I saw a Alicia for years, and then switched over to Daryl when Alicia stopped seeinng patients. Alicia is the owner of the business, and after going to her for as long as I did I have full confidence that every therapist she hires is as amazing as her. I know Daryl has been very helpful since I've been going to her. I cannot recommend this place more.

Good people. The receptionist is alone and does what she can, I just wish they were more sensitive to the fact that they're working with people that are really sensitive and have issues. I had an issue once with my medication and called and was told "you and everyone else in Calhoun County", and I don't think that would have done well with someone that's really suicidal. I wouldn't have done well with it if I weren't on medication and understood how swamped the lady was.

Definitely better before BHG took over but still grateful for it. Most of the staff is great. Folks talking about security must not know them very well. And getting locked out. Every think your watch maybe off goofballs. Anyway I suggest come earlier.

ABSOLUTELY WORST PLACE EVER!!! THE ONLY DOCTOR IS DR. CASTRO AND THEN IT IS NEVER IN PERSON, BUT A TELEPROMPTER!!!! HE NEVER GETS TO KNOW YOU AND YOUR PROBLEMS UNLESS YOU SEE THEIR SO-CALLED THERAPIST!!! AND THEY TRULY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU, OR WHAT YOU'RE GOING THROUGH!! IT'S A PERFECT LITTLE JOB THAT THEY CAN DO TO GET YOUR GOVERNMENT INSURANCE, NAMELY MEDICAID!! I KNOW THIS BECAUSE I USED TO GO THERE BECAUSE I COULDN'T FIND ANY OTHER PSYCHIATRIST THAT ACCEPT MEDICAID!!! AND I TRIED TO GO BACK TO THEM ON JUNE 27, 2024AND MY APPOINTMENT TIME WAS AT 1:30 BUT WAS TOLD TO BE THERE BY 1:00, SO I DID THAT, HAD THE PAPERWORK FILLED OUT AND SIGNED WITHIN 2 MINUTES AFTER I GOT THERE!!! THE SO-CALLED "THERAPIST" STOOD IN THE OFFICE WHERE YOU SIGN IN, TALKING TO THE SECRETARY FOR 30 WHOLE MINUTES AND MADE THE STATEMENT "MY COMPUTER HAVE TO BE REBOOTED AND IT WONT LET ME SIGN IN UNTIL MY NEXT APPOINTMENT" WHICH WAS ME!!! MEANWHILE I AM SITTING THERE FOR 30 FULL MINUTES, IN DEBILITATING, AGONIZING, AND EXTREME PAIN BECAUSE I HAD A TREE FALL ON MY HEAD AND CRUSHED MY SPINE AND THAT THERAPIST KNEW THIS INFO BUT MADE ME WAIT UNTIL EXACTLY 1:30 BEFORE SHE SASHAYED IN FRONT OF ME AND SAID "FOLLOW ME"!! BY NOW I AM CRYING FROM THE PAIN, AND SHE STARTED TO DO AN INTAKE LIKE I WAS A NEW PATIENT!!! SO I ANSWERED HER QUESTIONS UNTIL SHE FINISHED TYPING IT ALL IN SUPPOSEDLY!!! WHEN SHE FINISHED THOSE QUESTIONS, AND MAKING IT TAKE UP 30 MINUTES MORE, SHE PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT DR. CASTRO WAS ON VACATION AND THAT IT WOULD BE THE END OF SEPTEMBER BEFORE HE COULD SEE ME, EVEN THOUGH IT IS ONLY ON A TELEPROMPTER, SO I ASKED IF THERE WAS ANOTHER DOCTOR, BUT SHE SAID "NO, JUST A NURSE PRACTITIONER AND THEY DON'T PRESCRIBE MEDS LIKE I NEED AND THEY CANT SEE ME UNTIL THE END OF JULY"!!! I WAS SO MAD THAT I WAS SEEING BETOND RED!!! SHE MADE ME SIT THERE DOING AN "INTAKE" ONLY TO TELL ME THAT!!! I STORMED OUT OF HER OFFICE SLAMMING TO DOOR OPEN AND CURSING HER EVERY STEP I TOOK UNTIL I GOT INTO MY CAR!!!! I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE MAD THAN I WAS THEN!!! I FELT LIKE KILLING MYSELF BECAUSE IT SEEMED LIKE NO ONE THAT IS SUPPOSED TO CARE ABOUT MY WELL-BEING AND SANITY DIDN'T CARE AT ALL!!! AND ONCE UPON A TIME THEY HAD GROUP THERAPY FOR US, BUT THEY DID AWAY WITH THAT BIT OF HAPPINESS FOR ALOT OF PEOPLE BECAUSE HIGHLAND HEALTH DIDNT HAVE THE FUNDS FOR IT, EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE GETTING THEIR MONEY FROM MEDICAID AND OTHER PEOPLE INSURANCES AND THE STATE OF ALABAMA!!! YOU TELL ME, DO YOU WANT YOUR HEALTH AND SANITY IN THE HANDS OF PEOPLE LIKE THIS??? BECAUSE I SURE DON'T THAT IS WHY I NEEDED TO TELL OTHERS ABOUT THIS LACK OF TREATMENT AND CARE!!! SO THAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE FORWARNED BEFORE THEY SEEK HELP AND ARE MISTREATED!!

Poorly run clinic that used to be great. There is a high turnover of doctors who left for better pay. Now they have hired nurse practitioner who doesn't understand mental health disorders who prescribed meds without worries of interactions. The therapist is a narcissist who could careless if you are helped but too concerned about watching the clock and lunchtime. Please consider another clinic the patient retention is horrible and people are leaving just like the doctors.

I love Princeton. I love the devotions the chaplain does at 8:30 am and 8:30 pm every day over the loud speaker followed by a prayer. A hospital is only as good as its doctors, nurses and staff. It may not be the prettiest hospital but every room has scripture , it has a beautiful chapel and everyone is so kind. The doctors of different specialties communicate with eachother and collaborate on a patients care. This doesn’t happen at the big University hospital in town. Some of the best physicians I’ve ever known work at Princeton. The nurses and ICU staff are great. At Princeton it’s about patient care not about making money. You can feel it. 🩷

I have been going to Grayson & Associates for many years. Very kind and helpful medical staff. Even if there is a change in therapist a new one simply picks up where the other has left off. It's not like starting all over. Also, when calling in for questions the clerical staff is very polite and helpful as well.

I’ve been on the program for 12 years, I ve had 3 awesome counselors. I stayed with one for 9 years, without her I wouldn’t have made it. She was in recovery herself, so She understood me. It is pretty bad right now, with the employee turnover rate, and organization with the Hurricane season. But with anything there is good and bad. I am sure they will get it back together soon.People need to understand that they are highly critiqued by federal laws. But as long as you do what your supposed to, you will not have any problems.

I've called this business over a time-sensitive matter for multiple days in a row and have left messages only to find they've never returned my call. My son also tried for days with the same results. In addition, this process of contacting Sunshine Mental Wellness started with a referral from another doctor, of which the Sunshine MW never returned their initial call either after two weeks.

Called to get started with therapy due to 30+ years of trauma from working in the Fire Department and EMS. I was told that they aren’t “allowed” to help people that live in Winston County, even though they have an office in Russellville which isn’t that far away. So I guess people from my area aren’t worth helping. I give zero stars because of my uselessness. Ridiculous.

This place isn't too bad. They have a very high turnover rate as far as counselors and pharmacy techs go. Always new employees rotating in and out. The director is fair and friendly, I like her a lot. There are a few counselors that have been there for a long time though, they are awesome and for the most part always willing to help resolve an issue. I guess the biggest downside to this place is all the drama that goes down in the parking lot before the place even opens, lawd there's some crazy folks that go here!

When I was a child going here the people were very condescending and rude and were just great at making you feel even worse. They kicked me out because I wasn’t “bad enough.” I’m older now and had to go because my school made me but now they’re really nice. It’s not at all like it used to be. The remodeled and the therapist help instead of hurting you worse. If you’re looking for a therapist I would recommend one from here, at least in the children’s section. They saved me from myself.

I can’t speak for other peoples experiences but I can tell you that My experience here tremendously helped me get my head straight and get me on the right track to therapy. The food is good and the staff is nice. The phone situation is a little strict but that is to be expected. The counselor are always welcoming and there if you need someone to speak to. If you’re needing help don’t be afraid this place will help.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in Alabama?
When comparing providers in Alabama, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in Alabama?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in Alabama?
Yes. Mental Health US includes Alabama providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all Alabama providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
