I am extremely disturbed by our recent experience with Hometown Medical. This morning I went to fill my 85-year-old mother’s prescription and was informed by the pharmacist that she had been prescribed Mounjaro for blood sugar control. My mother weighs only 95 pounds. The pharmacist immediately expressed concern because this medication is widely known to cause significant weight loss — often 15–20% of body weight. For an 85-year-old woman who already weighs 95 pounds, that kind of weight loss could be dangerous and medically irresponsible. After researching the medication myself, I found the same information regarding substantial weight reduction and caution in frail or elderly patients. It is alarming that this prescription was written without what appears to be appropriate consideration of her age, size, and overall risk. Thankfully, the pharmacist acted as the final safety check. Without that intervention, we could have been dealing with serious consequences. We will never return to Hometown Medical. If you have elderly parents or vulnerable loved ones, I strongly encourage you to review every medication being prescribed and ask questions. Do not assume that everything written is automatically appropriate.
