I've had sons that had to stay there only to be spoken down too and wrote up for minor things which would either cause them to be kicked out or cause them to lose their jobs. I thought the Glory House was there to provide help and assistance to the residents so they can get on their feet, not just to belittle them. Also when I've gone there it wasn't even professional like they just hire anybody there. That place needs new management and employees

I've signed up for this place before, but they've didn't help me, they said I needed some requirements to get it in when COVID hit that was impossible, all ik is there is some fishy about this place, they don't really help people as much as they can and I was one of those people

I would rate this organization far below one star if possible. It is difficult to understand how this counseling service remains in operation. In my experience, the staff demonstrate a concerning lack of professionalism and respect, raising serious questions about the quality and safety of care provided. I have personally observed instances where treatment plans appeared to be altered based on personal bias rather than clinical judgment, which is deeply troubling and inconsistent with accepted standards of care. Additionally, the fact that this organization holds prescriptive authority is concerning given these observations. For individuals required to attend counseling through court mandate, I strongly recommend seeking an alternative provider whenever possible.

I would not recommend to ANYONE. I ended up calling 911 for an underlying serious medical issue I have. I just needed help and got refused because I was a Native American.

I looked for their help, and it's precisely what they have done. They have helped me in ways that I have never been helped before. I have followed their plan without any trouble. Their bubble packs for my meds are a blessing because of my memory disability. The staff, therapists, and psychiatrists are kind, patient, understanding, considerate, and flexible. I have been with them for 5 years. I highly recommend them. Thank you, Southeastern, on behalf of my husband and me for what you do for us.

Funny to have to say this about a counseling service, but the staff could really upgrade their communication skills between each other. Otherwise I find it a very pleasant place to seek my therapy needs.

Even though this facility has had so many rough patches and so many Conflicts with many Native American and non-colored individuals in this community. I can sure say that the children’s home Society being one of the most oldest facilities to help youth and mothers all around, strive Daily to help those in need whether that’s residential, Emergency Shelter. I once, had To stay at the children’s homes society because I had no where else to go, I was under the custody of my mother. An it seemed so hopeless to even want to move forward with school, or my everyday life because I thought these people were here to hurt me. The Home Society all around had always welcomed My Mother and I with open arms regardless of the opinion on her history. And chose to help us succeed for the better. This is one facility. I am very fond of because even after all these years they continue to fight for what they believe is right in their terms. The facility has their own agenda, but let’s remember all the employees and everybody who wants to help everyone who work there, All work there for one thing and that’s to help indigenous, homeless, and even youth who had no support. Who WE AS PEOPLE would like to see succeed. Although this facility doesn’t shine particularly. Children’s Home Society holds a place in my heart. I thank you all for doing what you can, and making everything possible. Because without the Societies help. I wouldn’t be here today, a grown adult, attempting to change the lives of youth today. I am forever grateful :)

We are having a very difficult day as we can’t find our loved one. When I called to let them know they wouldn't be able to make it to their appointment due to them being missing, the lady on the phone was extremely rude. Seems you could have been an ounce nicer as we were trying to be respectful and give your team a heads up that one of their patients won’t be showing up due to mental health concerns. Aren’t you suppose to be a facility who is welcoming and helpful to the mental health of all? Hire someone a bit nicer to answer your phones and show some respect to be struggling.

Waited over a month for an appointment, was NEVER told to be 30 minutes early for appointment, never received online paperwork. Took a day off of work, had to find a ride, and still they wouldn’t see me even though I was technically 15 minutes early for my “appointment time”. For a mental health facility this place is a joke. Do NOT go here. Better off seeing your PCP and getting a referral for ANYWHERE ELSE. They do NOT care about their patients. I wish I could leave zero stars. Front desk lady with short hair/septum piercing was extremely rude, wasn’t even giving me the next available appointment date. Which I can’t afford to take more time off of work. Heartless person.

I wish I could give a 0 but what I experienced was down right neglect. I wasn’t given a bag with a tooth brush, brush, toothpaste, extra underwear, etc. I felt extremely uncomfortable and embarrassed, the staff that did my sign in papers was rude and made my experiences feel like they didn’t matter. I was also 12 dealing with kids like myself and kids who had severe anger issues, this also reminds me of the time when they sedated a 7/8 year old I can’t remember how old but he was the youngest one in there. Pixie yes I remember her name would cuss at other children and have a horrible attitude AROUND CHILDREN. If you don’t like your job and don’t like kids, do us all a favor and Don’t WORK WITH KIDS. In conclusion it was dirty, uncomfortable, non professional, and a place where children shouldn’t be sent to “heal”. It’s time for an upgrade.

I feel bad giving one star, but after spending the night in the hospital recovering from the knee replacement, I had been throwing up every hour on the hour just exhausted. Finally got the pain under control. Last time. I checked the clock. It was 3 AM. I must’ve fallen asleep because I was awoken by what sounded like a rubber band snapping really hard at four in the morning. After 20 minutes of enduring this noise, I called The nurses station to report a loud noise in my room that it’s very disruptive The nurses aid on the third floor that evening came into my room and told me they were doing a little work out in the hall. I told her in tears I was in pain. I was exhausted. I felt spent in that noise needed to stop well it did at five in the morning. The little nurses aid who came into my room, was a one out there in the hall, making the noise giggling with absolutely no compassion for how the patients are feeling at four in the morning! When my physical therapist came to take me out of the room, I told her what it happened and when they opened my door, I saw the magnificent artwork of all the employees animal photos on the wall! The rubberband snapping noise. I thought I heard was actually a staple gun for an hour. There must’ve been over 5000 staples in that wall and I’m incensed by it. I thought I was there to heal and to rest, i’m not gonna mention the nurse’s assistance name as I will report her to the hospital There was so much lack of empathy and compassion Or I don’t know maybe I’m overreacting!

I am rating summit oaks a firm 1 out of 5 stars and honestly wish I could give zero. As someone who is finally unlearning the brainwashing that goes on in “treatment facilities” for teens is held to no “standard”. I luckily was not there for all to long before my parents learned that I was not receiving the “help” they promised. In a parents eyes we were supposed to have 1 on 1 weekly therapy with our therapists. In my 6ish months at summit oaks I meet with a therapist 1 on 1 three times in my stay with 2 different therapists! Not to mention I was pulled due to covid at the end of the day, because of that my therapist said we would do weekly “zoom” calls to make sure I keep up with myself. She never reached out after I left and it’s not like I’m surprised. During my process of packing my things to leave a staff member named Holly that I will forever and always remember told all my pod mates to “stop being happy for me, every kid pulled before they are 18 comes back” so I made it my mission to never go back to a place like that again. If they are trying to get teens to stop communicating they mastered that, restraining kids would become normal and you are not to react, to go with that if you did react or have a “panic attack” most of the time you would get yelled at for it. The “point” standard at summit oaks is crazy. A kid gets based off of body language, participation, tidiness of your bed in the morning, with no expectations you are sick. If you get sick you immediately drop down to zero points and can lose the privilege of a family phone call. If you are sending your kid off for mental health care shouldn’t they understand when days get “bad”. Another point to bring up they put me on lots of medication at very high doses, when I worked my way up in the program to a family visit off campus they drug tested me upon my arrival, I failed my drug test due to the medication I was on so they pulled my bed onto the floor and I had to sleep with lights in my eyes next to the overnight staff member. They didn’t believe it was my medication so they even sent my urine off to get tested and I lost all privileges until that test came back. Another thing I would like to mention is there staffing, on my pod there was 13-15 girls and one staff, if there where to be someone acting out everyone would have to go to there room until another staff was called to the pod to address the issue. Maybe not every experience is like mine but it definitely gave me truama rather than helping with it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I compare mental health providers in South Dakota?
When comparing providers in South Dakota, consider location relative to where you live or work, the specific services offered, levels of care available (such as outpatient, intensive outpatient, or inpatient), therapy approaches used, conditions treated, hours of operation, whether a website is available, accreditation status, and reviews when listed. Not all details are available for every provider, so it can help to check each facility listing directly.
What should I ask before contacting a provider in South Dakota?
Before reaching out to a provider, it helps to know what you are looking for. Consider asking about current appointment availability, accepted insurance plans and self-pay or sliding-scale options, whether telehealth appointments are offered, which specific services are currently active, and whether the provider has experience treating your particular concern. Availability and services can change, so confirming details directly with the facility is recommended.
Are all services listed on Mental Health US available at every facility?
No. Services vary by facility and may change over time. The information shown in each listing reflects what was available when the record was created or last updated. Always confirm current service availability, hours, and intake procedures directly with the provider before visiting or calling.
Can I find both mental health and substance use treatment providers in South Dakota?
Yes. Mental Health US includes South Dakota providers that offer mental health services, substance use treatment, or both. You can use the available filters to narrow results by treatment needs, or review individual facility pages for more detailed information about the services and conditions each provider treats.
What if I cannot find the right provider in my city?
If you do not find a suitable provider in a specific city, try broadening your search by browsing all South Dakota providers using the statewide view, or use the filter dropdowns to search by condition treated, therapy type, or level of care without entering a specific city. You can also browse nearby city pages to see providers in surrounding communities.
