Facility Overview

MultiCare Behavioral Health – Adolescent Behavioral Health at Tacoma General is the first and only inpatient program in Pierce County dedicated exclusively to teens experiencing a mental health crisis. Located at 315 Martin Luther King Jr Way in Tacoma, Washington, this 27-bed unit provides a safe, supportive environment for adolescents ages 13 to 17 who are struggling with severe mental health concerns. The modern facility features private rooms, open social areas, and advanced safety measures to ensure patient comfort and security during treatment.

The program emphasizes stabilization and recovery through evidence-based, trauma-informed care. Teens admitted voluntarily, involuntarily, or through family-initiated treatment receive individualized treatment plans that may include psychiatric evaluation, medication management, group therapy, and family support. Specialized therapies such as dialectical behavior therapy, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, recreation therapy, and creative arts therapy are available to help adolescents build coping skills and prepare for long-term healing. Discharge planning connects patients and families to outpatient therapy and community resources, ensuring continuity of care beyond hospitalization.

With a multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and peer specialists, the unit is committed to providing comprehensive, compassionate care. Families are active partners in the recovery process, receiving psychoeducation, resources, and tools to support their teen’s mental health journey. MultiCare’s Adolescent Behavioral Health unit at Tacoma General plays a vital role in addressing the growing need for youth mental health services in Washington State.
