The Norfolk Regional Center, located at 1700 North Victory Road in Norfolk, Nebraska, is one of two state-operated psychiatric hospitals overseen by the Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services. Established in 1885, this historic facility provides specialized inpatient psychiatric treatment to adult men who are committed through the Mental Health Board. The center has evolved over the decades to become a vital resource for individuals requiring long-term psychiatric support, forensic services, and highly specialized rehabilitation programs.
A major focus of the Norfolk Regional Center is the Nebraska Sex Offender Treatment Program, which was introduced in 2006. This program is designed to improve public safety by reducing the risk of re-offense while supporting participants in developing healthier coping skills and improved quality of life. In addition, the center launched the Behavioral Health Medical Support Program in 2018, which offers integrated medical and nursing care for men with complex psychiatric, cognitive, and aging-related conditions. By combining psychiatric services with medical support, NRC ensures patients receive holistic, individualized care tailored to both behavioral health and physical wellness needs.
Through its comprehensive inpatient and forensic services, Norfolk Regional Center plays a critical role in Nebraska’s mental health system. With a commitment to recovery-oriented care, the facility helps individuals rebuild their lives while enhancing safety and wellbeing across the community.
