IAFF Center of Excellence

The IAFF Center of Excellence in Upper Marlboro, Maryland is a nationally recognized residential treatment facility dedicated to serving professional firefighters and emergency medical workers experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder, substance use disorders, and complex behavioral health challenges. Designed specifically for first responders, the center provides a confidential and culturally informed environment where individuals can heal alongside peers who understand the unique demands and trauma associated with emergency service careers.

Through a comprehensive continuum of care, the IAFF Center of Excellence offers medical detox, residential treatment, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient services supported by evidence-based therapies and psychiatric care. Programs integrate trauma-informed approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, along with peer support and relapse prevention services, to promote long-term recovery, resilience, and successful reintegration into work and family life.
