctor. I am very grateful to have him in my life as a caring physician. They don’t make doctors like that anymore and I’m glad I have one.

Although we haven’t started the program yet, I wanted to share my experience so far. The gentleman I spoke with over the phone, Justin B. addressed all of my concerns, especially after reading some of the negative reviews. He was incredibly knowledgeable and confident in the program, which reassured me about my family’s well-being. After a detailed 50-minute conversation, I feel much more optimistic about the outcome. I’ll be sure to update this review once we’ve completed the program. Thank you Justin!

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in California?
When comparing providers in California, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in California?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in California?
Yes. Mental Health US includes California providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all California providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
