Facility Overview

The Illinois Division of Mental Health (DMH) serves as the State Mental Health Authority, ensuring that children, adolescents, and adults across Illinois have access to publicly funded mental health services. DMH supports individuals diagnosed with mental illness or emotional disturbances who demonstrate impaired functioning, as determined through professional mental health assessments.

DMH delivers services across five geographically organized regions through a robust network of 162 community mental health centers, 27 community hospitals with psychiatric units, and seven state-operated hospitals, which include both civil and forensic care beds. In addition, DMH provides specialized, court-mandated treatment for sexually violent persons through its dedicated Treatment and Detention Facility.

Committed to improving mental health access and outcomes, the Illinois DMH plays a vital role in supporting individuals and communities statewide through comprehensive, evidence-based mental health programs and coordinated service delivery.
