NAMI Anchorage, a branch of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, provides free support, education, and advocacy for individuals living with mental health conditions and their families across the Anchorage, Alaska community. As a grassroots organization, NAMI Anchorage is dedicated to promoting wellness, resiliency, and recovery through peer-led support groups, structured educational programs, and accessible online resources. The organization helps individuals and families better understand mental illnesses as biologically based medical conditions, removing stigma and fostering compassion and awareness.
At the heart of NAMI Anchorage’s mission is the belief that no one should face mental illness alone. Their family support groups, led by trained peers who have lived experience supporting a loved one with a mental health condition, offer a safe and empathetic environment where participants can share challenges, celebrate victories, and learn from one another. Through advocacy efforts, community outreach, and education, NAMI Anchorage empowers both individuals affected by mental health disorders and the broader community to better support mental wellness and recovery. The services provided are not clinical in nature but serve as an invaluable complement to traditional mental health treatment options.
