Aroostook Mental Health Center’s Children’s Crisis Stabilization Units (CCSU) in Fort Fairfield and Calais, Maine, provide short-term, community-based residential treatment for youth ages 4–17 experiencing acute emotional or behavioral crises. These voluntary units offer round-the-clock support in a safe, ADA-compliant environment designed to stabilize children and adolescents facing severe stress, trauma, depression, suicidal thoughts, or other mental health emergencies.
Through a trauma-informed, family-centered approach, CCSU staff deliver individual, group, and family counseling, focusing on restoring stability and helping clients return to a pre-crisis level of functioning. The program includes 24/7 crisis intervention, therapeutic support, and coordination with existing service providers to ensure continuity of care.
